Bioluminescent waves in San Diego, Red Tide & Blue Waves
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2014
- When conditions are right (or wrong) the algae off the coast blooms and can create Red Tides.
For more check: / pkraghphoto
When the algea gets excited by the movement of the wave it triggers the bioluminescence, a defense response. The more algea the more light.
This was shot mainly in Del Mar and Solana Beach.
In 15 years, I've only seen it twice like this.

wtf's up with this quest music of doom re[resenting so soothing and beautiful..
Red tides are toxic and negatively impact the local wildlife and can even poison people who eat affected shellfish.
It’s happening right now In Southern California
So cool... does it only happen a certain time of year?
It reminds me of moana when the grandmother died and when she reappaered
Finally somebody made that reference
Y e s
I got 3 beach of this class in my place🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷✌
Even Mother Nature is supporting healthcare workers.
What? This was 6 years ago.....

@@andyrockism okay sorry.mUnderstood :)
yeah, exactly what mother nature wants: healthy humans to throw more soda bottles into the ocean
I saw that in India when I was taking drugs, I wasn't really sure what was going on
youschtube How could I be more sane?
I guess we could all see(sea)that.
Good one bro
Lmfao... I've seen similar in San diego... same response
Omg!
🤣🤣🤣
This is so beautiful! I love the way you've encrypted your name on your work as well! Thank you for sharing your video!
I've been watching that happen the past couple of nights in La Jolla. It's caused by noctiluca scintillans, a species of dinoflagellates.
This is absolutely stunning! I wish I lived by the beach and witness this experience once.
I live there
Do you see this every night or when does the bioluminescent plankton come to the beach?
@@queenminks28xd64 Only when there is red tide. I float tubed the ocean one night when the ted tide was like this, everytime I kicked my feet the water would glow underneath me, scared the shit out of me. Kept praying there wasn't a shark near me.
I expirienced this today in Baja California. Such a beautiful thing
QueenMinks28 xD it happens once in a while. A few years back it lasted for over a month in Carlsbad, California. When you walk in the wet sand, it glows to, and when you kick it, you have flying sparks! Also fun to surf in, glows when you paddle and when your surfboard moves through the water. Sometimes it is more intense then others! It is very cool!
I only once in my life time experienced sea lights in the North Sea, during a sailing trip. Our skipper awakened us, launched a dinghy, and rowed around. Then he got into the water himself, and swam around. The light followed every movement. - It was the most impessive spectacle of nature I ever witnessed.
So awesome. I drove to Moonlight Beach when this was going on. We could see it in Huntington Beach, but it wasn't as prominent. my friend that just moved here from WY didn't believe me about the red tide and she was in awe at this video tonight!!
This is amazing to watch but even more amazing to see in real life. I saw this for the first time tonight at Gordon's Bay Beach. It was amazing.
When you live in San Diego your whole life and never saw this 🤣
jp edits go tomorrow just I saw it in Oceanside tonight
conor clinnin too bad the beaches are closing again May 1st, hopefully I’ll catch it
Is the pier open? Cuz low key wanna go
Dragon Slayer27! I believe Oceanside pier is open given the demand for recreational fishing
I just went to Torrey pines last night and it’s still there
This happened today in Los Angeles, California. It was so pretty and magical! ✨💙✨
WONDERFUL!! Nature is amazing!!
I saw this as a kid and it was all over the beach, the beach looked normal but when you walked on it, it would glow where you disturbed the sand for just a moment then stop... so when you walked it was like the billy jean music video where the ground glows as you take steps... amazing
This is so cool. Science is just getting more fascinating by the minute...
How can u not like this?? Mother nature is freakin awesome!!
I saw it two days ago and went to see it again today. So beautiful.
What beach did you go to??
Imperial Beach
I saw it in person, it’s so beutiful
Waaaau...que hermoso! Un espectáculo de la naturaleza! Suerte el que lo pueda vivir en vivo y en directo.
Really beautiful, should visit this beach at least once in lifetime
Way back in the 1950s when my wife and I were teenagers, we went to the beach at night when the red tide was doing its thing. We lived in Imperial Beach - most southwesterly part of the continental US. The waves broke just like in this video - fascinating and beautiful. When walking on the wet sand, the sand under our feet would flash with a glow. And when we walked and kicked the sand ahead of us, it would make a slight spray of glowing wet sand. Loved it. Thanks for the video.
h9w old r u?

Magnifique. Un balai de lumière qui rappelle les aurores boréales du nord du Québec.
I experienced this and omg when I saw it I couldn't believe it it was so beautiful so magical ❤️ I will never forget that night 😊
I seen this in Huntington Beach ca like 3 years ago it's pretty cool
His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.
Beautiful!! I swam in it, in Oaxaca its a good experience, one of this that you have to do before pass away!
Never do that again. Very dangerous.
KrabKringe Why is it dangerous?
Ɓɑdɑss Tenshɨɨ it’s not. I’ve been in the water many times during red tide, have even surfed in it at night, very cool. Nothing happened to me, and now I’m almost 72!
This is beautiful..

