I was weighing over 230 pounds at 5'11" two weeks ago and I decided that it was getting a bit out of hand, so I started working out again and intermittent fasting. I have currently lost 9.2 pounds and I'm hoping to get under 200 by the end of the summer
Edit: I appreciate all the kind words of encouragement, this community has been overwhelmingly positive. I felt like I would give an update to my weight loss this summer. At the end of the summer I am sitting at around 213 pounds, which is a loss of around 19 pounds from the start of the summer. I didn't quite hit my goal of getting under 200 by the end of the summer, but that being said I hope to get there soon and think that my progress this far has been fantastic. I feel happy and healthy and hope to continue on my weight loss journey. I don't know how many people are going to check back in for this update, but I thought I might as well send it out anyway. I lost 25 lbs as a teenager. I have maintained the same weight for the last 7 years. That decision to loose that weight when I was 15 was one of the best things I did.

@@DevinGreenBayit takes time prolly months if you have a slow metabolism but the easiest thing to do is eat 2000 calories a day no more than that and do cardio at least 4 days a week or lift heavy at least 3 days a week

You are not "fatphobic" for saying being so overweight is bad. It is an issue when you insult them because they're "ugly", not because they are unhealthy. Telling someone to lose weight to be healthier is good, but insulting them can just cause anxiety and hateful thoughts about looks rather than thoughts about HEALTH.

I grew up in McAllen, so I never realized how bad it was until we moved away. Doctors that live in McAllen are so desensitized to people being overweight that I was considered 'healthy' but I myself am also considered overweight. I've lost weight and am taking better care of myself, also adding in that my family has diabetes and heart problems, but looking at it now, McAllen does not help in weight loss.
That’s crazy because I go to McAllen a lot (I’m from Laredo) and I don’t feel like there are a lot of big people there. Maybe because I didn’t grow up there but I feel outside the RGV is more big but I could be wrong bc I didn’t grow up in RGV

i actually appreciate joe for not being rude to fat ppl. When I was 11 I was bullied by my classmates for being overweight. I was called things such as: cow, pig, fatty and other rude jokes made of me. This made me develop a ed for 2 yrs and made me suffer mentally. I was convinced that I would never love myself again. At the time, I ate under 800 calories a day and exercised daily. I lost my friends, happiness, menstrual cycle, hair, and body temperature. I was only 12 and I was willing to sacrafice my happiness to be thin. Im going through recovery currently and trying to love myself. I still feel guilt when I eat anything “bad” but I am way healthier now. i cant even describe the mental pain and suffering I experienced for so long.. I had $uividal thoughts and mental breakdowns daily as a 11-13 y/o. People need to realise “ jokes” can effect someone long term. Even now I still struggle to love my body
I’m currently going through the same thing and recovering from anorexia. I’m so glad you’re recovering too and I hope you learn how to love yourself and your body. I understand how hard it is, no one should be treated badly for being overweight as a child.

i suffered from body dysmorphia for years and still do because i've been doing ballet for 10 years. i'm almost 14. i'm around 117 or 120 and i convice myself every morning i look obese. so hearing joe talk about how it's okay to have chub really helped me try and get through this mission of being comfortable with myself. coming from a 13 year old girl with jody dysmorphia, thank you joe. like, genuinely bro.

I've always grown up in a big body house hold. My parents are big and my siblings are as well. By the time I turned 19 and been able to by my own food. I broke out of that system. I signed up for a gym, ate healthy. Now my mission is to help my family break out as well.

I used to be overweight. I'm 6'1'' tall and I weighted over 240 lbs. I wasn't feeling confortable at all and I hated when people made fun of my tits (I'm a male). I always had extra clothes on me so nobody could see any kind of tits shape on my shirt and I never dared to go to the pool shirtless. I was tired to be that insecure so I decided to do some change.
I've been doing all kind of exercices like boxing or running. Every day, I ran 5 km, sometime 7 or 10 if I feel like it. I was even skipping meals because I was convinced that would mess all my work up. I was starving myself so things can go faster. 500 days later, I weighted 171 lbs. The lightest I could be was 165 lbs. Now I weight 177 lbs.
What I want to say is that you don't have to be ashamed for your fat. I did all of that because I was fat-shaming myself and this is not the best kind of motivation we can have to start training. It's okay to be fat as long you don't destroy your own life. It is important to maintain a good balance of lifestyle. Overweight people can also be healthy if they don't always eat trash. A little exercise would be nice too. If you want to change and lose weight, go for it! But don't starve yourself as I did. Whatever you do, be careful and most importantly, be happy!

when i was like 13 or 14, i was on a diet, because i was fat. so, in a month, i lost 8kg (around 20lbs). i am still fat now, but that made me understand that it is posible to loose weight, so soon i will go on a cut again, but this time i wont stop until im shredded ( im 16 now and i also hit the gym regulary)

I ate a lot as a kid and I noticed and started to eat less and in a single week lost 7 pounds and that gave me the motivation to keep working on getting healthy
During the struggle I lived off McDonald’s free burger receipts. After some point I started eating two burgers as if my body wasn’t satisfied with one. In actuality I was not nutritionally satisfied so I kept feeling the pang of hunger. Dark times.

