The interesting story of our educational system | Adhitya Iyer | TEDxCRCE

- A story surrounding more than a million students in India built around a booming IT industry, a machine like education system, a race to a seat amongst the top engineering colleges and student suicides in our system. The Indian education system in all its complexity has turned out to be one of the most fascinating educational stories in the world. Watch Adhitya Iyer in his talk share his travel around the country discovering the truth behind the common engineer in India.
Adhitya Iyer completed his engineering degree from Mumbai University, where he studied in an institute interestingly named after Sardar Patel and was inaugurated by Nehru. He was listed as one of India's Top 30 student entrepreneurs by the NEN. He later spent 2 years in Bangalore selling chai, before he set out to write a non-fiction on the complex life of India's engineers is Kickstarter funded and is India's highest crowdfunded book. He thinks the society needs to be re-imagined and that humans can't be spending more than half their life doing something they seldom enjoy.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
Meanwhile Byju's : Are you a tenth class student, preparing for the JEE or NEET?
And they don't even teach anything worth it
@@jothishprabu8 Yes, they just want to earn money 😠
The irony is that i got their ad on this video
dropper batch also available
they called me two times to enroll in their course (one of their counsillors talked to me) and they were boasting about themselves that they teach in an interactive way with animated videos usully what other learning channels can't...
but believe me there are a hundreds of youtube channels that can teach you by animation which is a hundred times better if you want to learn something new not for JEE or NEET but for your knowledge because there is a convention you know that in order to join IIT or whatever you have to join a good/better/best coaching class...but i can't afford it.
I am very very happy from what i have been learning from youtube everyday..👍
In india u always became an engineer first and then decide what to do with your life
Kids are constantly reminded about engineering and getting into prestigious institutes that when the time comes to choose their career they are blind to all other options which with risk can still change your life for better or for worse. If people looked at the rich and famous Indians who achieved what they wanted before they did the people who play safe would have mocked them and labelled them as fools who will end up broke. How will we know if we never try? We will spend our whole life thinking about what could have been of we take the safe path.

There are just soo many engineers in our country..
4 year of this video and still everything seems exactly how he depicted.
And that is irony of our school system
I am also a student. To be honest, I think engineering (and now even medical) are treated more as a sign of prestige rather than their actual essence and effect. Many parents in India today have been accustomed to this mindset. When a child complains about the pressure, he/she is mostly told to face it boldly and go ahead, because there is no other way to succeed. The most ironic matter is that we are taught with a specific goal to crack an exam, whether we imbibe the knowledge or just memorize and spit it out on paper. And then in the future, we are asked if we have learned anything from our journey. Well, it's less of a journey and more of a regime! This comment is getting too long, but it can hardly encompass the entirety of the bad effects our education system has.(if it can even be called an education system now)
Completely agree with your opinion the ironic thing is we are told not to play video games, not to watch yt, the brainnwipp be damaged if exposed to technology and then we are told to become software engineers.
True. Engineering is considered as a 'level' in India. Most of those, I daresay are doing it under family pressure. Those many boys and girls could easily master other subjects, but now their lives are ruined. I am thankful to The Creator because my parents are supportive, and I Pray that your family and friends will be too :)

We told our parents that we don't want to take science ,they even agree with our decision of not taking science. But after we got our results we both score quite well. I have to ask, very sincerely, when you quit a job to take time off to explore yourself, for that time period do you rely on money you saved up from your job...or?......is it not scary? Not having a job...betting everything on the chance you will find what it right for you. Im not trying to put your decision down, i just want to know how you go about thinking about this. Do you rely on family for support for this time period?

This fear stops people from doing something great... following their dreams... creating something big. But if u think that and if u stop due to the fear... what will u do then... @Sarthak Ghadi Yes it is. Eren Jeager, the free.
My Guru used to tell me: *"We need an Engineer (father) and a Doctor (mother) in all Homes."*
What he meant by a Doctor is: _Someone who has the knowledge to heal the Family from Problems related to health;_
And an Engineer is: _Someone who has the knowledge to fulfill the commercial needs of the Family._
```Both skills are crucial to run a Family.```
Do you mean financial needs?
Ananya Singhal The people of country India have to follow the constitution of India . If you know it , then it says the country should be run by three group of people. Legislative, executive, and judiciary. Even if we improve ourselves, we don't have enough funds to encourage innovators. ISRO doesn't got enough funds, now it's fine. But the executives(politicians) needs to understand all these and these system and everything will change only when we have real intellectual people in Prime Minister post , Cabinet, Judiciary and Legislative . We are largest democratic country in the world, seventh largest country in world. we need highly intellectual executive people in India
Yes I agree my friend
@@dharmeshparmani8473 this is not a democratic country, this is fascism
Shivam Bhattacharya , glad I didn't join IIT because i wanted to become IAS officer. Fuck my parents.Thry ain't gonna decide what I'll do with my life
Be a little sympathetic towards your parents - the words are too strong. They are only concerned. May be they've gone through so many struggles that they don't want you to see.
It's only when you do engineering that you realize what you actually want to do in life, till then your goal is to get into a good engineering college. __Story of 90% engineers
Yups it's Right
True that
Joel George exactly
What to do if u realize that ur not at all good in engineering and this is not ur field???
Yeah because in engineering college only we are able to see what is going on in world what are the options around us . Untill you go to the university you will be blind folded by school and society to get High marks, go engineering , then FFS government Job !
The Audience has absolutely no sense of humor
Sampat Mishra , Attitude problems
Lol .
Exactly!
Sss correct
Lol it's my college
They're all old people. You can see that in one of the shots. So things make sense
Am so depressed right now. taken engineering and my life sucks now.
Make the best out of it. Join ISRO or start a startup. Might as well make India proud. But again if you do not like it, make India proud some other way. Just remember you are the face of the nation.
Depression is normal happens to the best of us, but don't take any stupid steps bro, we are together in this
It's what you do with it. Why not go work on projects that matter to you. Look around you for problems and solve them and start a business?
People's lives suck because they let other people tell them how to think, what to think, what to believe, what to do with their time, energy, beat down their passion and so on..
U r not alone. I hv 4 months left for graduation and I am crying to get out from this shitty place and system. :-(
Hi
An eye opening talk to all those parents and people who think that their child is going to make a happy living by studying in an outdated 200 years ago education system. I am just 17 and I do want to change the entire Indian education system so that the next teens will be come out of school with a great dream to make India stronger in all the fields rather than becoming engineers. Thanks to you for bringing such a valuable information to us.
"In India you will always become an Engineer first, and then decide what to do with your life"
Education is the first priority in the country 😭. But this is what many nation are unable to give. This is also true
I am a South India by birth (should I explain more? I am an engineer too..) I am gladly homeschooling my 3 kids in India.....I think, this is one of the best things I chose to do.....we need more parents to look into this option so that the Homeschooling communities can bond well and allow children to excel in whatever they like to do....
Can you share more about your homeschooling journey my kid 4yrs and m more keen to home school or unschool… plz share resources if you can … thank you
I also do homeschooling of my 2 daughters
Wow sir, you are one of the very few parents who are open to even the concept of homeschooling. 99.99% of Indian parents will not even listen the idea
I feel relived that my parents doesn't force me to choose anything, they first ask for my interest and therefore make decision together .