Surfer bro needs to catch a wave, imagine being inside a glowing tube.
😍
A H, There’s a video of that from the past week in San Diego.
I've seen this in real life. When I was around 10, I visited my late godfather who lived on the beach in (I think?) Tarzana CA. He had a GORGEOUS open villa with a master bedroom he let me stay in with a patio leading down to the beach. I remember walking around and kicking the water at night to see it glow.
Awesome footage. What a wild phenomenon.
naota3k, Tarzana isn’t near the ocean. Trancas is, and Topanga.
@@beachgirl4583 I remembered wrong. His S/O currently lives in Tarzana. The villa was in Carlsbad.
naota3k, Carlsbad has this right now. It’s pretty cool, and only happens every few years.
Saw this in India Maharashtra Kashid beach!! Its just an amazing view!!
Awesome
Damn I've lived in Pacific Beach my whole life and have yet to see this, What a shame it's fucking beautiful I pray I see this soon!
I wouldve thought that was some alien/government shit hahah

*Quarantined people from 2 days ago:* Wow this is amazing
2 days ago? I'm in quarantine since 2 months ago
Well it's going on right now so people are a little stoked about it. Especially since everyone is bored to death!
Probably a few miles into the ocean, the ocean is glowing
It's like LED lights are lighting up our Oceans. So Beautiful to see
Wow Beautiful with that blue color of the sea. I came by #Refugio Mental
Beautiful California
It's so pretty
Such beautiful camera work and so mesmerizing yet it’s completely wrecked by horrible choice of music genre, please edit the audio with a more soft and serene track.
I am going to see it soon
Bruh it would be more cooler going in the beach with those blue electric waves 🌊 😩
Hola bb cada ves te pones mas buena
Caused by Ganyaulax and Gymnodinium, which come under Kingdom Protista. Bioluminescence, such a beauty of nature
Cool! I'm gonna make flashcards this summer so can learn about all the marine micro organisms... you just inspired me☺
Do you see the red tide every year down there in SD? I live in the Bay and I've only seen it once in Pacifica back in 2012. Would love to see it again, but it's so hard to keep up with. Any suggestions?
How does it feel in 2020?
Not me waiting for the part where they will show red tides :) !!
So pretty
amaizing...
in the Chesapeake bay off of Norfolk,VA I spotted them
Well documented with good choice of music, very nice.
Dear Sir may i ask what camera did u use to capture this?

Yesterday I saw dis in karnataka, karwar, majali beach
Mon Dieu, donne moi les bonnes vibes et la sagesse du coin des Maldives!
Watched this yesterday at India surathkal
I'm still waiting for red tide lamao😆
Is there a specific time of the year when bioluminescence happens in this specific beach in sandiego? I want to skinny dip in there when it happens. Please let me know I'm eager to travel out there and check it off my bucket list before I pass away
This kind of algea bloom is very unpredictable. I've only seen it once in 10 years. When it happened it was all over, from San Diego to Oceanside
+Peter Kragh must have been a beautiful sight.
+Abigail Molina Apparently there is a place in Puerto Rico where this is pretty common.
kiwi kaboom yes there is
kiwi kaboom Vieques
I saw that kind of waves in my Village also (Guhagar) my Village house near beach only 😎
Imma say it’s God’s Glory🙌
When do they show up? During red tide only?
Now I know why the fist explorers called it La Jolla (The Jewel).
very true
very beautiful but I can not go there just to dream it out😢💜💜💜💜💜💔
Did you see this in February? I'm going there the end of next month and staying til march
this music reminds me of a ww1 dramatic trench scene from a movie I forgot the name of
This happened last night in Laguna

Hi,
I'm a journalist, working for a website called demotivateur.fr
I would like to know if I can use some parts of this video to create a short film/video content about the place and post it on our page and social networks.
Of course, you will be credited on screen and tag on it.
Thanks a lot :)
Cheers
I’ve literally experienced it like 3 days ago at corando beach near San Diego I was so high thought I was trippen till I googled it up 😂😂😂
Etherial
The world is pretty cool
Creativity of God 😘😘😘
Mr. Kragh, when exactly did this happen (at the time of your video upload time stamp, or did you upload much later?)? Also, how long does this effect last? I'm guessing there must be peek times when it's the brightest.
huyked you never know how long it will last or how bright it will be. Sometimes it is brighter than others, and sometimes it lasts a long time, sometimes not so long!
@@bugman9787
Thank you. I hear it's happening again in San Diego right now.
huyked yes it is, but in Carlsbad they have the beach fenced off. You can see it from the street, but for now you can’t walk on the beach!
@@bugman9787
I went to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas yesterday in the day time (I probably should have stayed till night - debating on going tonight). You can walk there, but aren't allowed to stop. The parking lot is closed, too, so only street parking. Using a motorcycle helps with parking. :D
huyked yes, you must go at night. It depends on different things, but it should be good for a while. I’d go tonight, walk on the beach, kick some wet sand, walk in the water, splash with your hands and feet, have fun!
Super
Hi Peter, this is Abbie Alford with ch8 in San Diego. We are following up in the gorgeous bioluminescence. Can we have your permission to use your video posted to UA-cam with credit? Thank you
In my village near the sea it becomes Green...
Are these dinoflagellate?
In Pakistan sapat beach
