That is an amazing finish, well done. I have some keepsake boxes from hobby lobby im planning to stain. Im not sure what type of wood it is. i just grabbed them... Will this stain be suitable? And is there any other steps to take to help the stain last longer?

Does it matter what color the sock is? Can I use old green socks or will the stain carry the color over

Is this oil based or water based stain?

You could put a plastic glove on and then put the sock over that too. Keep your hands stain free.
