@VegaswithShin Coffee Flavored Cake would likely be called just that, 'Coffee Flavored Cake'. Coffee Cake is a generic term that usually means unfrosted breakfast cake, usually cinnamon flavored, but can be blueberry and/or lemon, sometimes with a crumble topping. As someone else mentioned, it's meant to be enjoyed with coffee, thus the name.
I love your channel.❤ You describe the dishes so well. Money is never an issue. The dishes you select always look so good. Thanks Shin…Great video. Bravo!🎉
The modern day American Coffee Cake generally contains no coffee, however it once did, and outside of the US, coffee cake does contain coffee, and in some places it would be illegal not to contain coffee is it is called a coffee cake.
I think what's throwing me off is that I've had coffee flavored cake called coffee cake. What would you call a cake flavored like coffee? Like how we have coffee ice cream, etc? Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin A bakery should name a coffee flavored cake something like "espresso cake" so as not to cause confusion. I would be very surprised, but delighted, to find a coffee cake that was actually coffee flavored.
Hey Shin! It's great to see you tasting some food from my part of the US (Ohio) Derek Stevens the owner of Circa and The D downtown is from Michigan hence the name Saginaw for the deli. At home potato cakes are something served for breakfast lunch and dinner. Parts of the Midwest was settled years ago by and had a LARGE influx of people from Germany, Italy and Poland. Potatoes are as much a meal staple to us as rice is to people from Asia. If you would been alive to visit Cleveland, Ohio during the 50's and 60's you really would have loved the restaurants there. Thanks for another GREAT video. I'm getting down there this week, thanks to you!
I still can't get over how descriptive your reviews are! You really know your stuff. There are so many bad food bloggers out there with only 2-3 adjectives in their arsenal, such as "awesome" or "spicy!" They need to check out your videos!

Hi Shin! Love your reviews!!! As a Jewish person - for future reference- challah bread is pronounced HA-la (emphasis on the first syllable) and coffee cake is meant to be eaten WITH coffee - not flavored with coffee - so that was a pretty normal coffee cake- AWESOME review as always!
At first I was against this spot because of the hours for the cocktail shrimp . I Miss the way the golden gate casino served the shrimp specials for decades . Tell Derick to bring back mermaids casino 99 cents deep fried Twinkies and Oreos menu etc . The only reason I ate here I used the club one players card points for the free meal I got the Rueben and onion rings . Another great review Shin .
So many tasty offerings, and for me it would be the meat loaf and sides. Sometimes I wonder if off-strip food isn't better than on-strip overall, and it certainly seems to have more comfort food vibes. Your evaluations are succinct and spot-on as always, which is why I try hard not to miss any of your shows, Shin; thank you for the pleasure.
There are a lot of great places to eat off strip that rival their strip equivalents. The only area where the strip cannot be beat is the highest end, top of the line fare. No one off strip is getting real bone in Japanese kobe and stuff like that. I'm glad you enjoy my videos! Thanks for watching!
Hi Shin. Thanks for another great review. The meatloaf looked great. I would have thought the pastrami would be great there but sadly even by the looking at it didn’t seem appealing. Have a great weekend. See you Tuesday! 😀
The meatloaf was fantastic. The pastrami wasn't bad, just not amazing. I thought the corned beef in the popper was better. Maybe a corned beef sandwich would have been the order to try. Thanks for watching!
Hi Shin, thanks so much for your totally honest evaluation here. There is more negative than positive for me... keeping in mind that a wonderful Jewish deli is such a treasure to experience. Thanks for finding out all the items worth trying. Your very kind with your summary here.🍴❤

Another nice review, Shin. Btw, a coffee cake is an old-fashioned term for a cake to be eaten WITH coffee-not a cake having coffee as an ingredient! But you’re too young to know this, so you’re forgiven. 😅
In Germany we often enjoy what we call Kaffe und Kuchen. It's an afternoon treat (between lunch and dinner) where we have coffee and some cake, or pretty much anything sweet. Can be an assortment of cookies to a pound cake, or even a fancier torte, like Black Forrest cake. We often would go to a bakery and pick up different pieces. My mom would cut the pieces in 2 or 3 portions, and we would have each multiple little desserts. The buffet restaurants dessert section always reminds me of Kaffe und Kuchen from back home. But sometimes my mom just would bake one kind of cake and we had that.
I think what's throwing me off on that is that I've had coffee flavored cake before called coffee cake. What would you call a coffee flavored cake? Thanks for watching!
