    “The other left”... 🤣 That’s what I like about Captain Chris... not mentioning his skills, of course. Good video as usual...

      All of us were rookies when we started boating. As a trucker, I have to remind myself of that every day. Some drivers are just painful to watch at truck stops and loading docks.
      Don't get me wrong. I still have my bad days too. I got my Class A Chauffer's License (before CDLs) in 1980. Been doing that a while. I'm used to maneuvering large equipment. But, a boat handles differently than a truck. So I will be learning all over again.

      And we all started at the beginning. Most of us didn’t have a camera on catching our every mistake and hesitation. Good luck with your adventure.

    Shows the importance of having the guidance of an experienced captain, has to be one of the best investments to make when new to boating.

    Don’t you have to rudders straight to make the 360 turn etc. Having them in a different position will affect the manoeuvre ?

      its a twin engine so you can spin without steering input

    Why is it nobody ever looks astern when helming?
    Even bimbling (an English euphemism) along down the harbour there’s invariably someone keen and in a hurry trying to pass you. More importantly impinging on your self imposed 50 metre “bubble of calm” that you keep around you.
    Happy New Year 👍🏻👍🏻
    Oh yes, I love the casual way you point out to the poor guy his plotter is out of date. I did chuckle, my note was that he was way too far zoomed out for it to have been of any help. But as you pointed out - the view out and the plotter didn’t align anyway. A latest copy of the Navionics App on the instructor’s phone for “just in case” purposes is the way to go.

      This was early in his training when most new owners are hyper focused on just one part of the task at hand. I had his 6 😎 Happy New Year!

      @@AskCaptainChris don’t worry I’m not knocking it 🤓🤓.
      Just a question, had the skipper driven any RIBs, smaller power boats or even sailing dinghies? It really did look like his first time on the water in anything!

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  3 роки тому +2

      You are correct. He had never owned any boat and thought it would be a good idea to get some training. We concur. More new owners should consider it. 😎

    0:12 This is the reason we use port and starboard.

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  Рік тому

      Use whatever works for you and whatever terms you and your crew have in muscle memory so communication is clear. That’s the most important safety tip for pleasure boaters. Port and starboard are sides of the boat and are often terms that new boat owners are not familiar with. Most of us have grown up learning right and left as directional information and even at that we occasionally must throw in “your other left” 😎
