The fact that people do not make spite plays I think is my favourite thing about cEDH. No people complaining because they were targeted 5 times in a row. No people complaining in general, usually. So relaxing!
Thing is you can have that in normal EDH. People choose to not have it. I once lost a game (first game of EDH mind you) because I like a big fat Timmy over ran a single player for like 50 damage with a mass amount of tokens I made with avenger of Zendikar. He just laughed his ass off and said to date ot probably was the biggest over kill he died to (he was at like 20 life) next round we just moved on and even ended up teaming up against someone who was going of. People choose to be salty in EDH, you don't need to be at any power level.
Laron Dormeuse The point being made, is that spite plays are discouraged due to how the format works. If something wins you the game, it is expected that your opponents try and stop it.
I'm sorry, but you've removed my Muldrotha 1 too many times this play session, which is to say that you'ev done it at all. The penalty is that I strip mine your lands for the next month of play and dedicate each of my removal spells to your stuff. Nothing personal, I just don't like people messing with my commander.
I would strongly recommend having both a CEDH and a casual commander deck so that you can play longer commander games throughout a play session with friends and then if you have like 30 minutes left at the end, you and your friends can quickly shuffle up and play a few quick CEDH games. Also works great at an LGS where you can effectively play with any group you want since you will have a deck for any type of play group.
Just watching this video made me really change how I play regular edh, I stopped getting mad and I started really looking at how cool other people’s deck are doing and just enjoying what I’m doing.
My LGS has, over time, gotten enough cEDH players to start a pod or two on Commander nights. Some players flip flop between pods depending on what power level they feel like. The store even sweetens the pods with a little extra prize support. That's encouraged other players to begin building varied power-level decks, and a few former non-cEDH players have began their own competitive decks. It's great, in my opinion, that cEDH exists because it helps prevent stagnation, along with the other pros talked about in the vid. I'll probably never play, because it's not in my nature to be so competitive, but cEDH needs to exist for those people - especially so I'm not playing against a top tier deck in a casual pod because the player loves the strategy but doesn't have the proper outlet for that much power.
I love your videos. You guys are the reason I got turned onto CEDH. I play where I can't us proxies in our group. My son and I build CEDH decks to the best of our abilities. We love it.
I've been playing mtg for over 18 years now and started to dive into cedh since a couple of months. I noticed my mentality and understanding of the game is much like cedh and that got me into it. After playing several games I started liking it even more. No salt, no spite plays and good treath assessment? Yes please ! Not to forget that the power lvl always matches.
This is an awesome video. I am so glad he clarified this stuff! I am a casual player, but PWP inspired me to try cEDH occasionally. I play them with little sister and she is RUTHLESS lol.
This is awesome, I'm glad you guys are opening up to the magic community in an effort to grow the CEDH community. I would like to see the different play styles talked about, as well as different combos.
I really liked the 2 deck techs you already did, had to watch the Godo one over and over again, then searched up a buttload of Godo gameplay, and that really got me into cedh, started researching every deck i saw, all the interactions, made me question magic a lot of the times, but it was really exciting to do and experience, wish many people get to feel the same about this! Those two deck techs got me really started and now i am searching for ways to afford a godo deck that im building in my free time
Great video as always! As one of the people brewing cEDH Muldrotha on the Discord channel part of me felt personally attacked with her image as background to talk about bad things on cEDH hahahaha
I'm really glad that I found the CEDH community, I was one of those players who broke the social contract without meaning to just because I wanted to play with my decks at the best they could be.
I put desolation in a Muldrotha deck and the Jund player who forced everyone to agree to let each other have free mulligans who only put 17 lands in his deck threw a violent tantrum which involved trying to and failing to successfully flip the table. Good times.
keep these coming guys! I personally don't play the cedh format but I love watching it and learning more about it - and who knows, as the stigma gets corrected more and more tables like mine might be willing to fall in love with this format, just like you :)
This is going to be a great series! Just recently ventured into the format and I've so much to learn. While the gameplay is so focused on the cards rather than grievances, it is such a refreshing experience.
I love the idea of this series! I've been trying to fine-tune my Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain to cEDH just to see how far I can take it and it has gotten to the point where I can't take it out with my pod anymore. I want to keep learning and prepping for the world to re-open to the point where I can test it at a cEDH table, and this series is going to help a lot, I think!
Speaking from experience, the 2 pods of cEDH at my own LGS are more than happy to let people new to the competitive format play and even help them learn and get into it. I played pretty casually myself until they invited me to play with them. It was a really good learning experience because I think it helped me be just a better commander player over all.
