Heart Failure is a condition when heart's pumping power decreases below 25%. There are some reasons for this - The normal function of Heart is 55 - 60%. If a heart attack occurred the function decreases based upon the severity of heart attack. In some cases, heart muscles start to degenerate this condition called as “CARDIOMYOPATHY” There may be some other reasons also.

EECP, an acronym for Enhanced External Counter Pulsation, is a completely safe, non-pharmaceutical, non-invasive outpatient treatment for relieving and eliminating angina. EECP Treatment / EECP Therapy is painless, carries no risk and has no adverse side effects.
EECP treatment approved by the US FDA for patients with chest pain, coronary artery disease, heart failure and congestive heart failure. EECP therapy works by creating collateral circulation around blocked arteries, i.e. it essentially works to create a "NATURAL BYPASS" around the arteries. EECP helps to increase blood supply throughout the body, with benefits that tend to remain for years together.
Introduced in 1960, purpose of EECP treatment is to increase the amount of blood going back to the heart, providing more blood for the heart to work with. US FDA and NHS-UK cleared EECP Treatment for patients suffering from Heart disease.
Working of EECP- In an EECP session, the patient lies on a padded table. Three large inflatable cuffs - similar to blood pressure cuffs - are strapped around the calves, lower-thighs and upper-thighs. The patient's heart is monitored by an electrocardiograph display in the EECP machine, which through the computer, regulates the inflation and deflation of the cuffs. During the part of the cardiac cycle when the heart is as rest (diastole), the cuffs are rapidly inflated in sequential order beginning with the cuffs on the calves and working upward. Just before systole (heart contraction), the cuffs are simultaneously deflated. Collateral circulation is actually a natural phenomenon that can be developed with cardiovascular exercise also. However, the natural development of collateral circulation is a gradual process that takes years. EECP treatment triggers and accelerates this collateral circulation and makes it permanent. My father had a bypass 10yrs back.
He developed pulmonary hypertension after operation.His EF after operation fell from 40-45 to 30 - 35.
As on today his EF is 15 - 20.His age is 79.
