No disrespect Keroppi but i disagree. I think alot of people underestimate how much money they make from NGS. We have seen the same roll out for over 2 decades from Sega when these Phantasy Star games. I dont think they do this because of budget or because of the size of support. It's more about them following a recipe that has worked time and time again. The recipe is basically taking 3 years worth of content and spreading it out over 8 years.
Although this has worked in the past. Gamers today have alot more options and shorter attention spans. And as far as the longtime PSO fans like me. Most of us are older and have more responsibilities and cant devote the same amount of time we used to without feeling rewarded. They haven't adjusted to the times and thats the biggest issue with NGS and Sega.

You are missing one thing. WF had really short dev team, but after years they expanded and now they are able to give us bigger updates and more content (if X amount of content took them 2 years decade ago, now they can do it in 6 months). NGS is not in the same situation. SEGA can afford to invest in the game and expand the dev team RIGHT NOW. If they dont do that why would you think they will later? More likely they will produce the same amount of content over next years and dev team will stay small.
P.S. DE start low, go high later. SEGA start low, stays low later.

Yeah he definitely covered that early in the video. NGS isn't SEGA's cash cow pachinko machines bring in more money. Then you got bigger series like Sonic, Yakuza, and now Persona that probably sit higher than NGS on the pecking order of things.

You must understand that DE don't make big game tittles like Sega does in comparison. Sega makes big game titles like Sonic and etc. DE however don't which gives them more times to focus on Warframe and upcoming contents for the game. Yes that's why NGS is still at low because all their times is used to focus on bigger game titles. That's why NGS is slowly sinking compared to warframe which is more stable in keeping their player base compare to NGS because the Sega devs are lazy and rinse repeat content over again. That's why NGS is slowly sinking, but just imagine if they did cared because we all know NGS wouldn't be in such horrible state atm.

What Keroppi said is extremely important. The dev team and budget is very clearly not there for this game anymore. Sega puts as little money and effort into this "live service" as possible. It's on a downward trend and will continue to be that way until EOS because Sega has no plans of trying to turn things around anymore. They have attempted for years and continue to fail due to incompetence and consistent failure to understand what their players want. Keep that in mind when you consider spending money on this game, things are wrapping up look at the god-awful road map and tell me with a straight face that they are somehow cooking something with this game. ITS OVER

Indeed, he's correct. Initially, they encountered that issue, but it also highlights the apparent lack of initiative from the PSO2 development team. With two teams of equal size, one seems more driven than the other. They aim to create a game rich in story content to engage players and keep them returning for more. However, as I've noted before, PSO2 tends to recycle the same events repeatedly. In contrast, Warframe introduces new side quests with each update that often tie into the main storyline, making each update feel like a progression in the narrative. Meanwhile, PSO2 leisurely rolls out a story segment that lasts 30 to 15 minutes, followed by a six-month wait. Need I say more?

If there's anything I want to compare NGS to, I should compare it to something that strikes more home: Base PSO2. Specifically Divide, Extreme and the later Ultimate Quests.
Divide Quests were something I always came back to. Plenty of rewards at the end and it was always fun to do, even solo. It's almost never a waste to do, because of the materials that drop for crafting the Darkweave weapons. And there was enough variety in the stages to keep things interesting. I always wanted to solo push all the way to Floor 35, but can't anymore, because MS Store and Tweaker are having issues when it comes to Base PSO.
Extreme Quests probably weren't as popular, but still had some things to chase for and the rewards were based on how well you were doing during the challenges. And those challenges can really test you sometimes. I did go back there every now and then if I felt like chasing units with Veteran Resolve. We kind of have Geo Lab for this in NGS, but it doesn't even give nearly enough rewards and variety to make it worthwhile.
As for Ultimate Quests: I'd be talking about the 2 solo boss fights: Masquerade and Sodam. You can choose between a massive amount of difficulty levels. Higher levels even added some mechanics or phases in the fight. And based on that, the rewards will be either better or worse. Plus the first time rewards were enough of a reason to unlock all those difficulty levels (Masky boi had freaking 999 levels!!!). Looking at the roadmap, we might be getting something like this again, but we'll have to wait and see. Not getting my hopes up JUST yet.
So in short: SEGA really needs to allow more people to actually work on the game. And it needs to be people that actually want to make the game good, just like with the director we had for Base PSO Ep 6. NGS should probably look back at that part of Base PSO and how things were handled there. If they can take notes from that, we might be seeing some better things coming up that are actually worth grinding. They can add new things as much as they want, but those things will die off fast if there's barely or no replay value. I mean.... When was the last time we actually wanted to do Cannonball Strike? Does anyone even remember that?
Also a side note: Kero, be careful where you point that sword, damnit! XD

There's a great game that NGS should copy, and that game is called PSO2.

