Peter was actually a pretty good drummer all things considered, at least before the drugs and alcohol overwhelmed him. You just gotta remember, Peter’s background was from a different kind of music, a swing/big band style, not rock at all. So I would say Eric was probably a better fit for the band, his hero was John Bonham , and his musical mindset was more in line with what Kiss was trying to do. In fact, Eric was into Mettalica at the time, so if anything Paul and Gene had to sort of reign him in. Imagine being hyped about joining what had always Classically been a hard rock band and then recording music from the elder WTF?? Anyway, Peter did a great job on the first 6 albums, and particularly to the first 4. His playing on Alive was about the only thing they kept, just about everything else had to be red done. So there was nothing wrong with Peter’s playing, he just wasn’t really a rock drummer

Imagine being hyped about joining what had always
Classically been a hard rock band and then recording music from the elder WTF??
Anyway, Peter did a great job on the first 6 albums, and particularly to the first 4. His playing on Alive was about the only thing they kept, just about everything else had to be red done. So there was nothing wrong with Peter’s playing, he just wasn’t really a rock drummer
3:52. “Heaven forbid we put him in a character people already knew. That seemed too obvious to us and maybe sacrilegious.”
Ahem….🤔
1:10 1:17 Bingo!
So, what Paul is saying..........We already had a character in mind, but sometimes it is what is and you have to...."
Eric Carr definitely learned on the fly too, Paul! I still can't believe that he wanted to have a beautiful car like that painted camouflage, though. In a way of speaking, Paul was right to say no to that idea. In another way, though, Paul shoulda let Eric go through with the paint job, being that Kiss had "given" Eric the car. It definitely would have looked dumb, but, as people are so find of saying:"Live and learn"! I still can't get over just how much Eric, in his younger teenage days, looked almost exactly like Christopher Knight, the dude who played Peter Brady on the show "The Brady Bunch"😀! Rest In Peace, Eric Carr, A. K. A. Paul Caravello.
It's funny that a guy who wears makeup, tights, and high heels would tell someone not to paint there car because it would look stupid.
Eric's car
"Can i have it painted camo" AHHAHAHHAHaA
Not like Anton Fig was super popular at that time. He's a great drummer.
Paul sounds really proud of his ability to act properly in a restaurant.
Peter was great in the early days, still plays great jazz but Eric was different - very Bonham, power drummer
Although Bonzo was inspired by Gene Krupa as well.
Eric Carr is the best drummer Kiss ever had!
I totally agree with you!
