Ring rust/match fitness was a big factor in the first fight.

Fury became King of the Gypsies, beat the undisputed champion on his turf, fell into the abyss, came out the other side, beat the next champion, got robbed, then went back to beat him again decisively. He's also just a much better boxer and a much more colourful, interesting, genuine person than Wilder