Imagine the higher ups saying PSO2: NGS is not profitable but not realizing it's because they haven't invested in it. NGS = Sega pet project, nothing serious. Got it, message received Sega. Therefore, I will treat it like a pet project when it comes to spending, which is "nothing."

  • @theoaremevano3227
    @theoaremevano3227 Місяць тому +1

SEGA's at a weird crossroads with a mid-generation update like NGS. It's not the most modern MMO available and yet it gets a fair amount for what it is thanks to PSO2 overall being a success, so when it comes to investment, I have to imagine SEGA is choosing how much to actually put into NGS's remaining years, vs their next title, which needs to be able to hit harder. Could easily see them wanting to put just enough pressure into NGS to make it work out okay, while they work on more expensive and modern endeavors. I don't see NGS going away soon, but by the time it does I would expect to see them rolling out a replacement product; either their rumored PSO 1 remake project, or another, new PSO.
If anything were to happen in NGS's remaining years, I'd like to see it actually manage to tell its story in a way that ends up being compelling by the end. It's hard to really make it great with what's already out, but it would be nice to see it fleshed out as a concept by the time they move on, and what I really hope is the massive amount of feedback they've taken in and addressed also gets logged carefully for their future online projects, because it's all very useful data.

Honestly, the bit about trading not being a thing in ngs still baffles me, cause trading used to be a thing on PSO2 base, of course that was licked behind a paywall but at least it was there.
But i didn't know that ngs had so little support, considering all the collabs that happen, i thought a good amount was spent on making those happen. And that they do make a profit considering how much money i see people waste on those scratches.
But idk, guess it's kind of a blessing and a curse that i can't AC in my country(Netherlands).

Yup I'm the guy with the comment in question being discussed in this video. I will likely leave and additionally long comment here because I do type really fast and it does not take me very long to leave a very long comment, but also like to give full context, so apologies on that front: I just try to keep it 100. The original comment took me less than 3 minutes, while I was doing other stuff, but I apologize for that one, and likely this one. what can I say? Communicating on the internet has uh......drawbacks...
    1. I'm not under any expectation that Kero himself is a dev or has that much pull alone with Sega (he has said as much many times, and I believe him), but I feel his uh...maybe feeling like I feel that way? I don't, and tried to make the point this is a community problem, not a Kero problem.
I would maybe suggest people read the comments on the previous video for full context (by all means rip me a new one if you deem it fully necessary, I will still appreciate anybody who takes time to criticize me), but I really appreciate Kero taking time to address it specifically here, that is awesome. While I feel he left out very important parts to focus on the least important part for the video, if Kero wasn't a man of the people he wouldn't have addressed it AT ALL. For that I am extremely greatful.
    2. Yeah, if you haven't played Warframe in a good decade, you probably don't REALLY know why I think taking pointers from a game like that is so important, and why trading would be the big thing you DID suggest. To be fair, I would put trading far lower on the list of things that could be taken from that game and given an NGS spin. But that would probably help a lot yeah.
    3. I had no idea our money was basically going to pachinko, that in of itself was a crazy revelation to me.
    4. I actually think on a level of critique, this is one of the best videos I have ever seen Kero do. That alone for me is mission accomplished, but Keor is the only one who really deserves the credit for that. I would hope other creators don't leave all the heavy lifting for Kero, but I think his addressing this will make the rest of our creator community pay attention, so that enough of them can create a commonly held narrative that can actually reach Sega in any significant way.

They actually do. The amount you can trade daily is dictated by the MR. You can start trading, if you reach MR2 minimum. If your MR rises, the amount of trades increases by 1 for every level above MR2. Or short, beginners in Warframe can trade less then Veterans.

A personal shop open for all would help a lot.