This video is absolutely amazing, as someone whose been trying to get into Cedh for a while and didnt know where to start. It gives me peace of mind knowing proxying is ok, now I just need to find a playgroup lol
I've found, my biggest saltiest moment in anything EDH, is when I have dud cards in my hand that are just stuck there. cEDH has been the answer to this, either through fast mana or not making the super big cards viable. My group is slowly heading towards cEDH as a whole, as we optomize, and it's refreshing to be able to play the cards we want.
As a EDH player, I developed into cEDH unknowingly over the years thanks to Pro #3. Also that Myth#2 hits home for me every time . They became toxic and spiteful because they can’t combo off turn 4 with no answers after I locked them down before they go off 😂. I have no meta now so I learned to carry a cEDH deck on me and a regular edh.
CEDH being complicated I would say is one of the pros of CEDH. I love the complicated stax and ordering decisions that arise from the format. Playing CEDH has taught me a lot more about rules layering and priority and the stack.
You know, I played my first game of CEDH the other day. No, my deck was not $1000 dollars or anything, nor do I consider my deck to have been at CEDH level, but I picked my deck that I believe had the fastest win condition, that still has a decent amount of interaction and removal, Nethroi. There were two actual CEDH decks and one other high-level EDH deck at the table. But, I have to say, it was really fun! If anything, it was that, at the core, nobody was getting butthurt about anything. On the first few swings, everybody was attacking the K'rik deck, because life is more of a resource than anything in CEDH. The K'rik player even advised us two "new" CEDH players that that's what you should be doing, and he totally got it. I even threatened the win at one point, but it got countered, but hey, I was happy that I was one step from winning at a CEDH table. And the games also don't take forever! We played through 3 or 4 games while the table next to us only did 1. It was great fun.
Also, on that note about CEDH decks being built to play against other CEDH decks, there are a few good examples of this. Cards like Mystic Remore and Carpet of Flowers rarely see play in casual commander, because the decks you will be playing against just won't consistently get you value from these cards. Whereas practically every CEDH deck will play these, because in those playgroups you will for sure see a lot of islands/shock lands and noncreature spells in the early turns. Other cards like Gitaxian probe are also super handy because knowing whether your opponent has a counter spell is super handy.
Got to play my first cedh game with friends a couple nights ago. Loved it! The interactions between each other and on the stax was exciting and it felt great know there wasn’t any salty plays since every play should have an actual reason behind it and not out of spite.
I'm so lucky that my LGS gradually ranked up to cedh level. We'd have cedh tables almost every night and we'd be packed with high level edh on the weekends!
My first edh experience involved me sitting down with a freshly sleeved precon against a cedh guy playing narset turns, this involved me sitting at the table with 3 lands while this dude played solitaire with himself for 20 minutes. That soured me on edh in general for years
Really liked this new series, especially when all I do in cEDH is to just copy the primer decks and just play how I usually do in a casual deck (basically not playing a cEDH playstyle). Probably will take some pointers to be a better player overall
I am looking foreward to this series! My playgroup is starting to slowly creep up on the powerscale of decks and we are currently in a spot that starts scratching the cedh format. Our commanders and decks are not fully optimized as we choose to play cards we own but outside of that the win options, interactions and general gameplay start to become more and more of a cedh group limited by budget. However we all have pet cards and while our top decks slowly transform into cedh decks we all love our casual commanders that we play in low powered rounds of edh.
This was really helpful. I’m super new to the idea of cedh and have dabbled in a niv mizzet curiosity and Gitrog dredge deck. The latter which is by far more powerful. However cards like bayou and bazaar of Baghdad are far out of my reach it’s nice to hear most welcome proxies. I will eventually splash out on these cards. Like I said this is very helpful I watch your gameplay and it’s what got me into the idea of cedh.
Neat video. I would also say there is a myth that all cedh games end but turn 3. While their are games that do. I play a draw go control deck, and there are stax decks that make the games last just as long as some normal edh games. There is plenty of interaction to be had in cedh.
Great video! The downside of price was always something that deterred me from trying cEDH but if most communities accept proxies than that really opens it up.
I love this idea because I want to dip my toes into CEDH, but I don’t have the playgroup (or wallet) for it. I hope to see more very soon guys! Hope you’re all staying healthy and happy
You can play online! And I do not mean only on mtgo/cockatrice/xmage but also using your webcam! there's the PlayEDH discord for that, and it's just one example!
If you want to get into cEDH, I would highly advise just printing proxies. Yeah it's like a few dollars in ink, but it'll give you a nice feel for the format. Most people are pretty chill with proxies in cEDH groups (there are a few exceptions to that of course)
Really excited for the rest of the series and since you guys are gonna talk about decks later on, maybe you can recommend cedh decks to start with for newcomers or do a budget deck tech
Kinda wish a player in our playgroup got the memo about myth number 2. He basically brought cedh to our casual games and was not particularly nice about it.
