    What an amazing insight into characters and I totally agree with your theory... documentaries are very much like dates. Great stuff

    I love "dating" people😂! I've been doing it since I was a kid... I love getting intimate with strangers through conversations. My earliest memories are sitting on the stairs listening to people's stories. Getting them to open up to me the first conversation and me purely listening without judgment.. I love those small moments and those connections. Their stories sre poerful... their struggles sre incredible and they deserve to be honored through storytelling❤

      I know exactly what you mean! What is it about stairs as a perfect spot for intimate chats? You could do a series called “Stair Stories” or something haha

    This video - this channel - shows everything that is eroding about UA-cam. You should not have made this video.
    The high quality of production and the professional level of insight is just far too good for UA-cam. Your channel deserves many more subs and this video deserves more views.

      Thank you Gary, glad you found some value! I feel like UA-cam is a good place to experiment with style and writing these videos helps me distill my thoughts.

    Very good video .Very helpful but what were the black and white movies you used.I know one of them was Charade but what was the other black and white picture.?

    • @BillThisdell
      @BillThisdell  3 місяці тому

      Spellbound with Ingrid Bergman and James Stewart, and the other was Sabrina (which I highly recommend) with Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart

    Thank you for making this! Very informative.
    One question: How do you deal with compensation? Do you offer a set amount up front to follow them around for an agreed upon time? Pay them daily? (Given they want to be compensated via money) How does that side work?
    I have found when I have photographed people more times than not they don't want money. However, if you are filming and being in their life for many days/weeks/months.. I assume they would want something?

    • @BillThisdell
      @BillThisdell  3 роки тому +1

      I've never paid anyone to appear in a film. I think it sets the wrong motivation as you want the character to also be emotionally invested in creating the film. I once did have someone ask to be paid once and I decided not to work with them as other people in the film were happy to volunteer.
      If I was to compensate I would start with meals and just generally contribute to things we share. As much as possible I want a film to feel collaborative.
      I think a day fee would be too much and too complex as filming is often in fragments over a long period of time. As a last resort, I may negotiate a fixed fee or some percentage of future profits if the project was to be commercial/monetized in some way.