  • @Cathy5614
    @Cathy5614 Місяць тому +5

I agree, the game would be better off if players had access to the player shop and its been something I advocated for a few months now. Either move the 30 day Shop pass from AC to SG shop or add a 3 Day Shop pass into the Genesis Points Exchange shop. It could be a once a week thing so now F2P can use the shop 15 days a month +/- 3 days depending on treasure scratch (or even better, do both).
I always have premium so when I look at the drops of lets say Dark Falz Aegis I see
    - 20k Meseta guaranteed
    - 50~100k Meseta in Aegis Soul IV (depends on market price)
    - Aegis Integra (exchangeable for more sellable Lux Halphinale materials)
    - Ektasis Armor (20~50k if sold with Fixa 1)
    - M.A.R.S. Updater
So for premium players that's a pretty decent value for the effort (almost 200k if the market is generous). Now remove every element that requires shop access and suddenly you realize why so many people think content in this game is "unrewarding". The same line of thinking can apply to every other quest in the game. You've hit jackpot on a 70m weapon camo? Too bad you can't sell it!
The only source of Meseta that is indiscriminatory to F2P is Dext Base, a tediously boring Grind that only serves to inflate the economy, further increasing people's reliance on Dext base to make money to keep up with the ballooning prices.
I do think the Devs might address this soon though. History loves to repeat itself (both in terms of state of the game and the themes of the story) and in PSO2 it took about 3,5 years for F2P players to get a reliable source of Shop passes. NGS is slowly getting around to that age so I wouldn't be surprised if December / February makes shop passes more available for F2P.
Also they seriously need to relax the weekly limit on some of these exchange shops and/or add more useful items. lv1~2 Fixa boosters and 20% Affix success rate boosters could be added to stuff like Ex-Cube Exchange or Growthment exchange, and the ones we can currently buy with SG could simply get upgraded by a tier (20% > 30% Affix Booster), Augment Transfer Vouchers could be added to a weekly exchange. Dread Keeper should be added to Dread Scale Exchange (since LTQ love dropping these scales). It would overall make a lot of content more valueable to farm, especially if focused on Items that will remain permanently valueable.

Phantasy Star Online is one of the only F2P games I've really vibed with. PSO, PSO2, and NGS. I played tons of RuneScape when I was a kid because it was like the only thing my computer could run and my friends played it. I played Blacklight Retribution because it's a super unique shooter. Definitely can't play OSRS anymore and BR is dead. I've tried many other MMOs, both F2P and not, and none of them really strike my fancy quite as much as PSO does. Maybe there's just some sort of Venn diagram of people who will enjoy other F2P online games and PSO, with the center being relatively small. I do actually think that it only got as big as it did in the west because of lockdowns and how fast they were pumping out content since it was all already made. Now that it's not like that, those people have more or less vanished. If PSO2 had more or less stayed in the same spot it was in and the content just slowed down, I think there's a chance we would be in an even worse spot than we are today post-NGS launch.

If they do Direct trading, I think they should do something similar to What Warframe does, where the amount that you can trade per day is completely dependent on your mastery rank, (need to make a system in PSO2 say guardian level) a new player can only trade once a day, while someone on the other hand that is mastery 30 can trade 30 times a day, this is a good incentive, because it limits those scam accounts that are freshly made because they actually have to put in true effort to trade, which is inconvenient for them, I would also add these restrictions if I could.
    - you are not allowed to trade money at all
    - any item that is traded can no longer be sold on the personal shop
    - any traded weapon, that is infused as a base or sub is prohibited from being sold on the shop.
    - any augmentation or any other thing considered a booster, enhancement thing, would get a name of, traded (x item name), and if used on x item, gets blacklisted from being able to be sold on the personal shop.
This is just to stop people from circumnavigating the system.
And when it comes to obtaining items, I would do a similar thing to Warframe, something like the relics, where you play content and you have a percentage chance of pulling that item from x Relic type, because when running it with a group you can take from anybody's relic if they got the part that you want

At the end of the day, I keep yapping the same thing again and AGAIN. SEGA COULD provide more DEVELOPERS and BUDGET for PSCrew and make it a way better game, with the current Dev team, they can only service the JP side with surface stuff and not taking risks, even back in Base PSO2 they did take risks. Keep in mind that Sonic Team HAD to trick their higher ups for a much more larger budget to make Sonic Frontiers. Like that's the huge problem here. After the CMs and even David Plays NGS has stopped, it just mostly Partying in a Creative Space instead of any direct communication to Global side of NGS.

Platinum is the premium currency in the game, serving as the sole currency besides the endgame money used for upgrades. It's essential for enhancing armors, frames, weapons, and mods, although other resources are also utilized for these purposes. Primarily, platinum is the main currency for acquiring items. However, it's unlikely that Sega would permit trading items for the gems needed for AC, as it would result in a financial loss for them. The player market operates on real money transactions rather than in-game currency. While NGS employs a gacha system, Warframe is more straightforward-you receive exactly what you purchase. Unfortunately, Sega is not expected to allow item trades for the necessary gems or AC.

Back in the day, I believe Warframe's development was based on a similar team structure to that of PSO2, albeit quite small. The key difference between the two was motivation; the Warframe team was significantly more driven to update and improve their game. In contrast, the PSO2 developers seemed content to rest on their laurels and recycle content they had already released countless times. I won't elaborate further as it's redundant; the distinction between the two is clear to all.