@@RandomGuyCDN I really wish that was the case, but he is well liked during game play since he sometimes just plays to dumpster me in particular, grated i sometimes come off as annoying, so I am unsure as to what to do exactly
That's when you run him over with a car. Nah, of course I'm just kidding :) You just have to talk to your playgroup and find a cheaper solution, bumpers are expensive.
I started playing edh with Animar, and I've slowly been upgrading it. It is at a point where I've stopped playing regular edh with it because it stomps and I think it is just about ready for cedh. It is semi-budget (no reserved list) and I've been looking to try it at a cedh table. Just a bit nervous because it probably isn't up to snuff and I'm kinda new to magic but I'm really looking forward to getting into cedh!
Love the video! A comment about midroll ads: when UA-cam puts them in automatically it puts in far too many and disrupts the video. I found the ads disruptive since they happened every 2 or 3 minutes
something I really think cEDH does great is the power level balance. it can be a mess when decks don't have proper balance, leading to more boring games, something that can happen a lot in casual tables
I'd really like to see how different tactics are explored and possible budget alternatives. For example, I just bought a force of Will planning to get into food chain First Sliver, but I can't afford the land base. Seeing how to frame your budget decisions based on a meta or idea of it would be really neat.
You know when my playgroup tries CEDH for the first time, the table looked like 4 people trying to murder each other through cards but everyone bursted into laughter in the end knowing how dumb it was to get spiteful over a game of cards
I wish I could afford CEDH decks! I enjoy EDH a lot, but I think I'd enjoy CEDH even more. Battlecruiser magic is fun every so often, but the games often take a very long time. Also, a question; Have you guys considered playing Planechase CEDH again?
Wait a minute....stax and MLD arent normally accepted cards in casual EDH? I guess my playgroup is less casual than I thought. Anyways, this is a cool idea for a video series and I'm happy to see more
People dont like sitting down and having their gameplay disrupted. Since in edh there can be a big diference in powerlevel. Some people facing tuned and disruptive decks may not like it
The problem with MLD in casual is that many players use them the worst way possible: they blow up all lands without an advantageous board or a follow-up plan to secure victory in the next few turns (or their plan is so fragile that a single well-timed removal spell can ruin it), devolving the game into a very boring draw-go cycle until someone topdecks enough lands to play again.
@@DarkEinherjar Luckily our MLD player isnt that bad at playing MLD, usually only nuking the lands when he has a follow up of Windgrace being on board, his lands having indestructible, or an effect like Mending of Dominaria to return his lands so he can usually win in a turn or 2 assuming we dont have a reaaaaaally well timed piece of removal to stop him
God how I wish all of that were true. my first few experiences with cEDH online were I wasn't allowed to play flash in certain leagues while it was still legal, and then, my Kess deck had "too many proxies" which was 20 BTW (mainly fast mana rocks and duals and other super expensive staples), and now that I spent 1300 dollars on a Najeela deck that I thoroughly enjoy I have little issues, but sometimes I get people who won't allow me to play, or they'll "forget" to include me in some tournaments. I have had a very frustrating time getting my footing in cEDH, but when I play I have so much fun. I just really wish some of these sub communities were as welcoming as people make them out to be. But I still love playing at the higher level and now I avoid those toxic sub communities.
Honestly "play to win" sounds nice and pretty self-explanitory. only problem i have is mass land-destruction, maybe it's a bit weird that that is the thing that prevents me from endorsing it, but...yeah
Honestly the last con shouldn't really be a big issue. If you have a new player sitting at your table the first thing I'd do is pull out my win cons and give them a run through of my decks play pattern. Normally my friends do the same. Sure they probably wont play optimally game 1 or game 2, but games are short and its absolutely possible to minimize that learning curve, by letting them know about the decks at the table (which everyone else will likely already have an understanding of). This might be specific to my pod, but we also like to talk about major decision points and the muligan choices we made at the start of the game, once we finish a game.
I just recently started playing Cedh, I have been looking and trying out budget decks online before I buy in paper I need to find a friend group that will be able to play with me lol
Yes I am a cedh player, I love the thrill of playing with powerful decks lol however I also love playing casual deck XD when my pod ask if we have to play try hard I always so no hahah
Tell that to the taxes player who was a direct counter to my cEDH deck at a table I was playing at. He was salty about me constantly targeting him, but he was the only one putting a stranglehold on my wincons, so what am I to do if I want to win? :(
Much as I enjoy the EDH format, it honestly feels like, more often than not, people's pride and ego get in the way of the fun of the game. In my experience, many people in the casual EDH crowd seem to be more concerned with "look how cool the thing my deck does is" than actually playing the game. Between this, the arbitrary stipulations casual EDH's power levels, and games taking upwards of two hours because of the constant negotiating, complaining, back and forth spite plays, and multitudes of board wipes, I've come to find cEDH to be a much more enjoyable, fast paced, and all around healthier interpretation of the format. Also, admittedly, infinites and loops just make my smooth brain go c:
The fact that people do not make spite plays I think is my favourite thing about cEDH. No people complaining because they were targeted 5 times in a row. No people complaining in general, usually. So relaxing!