It's confusing because technically both types of cake are coffee cakes. This one is definitely more of a drink with coffee and you could even have this as your breakfast. A regular dessert cake with coffee in it might be called mocha, or cafe or espresso cake, but it may jus also refer to it as coffee as being on of the ingredients. The one you had can have lots of flavors too cinnamon, blueberry, apple..
Disagree. Coffee cake if your from east coast has a thick layer of crumbs on top and can be enjoyed for breakfast or dinner dessert. Never knew anyone that dipped into coffee. It's just a figure of speech..
I've had coffee flavored cake called coffee cake so I think that's what throws me off here. What would you call a coffee flavored cake? Thanks for watching!
Our Mom always made potato latkes with cinnamon apples 🍎 and sour cream for Halloween 🎃 dinner (not sure why) but it was nice to see you enjoying those!
Oh no Shin, I am so bummed to say that I stayed at Circa and thought twice about going to Saginaw’s Deli and didn’t end up going. Great video and I’ll remember that for when I’m staying in the downtown area again. See you Tuesday!
Lots of great restaurants in downtown for sure. I wouldn't go out of my way for Saginaw but they definitely have some tasty stuff. The pot pie or meatloaf would definitely be my meal of choice also. Thanks for watching Diane!

You were too cute about explaining coffee cake! It is called coffee cake because you eat it with coffee. The sour cream is added to the batter to add richness, not to necessarily taste it.
Thank you for the review, I want to visit this restaurant when I head out to Vegas in November. It looks amazing!!!! Have you had a chance to check out the Diner Ross in the Linq, I want to try that as well.
I haven't been to Diner Ross yet and now that F1 construction has started I try to stay away from the strip for a handful of weeks. I'll have Diner Ross up as soon as I make my way back to Las Vegas Blvd. Thanks for watching!
Hi Shin. Look forward to your reviews twice a week! We're stay downtown 5 or 6 times a year and usually eat there once. The chicken salad is good, and I love their chips with the Russian dressing! Would love to meet you on an upcoming trip!

Growing up in Philly I have experienced classic delicatessen fare; Saginaw’s pales in comparison. Deli concepts like this have to be graded on a curve as I’m sure they don’t have generations working in the back at Circa😂🤷🏾♂️. Great review👍🏾
Definitely. While the general audience will find good enough food at all hours of the day here, true Deli afficionados will likely not be impressed. Still had some good food here though. I might go back for some more of that meatloaf. Thanks for watching!
Hello Mr Shin! You’re always gracious with your reviews! I wonder who eats your leftovers - but I will have the leftover meat loaf with green beans and mashed potatoes! It looks delicious!🤣🤣🤣
I’m a big sucker for Latkes. Looks like a decent place. How were the pickles? The meatloaf looks fantastic, I hate ketchup on meatloaf, so the gravy looks yummy.
I totally agree with you that if the tomato sauce is sweet I will push it away, I like it with a salt taste instead. When I make a tomato/marinara sauce no sugar at all.
Yeah, a little sugar or baking powder is necessary to take away that metallic taste from canned tomatos but some times the sugar goes overboard. Thanks for watching!
Looks good. Do they have a create your own sandwich? I remember my Grandmother making potato pancakes when I was a child & we'd always eat them with apple butter (a Southern thing) and they were so good! I always love your detailed reviews. You are amazing Shin!
I had the Reuben sandwich there and it was fantastic. The prices are high but you get what you paid for. I like that you can get whatever you want late at night.
❤RyeBread ❤MuensterCheese ❤ANiceVinegarForwardSideSalad ❤Latkes - I know them as kartoffelpuffer, they included grated onion in the mix, and we always ate them with applesauce. One of the best foods I remember as a child, rouladen as well... I'm surprised that a Jewish inspired deli restaurant would offer a lasagne.. And, where's the chopped liver?❤ It overall looked like nice food, you wouldn't leave hungry at all.. Kudos to the employees working the night shift. Much love to all. ✌️❤️😊🍀
Those latkes were really tasty. I liked them alot! I think it's more a Jewish inspired Deli than a very traditional one but it feels like anyone should be able to have a good meal here at all hours of the day. Thanks for watching!
Aloha Shin! I really wanted your opinion on the matzo ball soup and some other jewish-deli staples. Most of those dishes were not up to snuff, but the saving grace were the latkes! Mahalo for the big bites and big words!
In retrospect, I definitely should have tried the matzo soup and potato salad. It was counter service so I didn't get to think it through as much as people behind me were looking to order each time. Thanks for watching!
I've gotten a fair number of comments mentioning that but I'm curious what you all call a coffee flavored cake? I've had several coffee/espresso flavored cakes called coffee cake so this one threw me off. Thanks for watching!