When warframe was in development they were broke and desperately trying to sell the game to any publisher who would publish it, but none accepted. It was their hail Mary attempt where they operated on a loss until they found a playerbase.
Sega determines what happens with pso2, as the dev teams budget is solely decided by sega, and sega doesn't seem to want to invest more into live service games as niche as PSO and want to bet on larger names in the west like crazy taxi (nostalgia) and jetset radio (Y2K aesthetic boom, viral music, etc)

Honestly, I feel like a trading system with a small meseta fine, like 10k per trade would be a blessing in disguise at this point. Because I remember trying to grind against the RnG for the Gran and Glan for about a week, and it is excruciatingly tedious afterwards in my opinion, which then I leave the game for a while and play something else like Fortnite or TFD (don’t hate me for Fortnite)
I don’t mind grinding for something rare, but at least for about 30 minutes to an hour it should guaranteean augment drop whether it’s Gran, Glan, Halphs, or Dreads.
So if they won’t give a trading system, they should heighten the drop rates, and if they won’t do that, then give the trading system. Don’t know if anyone would agree or anything, just giving my opinion on the matter, cause I at least do a side hustle in Ship 3’s Central for Symbol Arts for a fair price, and it helps a lot.

The game is just there to sell AC scratch tickets. If they can put out MULTIPLE large scratch tickets FULL of items that are all hand crafted meshes with their own textures and effects then you aren't waking up to the larger picture here. Cash cow. The game is not intended to "go anywhere" it's just a side job funnel to fund Sonic movies and Sonic games etc. There is no reason why they could not JUST HAVE ONE AC scratch a month and devote all the other time into developing actual new areas, story, characters, enemies etc MORE OFTEN than once a year. The game is failed leadership and failed sense of direction. It's been over for a while now. I even quit after like 9000 hours since base game global. Time to move on and stop beating ourselves up coping for this shitty game.

I agreed about the problems. NGS is sinking ship. The devs don't want to listen and all NGS players saying it's still growing is delusional or still asking Sega give NGS the warframe treatment is dumb as heck because it's over 3 yrs. The game still the same because all players are still on planet Halpha and no new planets or region. Warframe has more content than NGS. IDK why players are there just to suffer in NGS. I let go of NGS when Warframe announced warframe 1999 and TFD was announced. NGS is hardly getting new players compare to other f2p games like warframe. Also the alliance toxicity is bad in the game because there's nothing to do so every alliance just talk shiz about one another. I never had that in any game I play that had clan or alliance. Being in 1 alliance makes other alliances hate you for no reason which is stupid compared to Destiny 2 or warframe because it was stupid as heck for no reason. Letting go NGS was the best thing for me. My clan in warframe made fun of my alliance leader in NGS because they say she or he is so dumb and don't know how keep connections between other alliance instead make them into enemies is not good look. NGS is failure of what open worlds should not be. Glad other games caught a hold of this.

But yeah, at the end of the day, Sega, our PSO2 I should say, is a gotcha game. They're not going to allow stuff like that in their game when they know they would lose out on money. Would I prefer just to buy straight out the items that I want? Yes. Will they ever allow that? No. because they thinking, hey, we'll put the gotcha system in if they don't get the item, then they'll put more money in to get it. Basically, you're gambling, and they want you to spend more money. We've been over this. So, yeah, I don't think they will ever allow trading in their games. Are at rat purchase what you want.

I understand and see his point. Indeed, there's a problem. However, as he mentioned, earning two million, three million, or whatever amount, should be sufficient to innovate the Halloween and Christmas events. Instead of a seasonal shop, they could offer something different. But they recycle the same content, merely altering its name or rank, and claim it's new. It seems they're using that $2 million for something else, perhaps those inexpensive cereals they favor. I concur that it's not just a financial issue but also a lack of ambition and motivation. Warframe, as he pointed out, faced similar challenges, yet they continue to release remarkable content.

Regarding Warframe and PSO2, both are commendable games. I would argue that Warframe surpasses PSO2 in terms of story content. The developers consistently enhance the narrative, and each update usually includes a side quest that enriches the main storyline. This approach to updates and development is superior to what PSO2 offers. If PSO2's developers were more proactive, it could rival Warframe. Returning to my point, Warframe is entirely free to play; you can earn everything in-game through farming, except for skins, which are purchasable. To my knowledge, all items are obtainable, but having not played for a year, my information might be outdated. Corrections are welcome. Aside from the story, I believe PSO2 excels, and it could certainly take cues from Warframe. Their drop rate systems are similar, but Warframe might be more enjoyable due to its dynamic movement and weapon switching, keeping the combat fast-paced. Warframe's skill and ability dynamics always contribute to a thrilling experience. It definitely has advantages over PSO2. However, both games could learn from each other. PSO2's strengths lie in its customization and fashion options, areas where Warframe is significantly lacking. The character customization in Warframe doesn't compare to the extensive options available in PSO2.

