  • In this video, we'll share practical tips and strategies for effective crop management, including the latest research on genetic resistance, cultural practices, and post-harvest management techniques. We'll also discuss the use of fungicides, their effectiveness, and proper application techniques. By adopting appropriate management practices, growers can reduce the risk of infection and minimize the impact of mango anthracnose on their crops, ensuring a healthy and sustainable harvest.

Mango anthracnose is a fungal disease caused by the pathogen Colletotrichum gloeosporioides that affects mango trees and fruits worldwide. This disease can cause significant yield losses, reduce the quality of the harvest, and even lead to the rejection of fruit in the market. In this video, we will discuss the causal organism, symptoms of the disease, and various management strategies that growers can use to minimize the impact of mango anthracnose on their crops.
Causal Organism: Mango anthracnose is caused by the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, which infects the leaves, twigs, and fruit of the mango tree. The fungus can survive in infected plant debris and soil, and infection typically occurs when the spores of the fungus come in contact with the plant. Once inside the plant, the fungus grows and spreads, causing lesions on the leaves, twigs, and fruit. Infection can occur at any stage of fruit development, including during post-harvest storage.
Symptoms: The symptoms of mango anthracnose can vary depending on the severity of the infection. Initial symptoms may include small, dark spots on the leaves and fruit, which eventually enlarge and become sunken. The spots may also develop a yellow halo, and the infected tissue may become soft and rot. In severe cases, the fruit may become completely covered in lesions, causing it to become unmarketable.
Management Strategies: Effective management of mango anthracnose requires a comprehensive approach that includes cultural practices, post-harvest management, and chemical control. Cultural practices such as pruning, spacing, and removing infected plant debris can help prevent infection, while post-harvest treatments such as hot water immersion and fungicide application can reduce the risk of disease. In addition, the use of resistant cultivars and the application of fungicides during fruit development can help control the disease.