I wonder if the cheese that they use for the fried cheese sticks is the same type of cheese used in the Greek dish Saganaki, which is a flaming cheese dish. It kind of looks like it. The types of cheese used for Saganaki can take a lot of heat and don't melt very easily which is perfect because it's usually set aflame and then brought to the table. One of my favorite Greek appetizers.
It's possible. I'm not entirely sure what cheese they used but it did feel like it could take some high temps as it wasn't super melty in the fried stick here. Thanks for watching!
It wasn't bad, just not incredible. Circa is higher end on Fremont Street though so it would have been nice to get something a little more premium. Thanks for watching!
Doesn't look too bad. I'm pretty picky when it comes to pastrami sandwiches and that one doesn't look too bad. I would definitely would like to try the ruben popper and the meatloaf. The coleslaw I'm going to pass on since I like more of a creamy and acidic coleslaw (which personally, I love WinCo's coleslaw)
Popper and meatloaf would probably be my order here off camera. The best reuben sandwich I've had so far in Vegas is actually at the Mirage though I haven't been to a lot of the best known places. WinCo's slaw is good for sure! Thanks for watching Jerry!
Jewish deli with their best dishes being meatloaf and chicken pot pie... ugh. For that price point you'd expect the pastrami on rye to be exceptional. LOL that shrimp pasta needs to be removed from the menu. I bet the chef forgot how to make it. Nice vid shin.
Oh Shin, you do make us laugh. Coffee cake is a pound cake with cinnamon. It's served with coffee and hence the name. You should re-visit the Jewish experience with Oscar Goodman. He's a legend there in Vegas and could really help you to understand the traditional food.
I think what confused me is that I've had several coffee flavored cakes that were called coffee cakes before, but I love learning. I learn something from the comments section almost every video and I'm always down to gain more knowledge. I now know what this style of coffee cake is!! Thanks for watching!
I wouldn't call the menu "a typical Jewish deli lineup". There is Clam Chowder, Shrimp Scampi, Ham Sandwich, and Italian Sausage Lasagna. Looks like Meatloaf and Chicken Pot Pie would be what I would go for. And maybe the Rueben Poppers, depending on what oil it was fried in.
Looked forward to going to Saginaw’s after seeing reviews on UA-cam after they opened. I was disappointed ib the traditional deli sandwiches. Unlike most of the Jewish delis that I have been to, I thought that the sandwiches were pretty skimpy on the meat, especially for the price. Not the best sign that the things that you thought were good were grilled cheese, garlic bread, and meatloaf. Lol.
They weren't amazing but they were okay. Deli afficionados will not be impressed I imagine. But the general population should be able to eat here just fine. Thanks for watching!
The service charge is what I chose to tip, so yes, that is standard for any restaurant in America I think. If you do the math, it's not some extra fee if that's what you thought. Thanks for watching!
Great review. Those Reuben poppers were a favorite! Coffee cake generally doesn’t have coffee in it. It’s mostly meant to be enjoyed with coffee.
The poppers were so good! I've had coffee flavored cake before. What would you refer to that as?
Yes coffee cakes generally do not have a frosting.
Thank you. I didn't have to tell him about the coffee cake.

Hello Mr Shin! You’re always gracious with your reviews! I wonder who eats your leftovers - but I will have the leftover meat loaf with green beans and mashed potatoes! It looks delicious!🤣🤣🤣
I eat the leftovers over a few days after filming lol. I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching!
@@VegaswithShin haha! Glad to hear you eat the leftovers and doesn’t go to waste!🙏🙏🙏
I’m looking forward to your downtown videos!
Thank you! I like not dealing with strip traffic lol. I hope you enjoy the series!
Going to be trying those poppers next time around !!! Those look fantastic.
The poppers were really tasty! Thanks for watching!
I’m a big sucker for Latkes. Looks like a decent place. How were the pickles? The meatloaf looks fantastic, I hate ketchup on meatloaf, so the gravy looks yummy.
The pickles were solid. In general I thought they made some good food here. Thanks for watching!
yes i use both if available must be hot temp rye bread sandwich
OMG! I didnt knkw your background was Korean. I am half-Korean 100% Canadian :)
We're connected! Hello Canada! Thanks for watching!
ty for sharing
Of course Claire! Thanks for watching!
They don’t mess around with the portions in this place. I had a fried chicken dinner plate there that I could barely finish.
I was thinking about the fried chicken dinner. Good to hear that it's big! Thanks for watching!
