Antiquarian currently is the most disgusting fight, next to the current end boss Her permanent spam of blight, protection and buffs/debuffs rips you appart when unprepared. I nearly whiped out the first time I fought her, the second time my tanky boi decided to take 4 crits in a row with 0% deathblow resistance :))))
That's funny how video game mechanics translate into story. Antiquarian was a character designed to get you more money. But you don't need money anymore, so there is no need for a character like that.
Also in the lore the antiquarian is everything but a nic person and while yes every character is morally grey the antiquarian was just a greedy bastard that sacrificed the one who taught him everything in order to get more power So yeah makes sense that when everything went to shit he turned out to be a villain
I think that would be an awesome fight to see. Maybe even some easter eggs or even a different outcome to the fight if you have a highwayman call Dismas in the party as well would just be so good.

Tbh antiquarian is underrated in dd1. Invigorating vapor spam is slept on. Literally just having 2 antis in a champion level slam invigorating vapors will make it comically difficult to hit you

I can see it, whatever happened at the end off the world made his control snap and he's a mutated full beast now. Face the terror a maddened abomination can bring. That said I'D love it even more if instead you have a chance to fight ANY f the champions you didn't pick for the trip instead with various backstory reason. That way we'd get a buffed Antiquarian as an ally too.

I really, really, really, like this boss fight. Ok not from a gameplay standpoint, i don't own the game. However, i absolutely love the implication behind it. The Antiquarian is probably the most hated character from the first game, so no one's going to mourn her being an enemy. However, it has an incredible implication: The game's in early access, and it doesn't have all of the characters from the first game. This fight sows a seed of doubt in our heads, telling us definitively that some people won't be coming back, and worse, some of them are... *but not as our allies*
Personal predictions of characters coming back as bosses: • flagellant in the sprawl, by himself, but his death blow resistance is off the charts. Unless you have characters with "ignore death blow resistance" actions, it'll be super tough to put the guy down. • vestal in the tangle, now zombified. Target her first if you want any chance of winning. • abomination in the foetor. He can transform back and forth whenever he pleases. The little gimmick where the party gets stress relief when he changes back will still be present.

When I figured my MAA was going to deliver the deathblow, I knew it was going to be with a shield in her face. Also if I have to fight Reynauld in any capacity, I'll make sure that Dismas gets the killing blow.

well the antiquarian's job in DD1 was to get more gold in runs, while she herself was more of a weak hero..so it kinda makes sense for her to be not playable in DD2?
She was defo mainly to farm gold, but honestly post lv 0-1 she was an unironicly good support hero if you built a team around her. Her heal is passible to get people off DD, protect me is nuts with a riposte user and her blight has great accuracy + omni reach to finish things off. Her stuipdly high speed makes it all work and makes her one of the better de-stealthers with flashpowder.
I have a feeling she's probably going to become an unlockable secret character down the line when DD2 gets more fleshed out and when we have access to all the confessions.
I want to belive that characters related to the Church returned to help save whatever was left of their religion or that they are pernamently dead. In case of Antiquarian, its fit her character. She was evil from the start. She never cared for fate of the world nor her commrades, she just wanted artifacts from the estate.
I was so genuinely sad that this rules out Anti as a character for this game. I loved the fact that they still continued her story, but she was absolutely one of my favorite characters in the first game. Reynauld and Baldwin are awesome too, but I just loved Josephine.

Lore wise maybe we could theorize that the arbalest and the musketeer sacrificed themselves to kill the heart of darkness from dd1 but that leaves îs with one bonus character that nobody knows what happened to, the sheildbreaker. Maybe they should make a interable curio with her like a shop or something.
I was personally hoping the Occultist was going to turn evil in this game, to see him overtaken by the eldritch beings he made deals with and changed. And the Abomination losing to his bestial side.
What if there was a difficult way to recruit her for later runs in this battle? Maybe to recruit her you have to put her on death's door before any other enemy (very hard to do 'cause of the guards) or when she's the last one standing, put her on death's door but go the rest of the round without damaging her, then with some sense beaten into her, she comes back around and retreats. Either as a hero who ensures you earn more loot from doing everything, or as a more passive encounter later on to maybe receive a gift or trade with.
as the game is added to, and more stages of grief (the thing you select when you start a new run) are added, the world around you will change, possibly in significant ways. Successful journeys to the mountain (progressing the stages of grief) may cause the events that made the antiquarian this way to be undone, returning her to normal and bringing her to our side.
Leave it to people to ditch the game in its early access as if it's fully released. I've seen plenty of complaints about a "lack of content" like....seriously

In the actual version, when you kill the Antiquarian it does not say "Deathblow" instead, her figure just fades away...
I'd say it's safe to assume that we will fight more "fallen" classes.
