      Really enjoyed the video, I’ve had issues with this in the past when I was 18. I fouled up my PC with crappy anti-virus and optimization software and ended up taking it to many places like Office Depot. Long story short it never was fixed. This is great information for PC users old and new.

    Common sense is not common at all.
    Literally no one I ever meet understands that you won't catch viruses as long as you don't open suspicious files, emails or browse shady sites.
    I feel supported by an actual engineer for once.

      Actually certain legitimate programs have been infected with viruses before on thier legitimate sites. CCleaner is an example that comes to mind. All I'm saying is that it is possible for legitimate sites and programs to become infected with malware, and in that case common sense really won't help.

    I work for Apple and the amount of people who download “Mackeeper” or “MacCleaner” and think it’s a software provided from apple or mandatory for their Mac is unbelievable.
    What’s really funny is when people claim to be software engineers and want to tell me they’re computer experts yet they’re downloading random attachments from scam emails or believing because they have an ipv6 address that means someone from another country has hacked into their computer.
    I get a lot of interesting calls let’s just say that. 😂

      @@volsavious2319 Okay where do I start? Unless your PC can't connect to the internet, we didn't physically work on it ourselves for any of the packages you could could buy from us. I was told to immediately hook the PC up to ethernet and connect it to "the Matrix" which sounds hilarious. But I was never outwardly told if the people remoting into the computers via this Matrix were employees of Staples, I got the runaround on A LOT of questions I asked when I worked there. I also would like to point out that I was the only female tech there, as this will come into play later on. I'd say about a few months into working there, a computer came into the store and we were told to collect the photos from it because the owner had passed away and the pics were needed for his wake. Nobody wanted to touch this machine so they came to me as the new kid and told me to do it, I accepted like the dope I am. I cannot tell you how many nudes and porn I found on that computer that I had to manually delete from the computer. It basically took almost all of my shift to do this. I also had met a fellow coworker who was actually pretty creepy and would LITERALLY have a hard on in the store while working and frequently adjusted himself. 😂 Okay, fast forward to about the last 4 months of my year of being there, I was shoved to being a cashier full time with no tech or sales time at all despite being promised all the techs would take shifts so everyone got time on the floor. At this point, I had been hounding the manager about getting certifications to work on the intake computers myself as far as hardware replacements and virus removals or just things that could be done if a computer wasn't able to connect to the internet for the mystery people to work on. I was told different things each time, "oh we talk to the GM and she will set you up" "oh that test you took in your application was your certification" "you aren't ready for that certification yet" etc. I eventually got fed up and left the company. I couldn't confirm it, but I have a feeling that it was because I was the only female tech, as none of my male counterparts in my department had the same runaround that I did. Also, their training videos are literally copyright infringements on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. I literally hated working there so much that by the time I quit, I had been in a spiral of depression and admitted myself to the hospital. BUT now I'm working for an amazing place as tech support and I couldn't be happier. OH one last thing to say about things there, they literally taught us to do nothing but sell as much shit as we could. You didn't need the liquid armor shit, you don't need that protection plan, or anything. It was just a way to pad our personal numbers for the month as an employee. But I'm pretty sure that's any sales position, I wouldn't know since I haven't worked a position like that since then. I feel like this is a semi lame story but it's my experience from working at Staples.

      Torrents are safe if you know the uploader/provider of the torrent file has a good track record in the community (aka multiple uploads and many seeds still on them).
      If you do get something shady though, Windows Defender will likely flag the file as soon as it downloads. Then you can just delete it or run it in sandbox mode.

    @Lovuschka 5 років тому

    There is some military level security software (not an antivirus, rather a whitelist for programs with protection for the system) that offers a gaming mode. If you use that, it restarts the PC and essentially only loads the most necessary stuff, and you can turn it off again and it restarts normally. Gaming mode has higher frame rate, but obviously is only for gaming, not recommended for anything else.
    Sp there is legit software that makes the PC faster, or rather working one, that does not permanently change your startup etc., so your system doesn't screw up. However, you need to know what it is, so not really for the normal PC user.

    how is it scam if a company offers service to improve a pc?
    i work for a local company near me and im asked many times to come over and fix pcs because they bought one from us and they dont understand what edge is for instance. or that they have no idea how to setup some programs. i charge 5 bucks an hour but i will get lots of shit done. and clients even get my phone number to call me for over the phone tips wich are free.

    The only ones I've let onto my system like that was MS Tech support & yes I contacted them, and I was the one that told them what the issue was (and it was confirmed by them, but of course), and all I said was have fucking at it.. I'm going to go eat, be back in an hour or two.
    -- The network wasn't swiching to private, being stuck on Public profile.
    I feel sorry for the soul, I cooperated, gave full access, disabled UAC for him & nothing he did worked (and he did many a option, that I am sure was meant to work), and 3 hours after the session started he gave up.
    --I also wasn't billed either, X}
    note not all tech support is a scam, but .. blindly trusting is dumb.

    I rarely need to reinstall Windows. Current install is a year old and runs the same as when I first installed it.
    Rarely even felt the need to do it with Windows 7.

    I used WiseRegistryCleaner for a long time as it was always free for me to just clean the registry. I probably should uninstall it as I never use it anymore.

    Haven't had to reinstall Win10 at all since its release. No improvements in doing so, unless the system is faulted in the first place.
    2 of my ROG laptops get a new Win10 every week or so. Sometimes just security or patches, other times, complete new builds.

    Question as I’m not a tech savvy person. I have an app that came with my galaxy s8 that’s called Game Launcher. Is that one of those softwares that’s “free up your software” that I shouldn’t be using?

    • @iksskan9147
      @iksskan9147 5 років тому

      You shouldn't be using apps like those period
      Also go to settings and press permissions then go to the app you stated previously
      Finally look at what permissions that app has,they tend to take permissions for calendar and even phonebook

    If there's a registry entry for a file that does not exist, that's not really tampering with your windows folder as you seem to be suggesting. You clearly don't like those Pc optimizing apps, but I feel like you're being too negative about them here. When cleaning your registry, there's nothing less harmless to do than to remove entries that lead to non-existent files for example. Those entries are completely useless so might as well delete them. Keeping them probably does not harm you in a major way, but when you have like 100,000 of them, it may be better to wipe them out. Sure, there's probably no point in using those optimizing programmes more often than every couple weeks/months, but if someone wants to do it every 2 days, nothing bad really happens to him.