Honestly a completely different game when everyone is paying attention to what the right play is and don't get upset when its made.
Spite pyroblasting a thrasios in cedh is a fast way to lose to thassa’s oracle
The will forever be the cedh infomercial I use. Great information!
Yes! Thank you!
This video described why I enjoy playing with cede players more than normal edh players
This is excellent! Well done
Can't wait for the rest finally gonna help my friends get into cedh with me
I hope youre all rich
@@maxmaier7023 Well, we do allow proxies, so don't need to spend much money at all.

What a great series to start! I’ve been playing cEdh for a while now and I’m so glad to see this so well done!
Glad you enjoy it!
I pulled a force of will in my double masters box...im ready for cedh now.
Aye i pulled a mana crypt today!!! I don't have the most knowledge of edh but I'll get there slowly.

You can play online! And I do not mean only on mtgo/cockatrice/xmage but also using your webcam! there's the PlayEDH discord for that, and it's just one example!
Started playing online and I can't recommend it more
Proxy. Also you can play on mtgo for like 350 a deck if you’re not playing fon and you can find a play group to play witg
How to play cedh, tip 1: DO NOT FEED THE FISH
Fish hungry omnomnomnom
Tip 2: pay the 1
@@jameslatty3168 or the 2 or the 4 (if you can, an early Remora usually just needs to be played around)
@@doylerudolph7965 better yet, wait it out and dont feed the fish. Personally I treat it as a soft stax card and wait it out if it comes down early.
Good job guys!
majestic.
"Cons of cEDH" *shows Muldrotha*
Wow rude...
My first commander . . . first mythic I owned . . . used as a backdrop . . . for the cons of cEDH :(
I’m gonna prove them wrong 😤
Kinda wish a player in our playgroup got the memo about myth number 2. He basically brought cedh to our casual games and was not particularly nice about it.
Thats when you talk to that player. If he doesnt want to play to the groups power level then remove them or dont invite them back.
Great Vid boys!
More to come!
Love the video! A comment about midroll ads: when UA-cam puts them in automatically it puts in far too many and disrupts the video. I found the ads disruptive since they happened every 2 or 3 minutes
Thanks for the tip! We will adjust!
Could you recommend this to Mitch from the Commander's Quarters?
something I really think cEDH does great is the power level balance. it can be a mess when decks don't have proper balance, leading to more boring games, something that can happen a lot in casual tables
I'd really like to see how different tactics are explored and possible budget alternatives. For example, I just bought a force of Will planning to get into food chain First Sliver, but I can't afford the land base.
Seeing how to frame your budget decisions based on a meta or idea of it would be really neat.
There is an amazing post dealing with that on r/CompetitiveEDH called Budget Deck Series: The cEDH Core
Some one give the playing with power crew a wizards Sponsorship. 👌🏽 Free braids from the ban list.
I'm looking to build my first cEDH deck, I have a commander in mind just not sure where to look for good/optimal card suggestions.
We will be releasing a video on that this week! Stay tuned!
You know when my playgroup tries CEDH for the first time, the table looked like 4 people trying to murder each other through cards but everyone bursted into laughter in the end knowing how dumb it was to get spiteful over a game of cards
Nice new series!
I like to think that the "c" in CEDH also stands for 'combo'
If there were an easier and more effective way to eliminate 3 other players with 40 life, it would surely be used...
I wish I could afford CEDH decks! I enjoy EDH a lot, but I think I'd enjoy CEDH even more. Battlecruiser magic is fun every so often, but the games often take a very long time.
Also, a question; Have you guys considered playing Planechase CEDH again?
We haven’t thought about it, but we might give it another go.
Try mono green cedh then, it's a lot more affordable.
Wait a minute....stax and MLD arent normally accepted cards in casual EDH?
I guess my playgroup is less casual than I thought. Anyways, this is a cool idea for a video series and I'm happy to see more
no, some people don't like it when others play the cards they wanna play :(
People dont like sitting down and having their gameplay disrupted.
Cedh is ♥️
Honestly the last con shouldn't really be a big issue.
I imagine it's like every competitive mode. Everyone netdecks.
well yea, the absolute strongest edh decks is an objective thing and changes very little so youre not going to find much variance like you do in edh
Big Fan
I just recently started playing Cedh, I have been looking and trying out budget decks online before I buy in paper
I need to find a friend group that will be able to play with me lol
I just realized that I am a CEDH player. I did not know that until now...
New Employee cEDH Training Video. I wish you guys would redo this and enact the commentary of the video.
