The interesting story of our educational system | Adhitya Iyer | TEDxCRCE

- Опубліковано 16 сер 2016
- A story surrounding more than a million students in India built around a booming IT industry, a machine like education system, a race to a seat amongst the top engineering colleges and student suicides in our system. The Indian education system in all its complexity has turned out to be one of the most fascinating educational stories in the world. Watch Adhitya Iyer in his talk share his travel around the country discovering the truth behind the common engineer in India.
Adhitya Iyer completed his engineering degree from Mumbai University, where he studied in an institute interestingly named after Sardar Patel and was inaugurated by Nehru. He was listed as one of India's Top 30 student entrepreneurs by the NEN. He later spent 2 years in Bangalore selling chai, before he set out to write a non-fiction on the complex life of India's engineers is Kickstarter funded and is India's highest crowdfunded book. He thinks the society needs to be re-imagined and that humans can't be spending more than half their life doing something they seldom enjoy.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
Meanwhile Byju's : Are you a tenth class student, preparing for the JEE or NEET?
And they don't even teach anything worth it
@@jothishprabu8 Yes, they just want to earn money 😠
The irony is that i got their ad on this video
dropper batch also available
they called me two times to enroll in their course (one of their counsillors talked to me) and they were boasting about themselves that they teach in an interactive way with animated videos usully what other learning channels can't...
but believe me there are a hundreds of youtube channels that can teach you by animation which is a hundred times better if you want to learn something new not for JEE or NEET but for your knowledge because there is a convention you know that in order to join IIT or whatever you have to join a good/better/best coaching class...but i can't afford it.
I am very very happy from what i have been learning from youtube everyday..👍
In india u always became an engineer first and then decide what to do with your life
Kids are constantly reminded about engineering and getting into prestigious institutes that when the time comes to choose their career they are blind to all other options which with risk can still change your life for better or for worse. If people looked at the rich and famous Indians who achieved what they wanted before they did the people who play safe would have mocked them and labelled them as fools who will end up broke. How will we know if we never try? We will spend our whole life thinking about what could have been of we take the safe path.

True
well those are parents who don't understand "English" specifically
I am also a student. To be honest, I think engineering (and now even medical) are treated more as a sign of prestige rather than their actual essence and effect. Many parents in India today have been accustomed to this mindset. When a child complains about the pressure, he/she is mostly told to face it boldly and go ahead, because there is no other way to succeed. The most ironic matter is that we are taught with a specific goal to crack an exam, whether we imbibe the knowledge or just memorize and spit it out on paper. And then in the future, we are asked if we have learned anything from our journey. Well, it's less of a journey and more of a regime! This comment is getting too long, but it can hardly encompass the entirety of the bad effects our education system has.(if it can even be called an education system now)
Completely agree with your opinion the ironic thing is we are told not to play video games, not to watch yt, the brainnwipp be damaged if exposed to technology and then we are told to become software engineers.
True. Engineering is considered as a 'level' in India. Most of those, I daresay are doing it under family pressure. Those many boys and girls could easily master other subjects, but now their lives are ruined. I am thankful to The Creator because my parents are supportive, and I Pray that your family and friends will be too :)

Why 60percent of iitians are teacher (excluding money)?

This video is great to its content..there are so many comments here says lifeless and boring audience...let me spit the truth all the audiences looks aged and obviously they are parents and you know better what parents wants, again these parents want their children as engineers and doctors that's it so they obviously didn't like what he was sharing...
Agreed. That's what I observed. But god atleast they should've reacted to jokes.
Painfully True
@@mrudulvemuri182 they are engineers in the class
Or they did maybe the editors of this video took off the audience's sound
well, they're the ones who need to understand this and once understood need to spread among fellow parents and let the kids decide what they wanna become for themselves out of their interests.
Education is the first priority in the country 😭. But this is what many nation are unable to give. This is also true
Tnx to the audience I can hear him out clearly word by word tnx alot
sarcasm at its peak
@@ArvindDubey-iy2wv True 😎

