I always thought the POGO was meant for controlling the troops from the back lines. Hence the antenna and the spiffy controls inside. Its jumping is for getting better views of thr battle field and escapes. It was one of my favourites as a kid.
Despite the fact that it--and 1987 in general--represent the hard right turn into the more fantastical, I think the Pogo still retains the nice detail and handsome aesthetic too often missing in the line going forward from this point. This for me is the bleeding edge of the classic G.I. Joe era.
The Pogo was actually one of my faves as a kid. I had the bigger vehicles as well, like the Condor, but when I'd go out and play the Pogo would always come along.
I always used the astro viper as the pogo driver because I thought his helmet visor and the decal on the front of the pogo were ment to be the same ( the yellow triangle). To me it gave astro added "vision " syncing the two together
The toy looks nice but there seems to be a lack of imagination from the designers as how would it work. The missiles probably are mean to be thrown as a arc from the ground to its' target. At this point I felt that the comic book series were rushing to introduce their toys, Raptor, battle armour Cobra Commander, Pogo...
always loved the pogo that and the Imp where my first self purchased Gi joe vehicles. you can actually get the ME figures into it they are a tight squeeze but as long as you don't use super bulky figures you can do it. I usually use a few ROC neo-vipers in mine.
I wish Hasbro create a Cobra Pogo II for modern figures. It should have spring-action legs, but some redesign the cockpit. Make it the vehicle more Mech-ish if you know what I mean.👍

Cobra design team had some real balls... :)

One would assume the thrusters are there for landing too. Otherwise it would go splat upon returning to the ground, or keep on bouncing forever.
I really like the canopy though.

When my dad bought this toy for me, I was 11. I used to remove the coiled legs and I played with it as a mini-submarine while I was in our bathtub.
I never had this until recently. It's wacky, but I think it's cool.

I had one of these back in the day. Luckily they are easy to find on the aftermarket.
I used to imagine this thing would hover in the air and drop missles on the joes.
With a small screw on the bottom I used the Antenna for the Desert Fox vehicle
Sunbow did animate it for commercials for the toy and the comics at the time but it's really brief.
That device Cobra Commander was fighting for, is that from Ninja Turtles? It looks like something that Donatello came with.
Great review
Can we get more of your stop motion compilations please
Nice review

If you want to step outside the GI JOE line the best possible opposite vehicle the DEFIANT would be The Queen's Starship from Episode I .
Awesome
@formbx257. Can you speak in Chinese?
