    For several reasons, I actually think this is the superior version:
    - More book accurate
    - Better ending
    - More interesting characterisation (the original characters were really basic and flat)
    - Mr Bucket exists
    - Better grandparents
    - Superb sets
    - Varied and catchy music
    - Wonka’s backstory
    - Dahl hated the original movie (even said it was too saccharine)

      Prefer the OG movie. More realistic, actual sets, not just 1 oompa loompa, had better choreo and more memorable songs. People had different personalities instead of just being a character over the top archetype. Wonka was an eccentric instead of the 2000's trope of making everyone a trauma victim.

      @@xejelah It’s meant to be whimsical, not realistic (realism is overrated, realistic doesn’t always mean better) Actual sets? The 2005 movie also has actual sets (which are more impressive than the original). One Oompa Loompa is a feat more than anything. Saying the original had better choreography is just false. Memorable doesn’t mean better. The newer songs feel like they had so much more care and detail put into them than just being the same copy/paste template. Even the genres of the newer songs reflect the kid they're singing about. And what you said about the characters makes no sense and is genuinely wrong. The original characters were the basic, boring and trope-y ones. It’s a good decision to dial up the nastiness of the other 4 kids, makes you feel less bad for them. It really feels like people only like the original because it's the oRiGInAl and the stupid mindset that the original is always the best. They think the original movie is the source material when the source material is the book (which the 2005 movie does more justice to)

    I know a lot of people are somewhat mixed on this version following the book, over the less accurate, more cheery nature of the original 70's version, but for me, that's what makes this version better, in it's core Ronald Dahl's books always had some form of dark undertone in most of his works (however you may feel personally about the man in question or his works) so it does fit with the original theme of it

    • @elizabethfeuerbach5006
      @elizabethfeuerbach5006 6 місяців тому +164

      Actually, Roald Dahl hated the 70s version. Even though he wrote the script, so many changes were made that Dahl didn't approve. Some were even made without him knowing. For the 2000s version, Dahl's widow gave the seal of approval after seeing the Bucket house. I wish Roald Dahl could see this version. RIP

    Burton was completely against using CGI if he could help it, and this is another example. All the squirrels you see? They're real. In fact, they're rescue squirrels that Burton specifically hired someone to train them to do all these scenes. He even named them.
    If you really want specifics, the real ones are whenever you get a close up of one, when they first attack Veruca's stunt double, and when that one squirrel pushes the dad in after her.
    Also, apparently this is supposed to be ironic. She exploited nut workers to get what she wanted in the beginning, tried to do the same thing here, and it backfired.

    The bucket house is actually the reason the movie got the green light from Roald Dahl's widow. Why? It's based off of Dahl's famous writing shed. It's common knowledge that Dahl hated the original, so naturally she was protective of any future adaptations. But when she saw the house, and found out they'd designed the Bucket house like that on purpose? That sold the deal for her.

    Say what you want about them playing the dementia trope for laughs, but according to people with family members who have dementia, they all learned to treasure every moment of clarity like it's the last one. Like Charlie's doing here.

    • @Br0nto5aurus
      @Br0nto5aurus 6 місяців тому +40

      As I understand it, one possible symptom of dementia is childishness, which can be a joy to be around for their family, and have plenty of laughs. I distinctly remember a man posting about a check given to him by his grandmother with dementia, and the memo read "for candy and bubblegum". It was hilarious and adorable. I don't see anything wrong with that, especially when it seems to be a fairly accurate depiction.
      Another possible symptom of dementia is violent outbursts. I'd have more of a problem with media primarily depicting dementia violently, even if it's accurate, because it might cause viewers to think all people with dementia are violent, always dangerous, and to be feared.

It seems a lot of people didn't even know there _was_ a book, let alone that it was the original story, so they automatically assumed it was a remake rather than a retelling.
      The only issue I have with this version is the CGI. It tells a much better story than the original (makes sense since it's closer to the source material), the acting is perfect and all the music is fantastic. It's just the SnapChat filter on everyone, duplicating one actor for all the oompa-loompas and some of the other effects keep jarring me out of it. 2. Also, it shows he was there for another reason, and found them by chance.

    If I remember correctly, Willy Wonka’s backstory in this movie is somewhat similar to Tim Burton’s, from what I’ve heard. From what I remember, his mom didn’t support what he was doing (?); I don’t know if he ran away, though. But I do know he returned home, and his mom had portraits and snippets of his achievements. Don’t take this word for word because I heard about this a while ago