Fucking props to Mark & Tyler for making the fire vid. I'm trying to lose weight to better my life too. But I currently can't, because I have cancer. Got diagnosed in March 26th, 2023. And have been fighting super hard and had this issue with a girl I really liked which my fight so much harder. I was amazing to her, but she lied to me and felt like she didn't respect me. Which is crazy cause she was so nice to me during my tough times. I was there for her on her dark days, made her smile and laugh. I bought her flowers and got her favorite drink to make her feel better. But then she talks to other guys and leaves me on read for weeks. And ghosted me and lied to me about liking me. I felt so empty and darkness, so hollowed out. but Its been a lot, and I've also had 6 surgeries so far. I've lost about 28 pounds so far mostly from being NPO and most of the time, I was on liquids diets for weeks. Its also been been a tough year, I lost my friend and my grandpa to cancer too and my dog also passed away from a tumor in his brain. Its scary to know that so much time can be ripped away from you. I've been through a lot in my life and I've hated myself so much and that hatred build up inside me & I was terrified, But that changed when I found out I had cancer. I'm doing micro workouts but for very little time cause my body cant take it. But once I get better and beat this, I'm going to workout and better my life. Ima be honest I think cancer and the girl crushing my heart along with the deaths this year is one of the toughest obstacle and challenges I've ever had to go through. But I have god, my family, my friends, my motivation and hope. I get so excited when I know ima get better so I can improve my life around. Its always better to be positive and motivated, cause if you aren't, it just makes the journey and fight so much harder cause you don't believe in yourself. Love yall and Love you Joe.

Have u tried liquid fasting for 2-3 days or intermittent fasting? It helped lotsa peeps with weight issues

I’ve since I’ve been home, but I did do liquid fasting in the hospital. When I had my surgeries which is 6, I was npo for a lot of them. And 4 of them got delayed because the surgeon was late or had more people for surgery. And I think the longest was 4 days. I dropped 26 pounds in the hospital. I gonna add it to my diet. I’ve lost 11 in the last 4 weeks since I had an appointment with my oncologist. And she said I can do micro workouts. So I’m eating healthy, moving, working out a lil, and I’m try fasting too. Thanks so much for the help.

Another contribution to American obesity has to do with food insecurity. Food insecurity is the condition of not having access to suffiecient food, as those who suffer it may be families going through a tough financial time. With struggles of money, it is hard to meet basic needs such as food. Since junk food availible at places like McDonalds are low prices, it is easier to buy as an everyday meal. Overtime, vegetables and fruit in America has been meeting higher prices, thus making it harder for those who don't have much money to purchase.
Healthy weight loss foods like grilled chicken, broccoli, white rice, oatmeal, bananas, peanut butter. All dirt cheap in comparison to fast food. The value meals are about 8-10$… that’s about what I spend in a day to bulk as 6ft 190 pound male.
The most expensive item I listed is chicken. I eat 12 chicken breasts in 6 days and that’s only 25$. Vegetables frozen 12$. The rest of the stuff is very cheap. Throw on some peanuts or cashews or avocados for healthy fats… it’s not expensive, you just feel like it is because you don’t pay per meal.. plus you might feel tempted to eat out really often because your body is gonna freak out for about a month after you start eating right. Takes a month or two for things to level out with digestion..

Along the way you’ll make friends, and possibly even find love. But only the strong can handle the pressure life will sometimes put on. That you saved yourself from death, proves your strong enough to make it. Don’t cut your life short. There’s still so much for you to see and do. Look for the bright side on things, and try to make the most out of your life. Sitting down and watching UA-cam all day definitely isn’t the healthiest thing to do. Make memories. Go outside. Try to have fun, and you’ll see that life isn’t so bad, so long as you don’t make it. Love thy neighbor says the Lord. I love you. God loves you. There are many other people who love you. You matter.

I am 14 and at the beginning of the last school year I weighed 250 lb. Now I’m down to 178 lb so 70 pounds down. Just remember to start today cause it is possible. You are the only reasons you are fat and you are the only thing that will make you fit again

I have parents that never really teached me healthy habits at a young age, mostly feeding me fast food and other junk without much thought. Soon enough i reached age 14 and i was severely overweight. I never payed much mind into my diet and food but when my friends came up and told me nicely that i should take care of myself better i took it seriously. Support of other people is really important in these situations and i wouldn't have made ot without some people that gave me advice, helped me to feed myself better and and even workout. Now at age 17 I'm doing well, normal bmi and in good condition. Fat people shouldn't be shamed but helped and approached with care by loved ones, and obesity is an issue that has to be taken seriously. Joe has W takes.

Was quite overweight for a bit in my childhood, I think I was a good 95 pounds when I was 11 & 4’10, which isn’t overweight by much but for some reason I still felt insecure, and so when I was 12 I decided to start a workout routine. I neither gained or lost weight for over a year after that.
