As a Canadian this gives me chill, it reminds me of that video of Tom brokove explaining canada to Americans. In all the worlds history no partnership between nations has ever been more peaceful, productive, and loyal as that of Canada and the USofA. As the peace arch in Spokane WA says. May these gates never close.

I used to love being an American. But lately ive been feeling like this isnt America anymore. But ol Johnny Cash gives me hope that we can return this country to its former glory and be proud to be an American once again.
With the exception of Lee being included, this entire video is incredible and Johnny does a incredible job!
The reason why Lee was included was because at the time Johnny Cash wrote this and today alot of people considered the civil war a war between brothers, family. Americans against Americans. Lee and many other confederates still considered themselves Americans even after leaving the Union. A lot of diaries and letters written by confederates which are sources available on line, mention how much it hurt them to fight against their own nation but felt that it was necessary to preserve their way of living. To the rich it was to preserve their slaves for their massive plantations but for the average southern soldier it was the rural life, away from big businesses and industrialization and the massive taxes the north put on southern good that those poor southern farmers produced.
Robert E Lee was a great American man. He may have been on the wrong side, but you were not in his shoes.