Your English is building my pressure
Lucky you😊
bro..same with me...
So damn true. I don't want to be an engineer but I want to be a story writer ...but sadly that won't bring happiness to my parents face .
-victim of the system .
lil awkard actions speak louder than words 😊
i can understand
Same here
I wanna be a dancer bro... Professional 1
Don't care about your parents. They're not important.
An eye opening talk to all those parents and people who think that their child is going to make a happy living by studying in an outdated 200 years ago education system. I am just 17 and I do want to change the entire Indian education system so that the next teens will be come out of school with a great dream to make India stronger in all the fields rather than becoming engineers. Thanks to you for bringing such a valuable information to us.
The public is really dead ... I would have shouted and clapping with my whole energy
Each day , hundreds of dreams and innovative ideas are crushed by our education system.........will there ever be a end to this???
Not any time soon.... Unless we suicide in very high rates with death letters where corruption didn't take place and the death letter became popular throught students and because of too many suicides our education factorys eventually were made into a semi decent education system......
yes my dear friend every demon has a tragic end
This made me cry
@@firedskull6561 the fact that this is true makes me sadder already
I will end this.

The next thing having similar fate is 'MBBS'.
You r true
omfg yes true, everyone is crazy about MBBS in India whereas in US Internal medicine (similar to MBBS) is regarded the lowest of all cuz they think only those people study Internal medicine who don't like (or have skills to do) any other medical field like surgery or etc lol.

This is literally the best Ted talk I have ever seen.

The analogy was spot on.
The audience is horrible.
I've committed these first two mistakes and I feel like I'm stepping on third mistake.
Engineering is very good sister

Who just watched ted videos for 3 hours instead of studying
Man these videos are like "life lesson learned" I'd rather not study smh but then my parents will shout at me
Yeah...😅😉
armyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Literally me!
@Sarthak Ghadi Yes it is. Eren Jeager, the free.
I study in the British system, these really good engineers should go to Canada and the US to find more and better jobs straight after finishing studies.
I am from Kanpur, UP. The "coaching mandi" is called Kakadeo and there are a lot of Millionaire Teachers who run 600-700 student capacity classes all throughout the morning-Evening. This is Business of Education happening in our country.
The problem is lack of activities in school which makes your interest in some activities. For almost 90% of students atleast sports is not an option bcoz of lack of proper infrastructure. Then comes another thing i.e. lack of proper things like lab work or showing students some things which might help them know what their interest is in.When I was in class 10 I likes to read all subjects but didn't know what I actually want and then now I wish I can change my decision.
Yes
Man this is very true
Omg same I'm still finding my interest ;_;
I didn't do a single practical yet and I am in 10th
@Abhinandan Katoch just do what u r passionate about I'm also an engineer forced by my parents to do engineering😔
"The first mistake in my life was that, I was good at studies, especially math in school" : This is so damn True. As an engineering student, I can feel that.
Same here bro
Same man. Now i think that an average students' life is way more happier and stress free than mine

Fun fact: most of students have watched this video not their parents.
Share it in Your whatsapp group that you didn’t open for ages ( aka family group ) 😂
I feel relived that my parents doesn't force me to choose anything, they first ask for my interest and therefore make decision together .
😔His voice is filled with pain
He spoke well but audience sucked !
ya because most of them are a generation old
Onkar Agashe
Never watched any other (non Indian) Ted Talk???
Pakshal Katariya
It is a Ted talk
Not a speech
People are supposed to keep quiet because many a times too much reaction can be disturbing to the speaker
Unless someone says something shocking or funny people mostly do not react much
Exactly.. They were like "this boy is absolute bonkers. What's better than engineering!" silly old generation....
Chutiyon ko angrezi aati hi nahi hogi

This video is full of awkward moments when ur joke is so high IQ that people don't understand it and then u have to laugh alone 😐😔
