Gimme sympathy is the first song I heard from metric and it’s still my favorite. So you can only imagine how happy I am to hear this cool alternate version.
"You wear your halo well, but your halo's at your ankles, at your ankles with your panties, your panties are a pot of gold, gold at the end of the rainbow"
What a surprise this video was! I like it. But I love the released one too. Maybe the next cd should have this "other" version... call it 'Give Me Sympathy II'. Amazing!
I completely agree; i went and saw them in concert the other week and they used "here comes the sun" version without the bridge. I didnt even realize it was a guess who song they were making reference to but I thought the shes come undone makes more sense lyrically with the story of the song
This is interesting just to see the evolution of the track. This version sounds like 3 songs sewn together going by the tonal changes. The final version is just so much tighter and cohesive.
This version's lyrics are better than the other version, but the other version have better instrumental. I would like to see a hybrid combination of the 2 versions
oh I love emily, she's so soo directly descended from god! haha and she's so nice... this is my favorite song of the new album 'til now... hope "give me sympathy" becomes a single!
I thought this was the official version of the song for the longest time...then I bought Fantasies and was seriously disappointed. This version is so much better than the final one! :(
It's interesting to hear how the song changed as they worked with it. This is a lot like their very early stuff, very "pop" with the upbeat tune and backup vocals. The song as finalized on the album is much more consistent in style between the chorus and the verses, fits their newer style, fits the album better as well as being much more memorable, but this early effort is certainly interesting.
so different from the album version except the course. i like both. their music speaks for itself if it can be played in a mellow version and an electric version and and they both sound wicked.
Thank you for the compliment.... it just so happens that I am fortunate enough to be an exeptionally gifted person and yes, I do bring myself alot of joy (multiple times a day!!!).
There's a picture of Emily at a show with a light behind her that looks kind of like a halo, and then you see me and a few other people in the audience looking up at her except I have the goofiest fangirlish smiley face on. So yeah, God-like.
modest mouse, arcade fire, silversun pickups, brocken social scene, stars, yeah yeah yeahs, cat empire, or, the white stripes. There all my faveourite bands, if you like indie rock you would proabably like any of those bands, but metric still is proabably my faveourite band
Did this song morph a lot before the current version or what?? Wow! Really sort of cool to see the metamophisis of a song over time. Totally different on Fantasies... and I think they made the right changes. A better song now.
emily haines is directly descended from God. no argument. this will probably be one of my favourites in the new album. it's so catchy and easy to listen. great melody, especially in the chorus
god.. i would have given my kidney for being there!! and the guys who could be there dont appreciate it... that sucks... METRIC ROCKS!! EMILY HAINES ROCKS EVEN HARDER!!
I just realized that they may have totally taken out the "She's come undone" reference and changed it to "Here comes the sun." for the album version. I love this song either way but I really prefer the "she's come undone" one, especially when she sings a little part of it during the bridge. Emily plz keep the Guess Who song!!!
I consider this version and the album version to be two completely different songs. Both of them rock in their own way.. although I think I like this one a bit better :p
@salmon372 I have seen many of the myspace concerts pieces up to now, and after becoming a great fan of metric i must say: this audience ist shittier as hell :D but for sure: metric will rock on!
@vitalogst this version still has you're gonna make mistakes you're young... personally i like this version a lot better. much prefer the she's come undone 's over the here comes the sun 's. and the feeling is a lot different. i like most of the fantasies songs live over the album versions, gotta say.
actually I love this better than the album version. and whatever you say.. I LOVE THIS SONG the way it is! and I don`t think saying this makes me less devoted to her. your statement doesn`t make you love emily better than we do... that doesn`t make any sense. After all I respect your opinion about the song, we cannot all like the same tunes...
The whole band, especially Emily, seems to be disappointed with the audience... half of them look like they should be at a T.I. or Justin Timberlake concert and they other half look they should be at a Fall Out Boy show. A great band wasted on this crowd!!!
Gimme sympathy is the first song I heard from metric and it’s still my favorite. So you can only imagine how happy I am to hear this cool alternate version.
Old school Metric was bomb. New school Metric is even better. They can't go wrong.
And they just keep getting better
Oh wow what a great version
They should put out the whole myspace show on DVD and CD. I would buy it.
This song is absolutely amense. Every day I find myself watching this video so I can hear this song again. God, I love metric =P
first time i ever heard this band was at the V festival in toronto... they played this song....saw them again in NYC...webster hall...can't get enough
Best Version. Heard it in high school, before it was cool.
That's awesome! I've been raving about them since the olden days too!
"You wear your halo well, but your halo's at your ankles, at your ankles with your panties, your panties are a pot of gold, gold at the end of the rainbow"
Are you me?
I agree completely that Emily Haines was descended from God, dude. Thx for posting!!!
What a surprise this video was! I like it. But I love the released one too. Maybe the next cd should have this "other" version... call it 'Give Me Sympathy II'. Amazing!
love this version, the final one feels more polished but this is great.
This is the best version of this song by far.
This is definitely going to be my favorite song on their new album.
hahahaha then you found out this song was completely altered
This is definitely the best version of the song
I completely agree; i went and saw them in concert the other week and they used "here comes the sun" version without the bridge. I didnt even realize it was a guess who song they were making reference to but I thought the shes come undone makes more sense lyrically with the story of the song
I love this version too.💯
I can't wait to see them live. I've been listening for a few years heard about them on NPR out of all places
Pretty cool... I like the sample in the middle from The Guess Who - Undun... they all come back around sometime...
Awesome version!
I agree this sounds better than the official version.
Its more like the Metric I have come to know and love.
They should release this as "Give me Sympathy Part 2 (The Hooks)" or something :)
oh I love emily, she's so soo directly descended from god! haha
and she's so nice...
this is my favorite song of the new album 'til now... hope "give me sympathy" becomes a single!
Allez bébé, joue-moi quelque chose!
I LOVE YOUR WORK, METRIC!
I thought this was the official version of the song for the longest time...then I bought Fantasies and was seriously disappointed. This version is so much better than the final one! :(

