You should be able to achieve that tuning with a bass if it's a longer scale (34" or longer) which most are. Perhaps your strings are too thin? If so, you'll have to loosen them too much to get that tuning but they smack around and sound pretty dead because there's not enough tension. Heavier gauge strings will definitely help. There are companies like String Joy that have a calculator so you can input the info like the scale of your bass and the tuning you want, and it'll give you the gauge you need to get proper tension. Keep in mind that you'll most likely need to file the nut a bit to fit the string if it's too fat and also adjust your bass (set up) to get the correct intonation and action. It's definitely doable 👍🏼
I had a friend rip a string trying to do a Drop tuning because he thought the 2 strings were supposed to sound the EXACT same, he didn't realise one is supposed to be a lower version of the other's frequency so he kept tightening until it gave. Don't do this, you could lose more than a string: a tuner, 2 strings, an eye or a lot of blood.

It is bizarre, it bothers me so much and people don't think tuning matters to the most extreme level and they either don't care or don't have the ear
