- One of the most underrated games in all of sports history that deserves more recognition. The Colorado Rockies, after completing one of the best end-of-season runs of all time, finally end their two-decade long postseason drought with one of the most inspiring and incredible comebacks ever. They would then go undefeated in the NLDS and NLCS, winning their first NL title in franchise history. Sadly, the magic died when they faced the Boston Red Sox in the World Series, and they were swept.
The title of this video is correct.
Holiday did one of the smartest things in baseball history. He didn't try to tag home plate after the ball dribbled away. Psychologically, Tim Mclelland called him safe as he wanted to get out of Coors alive.
I think he also rightfully chose not to ring up the runner on a ball that the catcher didn't even catch. No way to tell for sure if he did or didn't, but once it rolled away I think he made the right call.

As a happy but somewhat confused fan, the Detroit Tigers right now are pulling off similar things to this team.
Yea, the Pads got jobbed on that fateful call at the plate. McCLelland signaled safe before Barrett can put the tag on, so much for that. Bear in mind, the revised plate blocking rules weren't implemented until 2014, so Barrett could have literally sat on home plate with the ball coming and it would have been completely legal then. But even as Padres fan being real, who knows if Hoffman gets out of that inning holding the tie. He had nothing going for him that outing. If Holliday was called out, there would have been 2 away, Helton at 1st and Brad Hawpe at the plate with maybe less momentum. I guess it's all left up to the imagination.
No way to tell if he got some of the plate or not. I think McLelland calls him out if he hangs on, but once the catcher didn't even catch the ball the benefit of the doubt went to the runner. They didn't get robbed, they had a 2 run lead in the 13th and recorded one out.
Interestingly, the guy who was almost in big trouble was Helton. He was watching the play instead of advancing to second on the throw home. If Holliday is out, there are 2 outs and Helton looks like a dummy for not being in scoring position.
Rockies got screwed on the non HR call earlier.

It was well known that Hoffman hated Coors Field. Plus, he had warned up 5 times BEFORE he got in the game

He made the decision off of the fact that he stepped on his hand blocking him from his goal. He was right there and was denied home plate and in baseball, that's an illegal move. It's against the rules and it was rewarded because he actually had a shot.
@@Polarcap1This game was before that was a rule. The rule was created in 2011 to protect catchers from getting barreled into by base runners after Buster Posey broke his leg on a Sac Fly collision. Before that, catchers were allowed to block the plate by any means necessary (unless it was obvious and could be called interference).
the catcher did block home plate, made it Impossible for him to score.
