In 1776 South Carolina, widower and legendary war hero Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) finds himself thrust into the midst of the American Revolutionary War as he helplessly watches his family torn apart by the savage forces of the British Redcoats. Unable to remain silent, he recruits a band of reluctant volunteers, including his idealistic patriot son, Gabriel (Heath Ledger), to take up arms against the British. Fighting to protect his family's freedom and his country's independence, Martin discovers the pain of betrayal, the redemption of revenge and the passion of love.

The way the priest handed his rifle over to Gabriel that's what I call a COD move!

Man, those reload times are impressive😂
A good rifleman can fire 3 shots a minute, that's only a 20 second reload time.
@@sabrewolf4129 now that's soldiering
They reload times were often exaggerated. Good soldiers could reload in 20-30 seconds and get off 3-4 shots a minute. Not sure why movies make them look so slow to reload.
How many ram rods did Tavington have it shows it throw the rod after every reload lmao 🤣
The muskets and flintlocks are ridiculously accurate throughout the whole movie, but Gabriel somehow completely misses from 10 feet away lol
He didn't miss, he wounded Tavignton but that wound was not enought to kill him
@@1996koke and this is why we double tap
Tavington was sadistic but he was no joke
Didn't realize muskets were so accurate especially in a melee
Now you know something new. 😎
If a musket’s loaded with shot they don’t need to be as accurate as a rifle, just as accurate as a shotgun. Since Gabriel’s guys were militia, they’d have been bringing whatever weapons they had at home, which could include rifles.
From 50 feet, it’s a lot easier.
As close as they were, it isn't that hard to hit your target.
I believe these guys are using a miss of muskets and Pennsylvania rifles. The rifles for rangers attacks and muskets for closer range. But yea this is as realistic a fight as a WWE cage match. In truth this would be a single volley from both sides then a melee. Most shots would miss and the melee would be way more brutish and confusing.
Gabriel was no match for Tavington. Being high on pure white hot rage can only get you so far. You still need skills and experience.
It’s because of plot armor. Could’ve shot him when he was laying down. But then, the final revenge wouldn’t have been as epic for the movie.
The 1st time i watched this, I had a feeling Tavington was playing dead when Gabriel walked up and tried to get him.
And you know what? He surprised him with that yell and struck him with his sword.
Tarelton he was a devil Daniel Morgan clipped his wings at cowpens
Basically the same strategy that they used at Guilford court house put ur militia up front and ask them to get off 2 shots and retreat and run them into the regulars
Sadly this is true
Glad to see Gabriel got his revenge! Happy ending!
and one minute later....
Brilliance. Pure brilliance.
Love this movie overall, especially the deadly accurate to 100 yards flintlock pistols.
A Smith & Wesson upgrade no doubt.
Those shots were not 100 yards, they were close range. 100 yards is a football field away. Plus, firing into a crowd grouped like that, you are bound to hit something.
From horseback at full gallop no less, sabrewolf if you think the first shot from horseback was at close range then I'm worried about you.
@@Delogros Have you ever served in the military? I'm guessing that is a no. Firing from horseback is just timing your shot, not firing wildly or blindly. Muskets actually have a pretty good range for their time and were fairly accurate when properly aimed, just as is any firearm. The only difference is you only get 1 shot. And yes, as depicted, the shot was at what would be called close range.
I saw someone on Holdfast hit someone at 300 yards. He started screaming on VC.
yet if the reverend didn't support the melee duel next to him and focused on the gun on Tavington, he could of shot him as he was one stage ahead of Tavington in the musket reloading
Highly doubt he can match a clearly experienced dragoon in hand to hand combat, especially when the dragoons especially specialize in it
Especially Tavington/ Banastre Tarleton
“Hollywood Logic “.
Those were loyalist dragoons(besides tavington) Gabriel was in the army for a year or two before he comes home. I'm assuming they are a loyalist regiment based off that one dude who was a loyalist put in tavingtons ranks, so it's fair to assume they would have a similar level experience bc they took the kings call to war around the same time as Gabriel took the call to arms by continental army.
He didn’t though. What are you talking about
Hmm didn't know British dragoons specialized in hand to hand combat? Thought they were primary horse mounted infantry? Interesting.
Regardless, they were caught off guard here. So even if the dragoons were better combatants the Americans had the element of surprise.
Tavington killed 8 guys in this scene. Impressive
That's part of what makes this such a great movie. The villain and the hero are so evenly matched.
And he did it causally on his way to Gabriel too! 👍
Then Gabriel gets stabbed by Tavington when he thinks he is dead.
He broke the cardinal rule of engagement- never approach your fallen enemy until/unless you're 100 percent sure he's dead. But Gabriel wasn't in any shape to think straight, was he?
@@tatianalyulkin410no he wasn't.
Ha! The clip ended just before the best bit.
Im telling you Malfoys dad did a pretty good job as a Dragoon. Harry would be quaking knowin how Lucius lived with Muggles loyal to the King George during colonial america.
Lucius Malfoy can use sword wow
He would make a pretty decent live action version of Sephiroth.
NASA scientist and 'smartest man in the world'
When the reverend was there with Gabriel you know they weren’t playing anymore.