If it is one game I belive Sega would copy is tower of fantasy. Everyone tend to say Tof is a genshin clone but it feels way more like ngs than genshin. With one core difference that hotta throws everything on the wall and see if it sticks. Honestly the sole reason that game failed was that it's totally unpolished and the dupe system was horrible. At least the dev team tends to polish the content they drop for ngs, just keep the gear dupe system away and throw some more random mini games and they might (emphasis on might) keep this ship sailing for a few more years. Sadly this will never happen be cause at this point Sega rather allow ngs to go EOS than fixing the game solely out of spite.
And I already accepted that they would never fix the players market. And why would they? No access to the player market and extremely boring and repetitive grinding will make the players more inclined to just buy a to play the scratches. Just like how gta deals with grinders (at least we can be happy that Sega don't encourage other players to troll combat zone grinds).

I played Warframe abiut 2 years ago. Right before Duviri Paradox. Like any game, I subbed to a bunch of Warframe channels while I played, and the overall sentiment I was getting from them at the time was that there wasn’t really anything new to do and none of the updates really added any substantive content. Even their huge megahyped update(I think it was called New War?) amounted to just a couple hours of story quests. Since then, I’ve heard a lot of complaints that all the dev work has been pushed towards that new game.
I think whoever says NGS should be more like Warframe is just looking at their situation with rose-tinted goggles.

People want when a game essentially figured out and all content is dumped together.
It’s why people play FF11 and Classic WOW still.
They want to know the game is finished.
When WF or Global go on long droughts they work on drawing new players who, see/saw this huge opportunity and game that was: figured out, on farm by vets(hard content made easy), and full of meaningful gear and skills with no bugs.
People whom had to play the drip feed and or warts of the game don’t see it that way.
Japanese base fans are not as nostalgic about base as global fans are.

2: Nameless city, pretty much Tokyo from pso2 base, but in the city inside the arks ship (makes me question if Halpha itself is not inside the ship as well)
3: more history progression, showing more character development on Aina and Manon (Mainly Aina)
4: skill customization mechanics, allowing you to make slightly changes on how they work.

I play Warframe. I prefer pso2. In fact I've gotten bored of Warframe recently and have been thinking about just uninstalling it altogether. The character customization in Warframe is a-- imo, you can't design your own ninja robot and you're just stuck with pre-made characters, any "human" characters in there are just ever fugly, installing any mods (including mere APPEARANCE REPLACER mods that have no effect on gameplay whatsoever) is a bannable offense so I'm stuck with all these fugly m- f- ers, and obtaining cosmetics requires either buying them with real money, buying platinum with real money, actual direct interaction with other players to get platinum f2p, or the worst one yet: using a 3rd party market website for platinum. Ew. No thanks. Oh right and the gear grind takes forever and the game forces you into stealth missions which I absolutely despise with the very core of my being. So yeah, f Warframe. Pso2 is better. :P
And yes I treat pso2 as a dolly dress up game, is there a problem with that? Is it breaking Sega TOS? Is it causing the dea- ths of millions of innocent children? No. No it isn't. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be making a cosplay of Griffith from Berserk in a maid dress and pole- dancing in the middle of town.

Im a game developer myself, and I had an idea for the whole "useless items" thing. They could have it where you can craft fixa capsules from weapons you get. There would need to be some sort of balancing, but say you got a garbo weapon with a good fixa. You could take a bunch of weapons with the same fixa and turn it into a capsule, which grants a lv 1 of that fixa. They would just have to put limits on it to make sure people dont abuse it.

Ive honestly always compare ngs to final fantasy xi or xiv.
Both have open areas, both have instanced “dungeons,” and both have the same basics of mmorpg.
Now where ffxiv succeeds and ngs could learn from:
    1. Every class is not a dps class. Each class should have a focus to give players a reason to play together
    2. Each dungeon is unique. Even when the dungeon is the same layout for higher levels, it is still different from the lower level version
    3. crafting and gathering classes. Huge must have for any mmorpg!
    4. Huge story!
    5. Huge cities!
    6. More hp is NOT the fix all to make a boss for higher level runs!
    Now where ffxiv failed…
    1. Demonic… not everyone can play games with demonic. Not E
And finally where both games fail:
    1. You have the ability to go full blown hentai clothing but no way to make them invisible without first seeing it and then blocking it. Not good for families with children!