I love her °°
i completely agree with your video description.
Hola Mau del futuro! llevas escuchando esto 10 años, te veo en otros 10.
i know. i ADORE them. she signed my t-shirt.
so different from the album version except the course. i like both. their music speaks for itself if it can be played in a mellow version and an electric version and and they both sound wicked.

i want this version too.
noo dankedu bist die beste
Omg. Love this song and Metric. Emily is my hero. Also, rofl 1:14 Chyeeaah.
emily haines is directly descended from God. no argument.
this will probably be one of my favourites in the new album. it's so catchy and easy to listen. great melody, especially in the chorus
Watch the whole show at Myspace, Hey Play This! at ua-cam.com/users/view_play_list?p=424BF72873F830A6
YES SHE IS.
god.. i would have given my kidney for being there!! and the guys who could be there dont appreciate it... that sucks... METRIC ROCKS!! EMILY HAINES ROCKS EVEN HARDER!!
Woo, that's really different (except the chorus) from the version that they released officially. It's good.
I just realized that they may have totally taken out the "She's come undone" reference and changed it to "Here comes the sun." for the album version. I love this song either way but I really prefer the "she's come undone" one, especially when she sings a little part of it during the bridge. Emily plz keep the Guess Who song!!!
I love this version, its sooooooo much better than the one they released on fantasies.
This version is so much better, I wish I were one of the people in the audience. They look like they don't even like Metric! I'd be FREAKING out.
wow this is so different!
sweety voice
This song really changed! Still sounds good of course.
True! It's fundamentally a different song now!
i agree!!!!
Im really jazzed about this song and this is only the second song I've heard
bahaha.
amazing, and very true.
much better than the album version.
agreed!
noo danke
i like album version :)
@whatnobodyknew I absolutely agree!
Totally agree, however, it does fit better with the rest of the album now
I think I like this version more than the one they actually released.
I consider this version and the album version to be two completely different songs. Both of them rock in their own way.. although I think I like this one a bit better :p
I like the feel of this song, but I still prefer the final version cause it has a slightly sad feeling which fits with overall msg of the song.
I'll be another 1000!
"give me sympathy"... totally
Hopefully this song turns out to be called "Give Me Sympathy" rather than "The Hooks."
"who would you rather be.....the beatles or the rolling stones" damn this chick knows how to write some lyrics
sweet! how did you manage to have her sign your shirt??
@salmon372 I have seen many of the myspace concerts pieces up to now, and after becoming a great fan of metric i must say: this audience ist shittier as hell :D but for sure: metric will rock on!
@vitalogst this version still has you're gonna make mistakes you're young...
personally i like this version a lot better. much prefer the she's come undone 's over the here comes the sun 's. and the feeling is a lot different.

panama by cat empire is amazing

1:21
@GinnyT06 i think she is the only one who can take down chuck norris
I think I like this version better.
I emailed them... So yes unless it was someone that answers their email, but it sounded like a band member. Either way, sad news.
God exists!!!!!
mos def
Dude, it's "Sophie Marceau" and she wasn't in the book, the character was, Sophie is an actress. Also, Emily has no likeness to Dakota Fanning.
More. Hooks that a Hooker........should be the title ;-)
lol
lol i agree with pyro... The audience looks DEAD! Almost bored out of their mind!
now thats different..lol..cool tho
gimme sympathy is better title
this song is way worse than the album version
The whole band, especially Emily, seems to be disappointed with the audience... half of them look like they should be at a T.I. or Justin Timberlake concert and they other half look they should be at a Fall Out Boy show.
A great band wasted on this crowd!!!
She is SO awkward 😂
I asked. Sadly no :(
agreed!
