Isn’t it sad that there will never be an atmosphere like this again. Notice how everyone is watching the game. There isn’t a ton of fans with their phones up, faces behind their screens. Everyone is watching and excited. What an atmosphere. I’ll never forget it.
Been to playoff games, nobody is on their phone in a extra innings game like this between division rivals. Unless of course you’re at a dodgers or Yankees game, all their “fans” care about is making sure everyone knows they’re there then leaving in the 7th inning
@@yerrrrr2787 unfortunately going to a Yankees or dodgers game and staying a full 9 innings means you get home at 2am. Try working or having kids up that late before you talk shit.
Yeah everyone for Game 7 of the 2016 World Series was on their phone. Are you kidding? No one was doing anything else besides watching that game. This still is very much alive. Pipe down, boomer.
For a moment, I thought you had it confused for his changeup when I read your comment. But that was his fastball.... After this 2007 season, Padres didnt sign Hoffman as he went to the Brewers, and they instead made Heath Bell and his power fastball their new closer. Bell did great in this game against the Rockies as well
They didn’t have replay back then, and it’s really not possible to tell in his hand did scratch the side of the plate, but he got up to tag him and when he was going for the tag, the Padre’s catcher saw safe and didn’t tag him. And let’s not even talk about the 2-run HR the stole from Atkins in the 7the or 8th. Padres fans say if we had replay they would have won but with replay and Atkins’ robbed us of 2 runs. Rox would have won 8-6 in 9 innings!
This was one of the most exciting moments of my life. Notice how much players’ hubris has changed? Like when Hairston hit the go ahead HR in the 13th he rejoiced but not like players showboat today. You watch players today and they have one minor offensive knock regardless of the situation and they’re flashing signs back to the dugout, showboating, acting all crazy. And they’ll do it in the 2nd inning. Oh well I’ll always love baseball regardless of how spoiled the players are today.
@@Shawn6751 You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, and I would never wanna be an angry grandpa running around, complaining about how how the players show boat….but they could take it back a few notches, like there’s no need to jump around flashing signs when you hit a 2-out double with nobody on in the bottom of the seventh when you’re down by 6 runs. Save that emotion for when it makes sense, or else you just look like a showboat.
I partially agree with you - for instance in the NFL the showboating is atrocious. You caught an 8-yard reception in the 4th quarter of a game you're losing by 42 points, stop bragging. But honestly with bat flips and showboating in baseball the idea is hopefully it can generate more interest in the player's personalities and rejuvenate a fan base that is older than all other major sports. I'm with you though, it can be dialed back (especially when games aren't on the line or at non impact moments).
@@JackieDaytona1776 I’m all for anything that brings in fresh fans…but do they have to be so ostentatious? Players hade a code of manners where you just didn’t do that shit, if you did it would seem like a message and someone might have a ball thrown at their head which is ridiculous anyways, the helmets they have today are soooo much safer, and we didn’t have all that body armor. But I’m not a proponent of throwing at someone’s head. You could kill them or end the career!

funny how it seems like if the Padres had used anyone else in the 13th, given how the Rockies had been held scoreless for multiple innings, they would’ve won
Hard to believe San Diego put peavy out there for 6 innings and gave up 6 runs. That would never happen today. Maybe it was because the game was back and forth.