Good job.
It would’ve been great to see Mr. Wilkins selling out Tavington to Gabriel and his forces
The dragoons we're very trained with swords
were
Yes they were. They were trained to be what we would call nowadays the Air Cav. They’re meant to go into a battle hard and fast, set up and fight like hell using carbines, pistols and swords. They’re meant to be a Jack of all trades. Cavalry and infantry rolled into one.
And this is why you always double-tap.
01:36 - Col. Tavington throws away his ramrod. Where does he get the second one to reload?
Well he is a wizard right?😂
No seriously, it’s just a continuity error on the filmmakers part. The ramrod throwaway is supposed to look dramatic and cool. Nobody looks cool putting a ramrod back in place under the barrel. Mostly because you’d have to look down and actually focus on the task taking away the cool factor.
And the Colonel is the last standing Victor eventually right guys!
Gabriel outweighs Tavington and has a reach advantage. His rifle can also strike from a much larger distance than Tavington's pistols.
but Tavington is an officer and a gentleman
@@Xian-dd3sl Officer, yes. Gentlemen, no. He's called the Butcher for a reason.
@STEVE P that's pure slander. He did nothing but enforce His Majesty's peace. Everyone he fought were violent rebels or collaborators. Furthermore, he always maintained an impeccable sense of style at all times, even in battle.
Tavington's pistols would have smooth bores.
@Moko Arlyana So would've Gabriel's musket, hence why he missed, the militia had the advantage the rifled muskets but rifled muskets take longer to reload as you gotta force the ball down a little more.
Hope i have the swagger of the priest at that age
Aux armes citoyens!
He could have easily apparated when he saw them coming, but he stayed to fight.
The GeneralTavington looks like an English teacher!
NASA scientist actually, in Armageddon 😁
@@roelmd8907 Actually that's the Death Eater, Lucius Malfoy.
Dragoons vs Militia and it boils down to a 1v1......
The Hollywood effect!
Well, they are able to snipe people from affar with regular muskets... and even with pistols! XDD
Mel showed his son how to fight. He got an inch sloppy and Tavington stabbed him. Great scene. Shows that Mel's kids weren't afraid of the English. Heath you became the Joker with this battle. Mel had to kill Tavington. You at least put a good solid scare into him.
What you on about Rob? Joker got nothing to do with this movie.
Robert you need to get a life. 😂😂
British.
Scot’s Welsh and Irish too
Wow, something you dont think about these days, the reload was so long about 1min or less if you were faster, that you would have to have extreme focus and not get choked in the middle of a battle, when you opponent was standing a short distance away and you were both racing to reload.
Tavington mush had an infinite number of ramrods to be tossing them aside like that.
Gabriel’s revenge
1:18 those looks 😳
❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
should have approached Tavington at his head. not his feet. Same way you check a deer after it's down.
No. You just don't lower your gun/rifle/whatever. A simple rule- like Elle Woods' about perm maintenance. 🤣
When Joker fought Lucius Malfoy
When you look at William and see Lucius and otherwise 🙈😍
The priest lateraled that musket like it was a football!
Poor Gabriel never got revenge for his brother and wife.
He did. He was on the battlefield with his father that day.
Gabriel wasn't slain just by Tavington's arm but by the evil taste of vengeful pride that he wanted to impress his father.
Um no. He didn’t want to impress his father dude. His wife was roasted alive like a thanksgiving turkey by these bastards. He wanted to carve up Tavington because he wanted the man who took his brother and now his wife, to suffer for what he’d done. Don’t know where you’re getting this “he wanted to impress his dad” schtick from. Hell if anything he’s been flat out antagonistic towards his father from the word go.
nope, his wife was just killed by being burned in the church by tavington and his men.. his thirst for vengeance is what got him killed, yes but not to impress his father..
Jesus H. Christ! Can the lucky devils who know bubkes about real wars- especially CIVIL WARS- just stop commenting??? You're so NOT helping.
Tavington plays dead and stabs Gabriel with his sword.
The sky is blue and grass is green. Look mommy I pointed out something that happened on the screen can I have a cookie?
We all saw the movie dude.
Made the mistake of not tripple tapping his enemy
Man...
Just listen to the background music
Even if Tavington did win in the end, that would have been a horrendous wound, especially then.
Probably would have died of gangrene a few weeks layer.
Don’t worry Sam Neil dismembers him in space
Then, after getting killed in the Revolutionary War he returns as a US Army Ranger Captain.
I still want him to play Rokossovsky.
Joker vs Undertaker 😂.

If only they had 249 saws back then
I can't believe a Death Eater killed Odo.
And Odo played the priest in M.A.S.H.

Dammit it was supposed to be a easy fight but they had to make it difficult. I could take them out with a WW2 Mosin Nagant if I brought that back in their time. I'll just be Ghillied up on the hill picking them off one at a time. Tavington would definitely be the first to go. Heck if the colonials had the Sharps rifle they would dominate those Brits
Ataque muito mau feito. Deixaram a raiva prevalecer na razão,era só flanquear os ingleses e tava feito coisa
He knew he was dead, should have slid down the sword and cut Travingtons neck
So you're mounted on horses and have caught a bunch on soldiers on foot, and the first thing u do is dismount about 20 meters away from the enemy and charge them on foot, and you're a bunch of farmers v elite dragoons. movie has the be one of the worst ever
