Sad Satan is one of the most infamous games to ever appear online. Its existence is even arguable - as the only confirmed "real" version of the game is that shown in the original video series by Obscure Horror Corner - with all of the others being clones of that. After gaining a reputation for horrific and potentially illegal content, Sad Satan is not a game that should ever have come close to a reputable storefront such as Steam. Alas, here it is. Let's take a look.
Not to be confused with the episode of Smiling Friends. That's a different sad Satan.

@@RealCrisFormage I'm pretty sure it did. It sounded like a creepypasta but it's real. What's possibly phony are the claims that it had CP in it. But the actual original game that you can't get legally exists. As to why it's illegal, I don't know.

I'm convinced Sad Satan is just a shitpost game. The historical references and "spooky" images are just nonsense, both in and out of context. The only reason this thing got anywhere was the developer having cheezy pizzy.
I dunno, the original, or at least what I think is the original, seemed to have a pretty creepy atmosphere outside of the illegal stuff, even if it wasn't that technically or artistically amazing.
That + UA-camrs pushing the "LOOK AT THIS GAME I FOUND ON THE DEEP WEB" narrative, easy creepypasta nostalgia bait.

I think that, with enough tact and respect, you could possibly turn the concept of Sad Satan into an interesting, well-done horror game that is disturbing whilst still being respectful about the horrific things in the source material. I don't think it'll ever be done, but I don't think it's impossible.

Weirdly enough? I could see Sad Satan being a *killer* catalyst for some kind of thriller mystery game.
The game starts with you playing Sad Satan, as close as possible to the original OHC version(Albeit fictionalized to only show fake horrible people instead of real horrible people), only for the camera to zoom out and reveal you are a private eye trying to track down the origin of the game and its' creator due to alleged disappearances related to those who've played or a potential shared link between all of the shown figures. The rest of the game is a mixture of sleuthing in the real world and finding & playing increasingly complex builds of Sad Satan to find clues on where to go next.

Possible, but like, it would need far more than what most of the games can offer, they're ultimately very simplistic and shallow experiences, because well, it's usually just one or a few people making them out of their basement.
I hope they don't have all of the CSAM that was in the original game.

Theres a sort of sad death of romanticism in the fact that theres this "too dark for the mainstream secret deep web horror game with no definitive version" that feels like it should set you up for a truly horrific experience, perhaps even literally curse you- and in reality its always just a shit walking simulator with a 13 year old's grasp of shock aesthetics. Perhaps the true horror is in the deep eldritch truth of expectation vs reality

Well I was curious how this would turn out and after watching the video I honestly don't know what confuses me more about this game. The fact that anyone thought doing a reimagining of an infamous horror game known for it's disturbing and illegal content then releasing it on steam was a good idea. How they decided not to use any graphical effects despite that being one of the most recognisable aspects of Sad Satan. Or how the dev essentially made Slender: The Eight Pages without Slenderman.
Somehow I don't feel like the satans within are being faced, if anything I feel like they're facing away from this game.
That moment when even the menu buttons are louder than the horror in the game.
The music gave me so many creepypasta flashbacks.
Mutahar, MrCreepyPasta, and so many others.
Especially Muta in this case, as he did an entire video covering Sad Satan back when it was first found

I remember back in 2015 they said this game was horrible, that it was made by the deepweb users and it had highly illegal content. Same old, same old. But remembering that and seeing it on steam now is very ironic to me.

I'm pretty sure the wall with Cyrillic text on it, and the doors room, is a reference to the Georgia Guidestones. The layout is very similar. The Georgia Guidestones were a stonehenge-like monument created by an anonymous individual. It consisted of several large stone tablets with the same message written over and over in different languages. The message is pretty benign, but there's lines calling for humanity to reduce the world population to 500,000 and to "leave room for nature". This, along with the fact that the creator was anonymous, worked up conspiracy-minded people into a frenzy. People claimed online that the stones were part of some kind of Satanic New World Order plot, and they became so hated, that a vigilante ended up making a bomb and blowing up the stones.
The Cyrillic writing on the doors room isn't the Guidestone message, but I assume that's only because the game designer didn't have a clear photo of the text on the Cyrillic tablet, so they got some other random engraved Cyrillic text.

Sad satan is one of the best surviving examples of the power of zero-budget marketing, the amount of videos and copycats that resulted from what's effectively a terribly designed walking simulator disaster of an asset-flip game is bonkers. All thanks to the youtube community that blew this out of proportion.

My first thoughts before watching this was why are people still trying to make sad satan games? I get the horror part and all yeah spooky dank web blah blah.