I love Jewish deli food! I’m sad you didn’t try the potato salad, it’s one. Of my fave sides. Chicken pot pie is ❤
In retrospect, I should have tried the potato salad and the matzo ball soup. Chicken pot pie was soo good! Thanks for watching Lucia!
@@VegaswithShin I only use San Marzano canned tomato. I can't go back to the regular canned in my city.
Looks good. Do they have a create your own sandwich? I remember my Grandmother making potato pancakes when I was a child & we'd always eat them with apple butter (a Southern thing) and they were so good! I always love your detailed reviews. You are amazing Shin!
I'm actually not sure but I think they would let you build you own. Potato cakes are really so good with that sweet element. Thanks for watching Ruth!
I had the Reuben sandwich there and it was fantastic. The prices are high but you get what you paid for. I like that you can get whatever you want late at night.
The 24 hour menu is really enticing given how many less places are open all day now. Thanks for watching!
❤RyeBread
❤MuensterCheese
❤ANiceVinegarForwardSideSalad
❤Latkes - I know them as kartoffelpuffer, they included grated onion in the mix, and we always ate them with applesauce. One of the best foods I remember as a child, rouladen as well...
I'm surprised that a Jewish inspired deli restaurant would offer a lasagne.. And, where's the chopped liver?❤
It overall looked like nice food, you wouldn't leave hungry at all..
They have a fantastic noodle soup-- perfect for a late night nosh.
I'll have to try it next time I go! Thanks for watching!
👍🤠
Thanks for watching Vickie!
Good video, just to let you know coffee cake doesn’t need to taste like coffee. It is a cake that goes with coffee.
I've gotten a fair number of comments mentioning that but I'm curious what you all call a coffee flavored cake? I've had several coffee/espresso flavored cakes called coffee cake so this one threw me off. Thanks for watching!
Do they still do the Shrimp Cocktail??
I don't believe so. Someone else in the comments mentioned they don't have it anymore. Thanks for watching!
Matzoh ball soup is the cure all
In retrospect I definitely should have gotten it. It just slipped my mind while I was up at the counter. Thanks for watching!
easy mix boil split and bpo; ise non salt and boil fra,e p bbq chicken or can soup and watr or broth
Hard pass ! Thanks Shin for the heads up ! ❤❤
Happy to save you the trip!
The Shin Shirt ❤❤
Always!! Thanks for watching!
Looks a bit lackluster for Circa that place was top notch when I was out there
It wasn't bad, just not incredible. Circa is higher end on Fremont Street though so it would have been nice to get something a little more premium. Thanks for watching!
What time was this? Meats looked dry. Thanks again for the review! Sue
Started at 2pm, last receipt at 5pm. Thanks for watching!
I think imma need to stop by for at least the chicken pot pie 🥧
I hope you like it if you try it!
The cheese sticks are halloumi rolled in flour and deep fried 4:25
Yes! I learned about halloumi cheese a bit later. Good stuff. Thanks for watching!
Best tuna melt west of the Mississippi
I'll have to try it next time! Thanks for watching!
🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Thanks for watching!
Looks decent but I say we save our money for Golden Steer! 🎉
Not a bad plan at all! Thanks for watching!
Jewish deli with their best dishes being meatloaf and chicken pot pie... ugh. For that price point you'd expect the pastrami on rye to be exceptional. LOL that shrimp pasta needs to be removed from the menu. I bet the chef forgot how to make it. Nice vid shin.
Some misses here but I think most people can find something decent to eat 24 hours here. Thanks for watching Chubbs!
Ohhhh myyyyyy guess where I'm eating after the partay
I hope you like it when you do!
I wouldn't say I'm an aficionado or anything so if I see matza ball soup and sandwiches, that's my low bar lol. Thanks for watching!
What kind of cheese was in those sticks?
Turns out it was a halloumi cheese, a semi hard cheese with origins in Cypress so a little more of that Mediterranean influence. Thanks for watching!
Yqw buddy ❤😊
Two words …. Siegels Baglemania.
I'll definitely be making a video there for sure in the future. Thanks for watching!
Those prices are outrageous for the small quantity served.
I'm happy to save you the trip! Thanks for watching!
it's not Hal / lah bread it's Hallah...one smooth pronunciation
I'll work on it. I only learned in the last few years that it's not "ch alla" bread lol. Thanks for watching!
I noticed there were separate bills for each set of meals. And with service charges for each bill?!? Is this standard in all of Vegas? 😳
The service charge is what I chose to tip, so yes, that is standard for any restaurant in America I think. If you do the math, it's not some extra fee if that's what you thought. Thanks for watching!
