'At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can' - this is one of my favourite quotes from Frida Kahlo and it kept me going at my darkest hour. I love her story, personality and art. Thank you for making a video about her!
What a strong soul. I have serious health issues and I'm in and out of the hospital 6-8 times a year and I can't imagine what kind of misery she was in. For her to continue to see the beauty of this world while having such pain was a testament to what an amazing human she was.
See this is why I love this channel 1. People complain that they've never heard of the person in the video but when you don't know who it is your in for an amazing story, not to say that biographies on more established figures are bad cuase you get to learn new things about them. 2. The way some of the historical figures "interact" with each other like (i.e. otto van bismark & Napoleon 3rd) is great. I mean the fact that leon trostsky and Freida Kahlo not only met and crossed paths but had a friendship is fascinating and yet another reason you guys should do timeline videos where you go more in depth on events surrounding multiple individuals

+1000 To point No.1, I can't tell you how often I've watched a video on this channel where I first said, "Hmm, never heard of this person." Then, when the video is done, I'd go, "How the hell have I never heard of this person??" When it comes to Frida, I only knew her as "that artist with the unibrow." Had no idea until now how interesting her life was. Grade-A badass. Makes me want to see that movie.
More artist. Vincent van Gogh, Georgia O'Keeffe,Rembrandt van Rijn, Salvador Dali, H. R. Giger, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Paul Jackson Pollock( jack the dripper ).GREAT vid!
Yes please ♡ I would add Botticelli and Mucha to the lot, but only because they are personal favourites tbh. Keep up the good work, this has literally become my favourite youtube channel ☆
This may sound a bit superficial and silly, but I was gifted two sofa pillows with paintings of Frida Khalo by Frida Kahlo on them. I knew her name in passing, but after owning these pillows I had to look deeper into who she was. I went down a Frida Kahlo rabbit hole, and boy did it go deep. This woman was truly something special, and what a life she lived. I may not be on board with all her politics, but I respect this woman as much as any other human being that has lived. Good to see her get a Biographics video, she earned it.
That is not superficial or silly at all.! I think it's such an incredible thing to have something by her. I always loved the style she adopted of the tehuana women of Mexico, who were very strong, dignified and graceful. Wearing her long skirts with embroidered petticoats and flowers and ribbons, with ancient mexican jewelry with the shawls and bright colors just made her an iconic figure in her own lifetime. It is amazing that even though she did not sell much during her life, she was never overshadowed by her much more famous husband. He had tremendous respect for her art and never tried to influence her in any way, encouraging her always to be herself. I think they loved each other with a deep trust in their loyalty to the others art. Living together was something else.... I would live it if you can reccomend any other books on her that I might have missed. I've only read the one put out around the movie...

The strength of that woman was admirable to say the least. No wonder she is the role model of so many people around the world (myself included). One of my favorite videos on your channel, makes me even more proud to be female, reminds me of all the brave sisters who have lived and created on this earth. You did a really amazing job and did her spirit justice. In my opinion, she needs to be even more famous and widely known! Thank you!
I saw her paintings at an exhibit in Boston. I remember running towards them yelling it’s Frida!!! I was so excited to see her paintings for real. She is eternal.
Someone who can express herself in such a striking way despite her physical agony inspires me. Her work is not just original, it"s almost otherworldly.
FANTASTIC! Kahlo is one of my all-time favorite personalities of the art world. This is the best short documentary I have viewed of her very complicated life. The 2002 movie "Frida" with Salma Hayek is great with Hayek, also Mexican, doing a mesmerizing portrayal of Kahlo. I own the DVD & watch it to remind me of the passion & power of her life & art.
Thanks for finally presenting the beautiful and complicated life of Frida Kahlo. Her self-portraits stood out for me when I first saw her works at a university art class. Maybe soon we can see Queen Elizabeth I, Tsarina Yekaterina the Great, Anne Frank, Jane Austen, Amelia Earhart, Hannah Reitsch, Ching Shih, Anne Bonny, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Valentina Tereshkova, and Sally Ride.
I saw the 2002 movie, 'Frida', starring Selma Hayek and it was incredibly good. I was so impressed and intrigued by her that I bought a book about her. She was an amazing woman.
A complex woman pulled through life by pain to quench an unquenchable desire to live and artistically express life. Beautifully fully human. Thank you for including her in your library. May I suggest Madame de Pompedour?
Frida is one of my favorite artists. I love her tremendous contradictions and her passionate individuality. Her biographies paint a picture of unbelievable suffering and determination. Living in the beautiful Mexican influenced city of San Antonio has given me a much deeper understanding of the culture and artistry of the country. The language, music, food and art reflect the heart of Mexico and its people. Frida is everywhere here, and always inspires me.
Respectfully done and touching! I don't even read the thumbnail when you put content out and no matter who it is, your presentation makes me want to know more about the subject. Thank you so much for what you do!
This video was my most favorite ,Simon. It was a joy to watch. She and her art are beautiful, love to Mexico and Thank you for making this biography, and the best channel on UA-cam 👍😁
Frida is the greatest artist that is, was, or ever will be in my opinion. I was sceptical of this video because her and her art are so near and dear to my heart but for a general overview it was informed and respectful! Excellent job and hope to see one about Diego as well!
@@rhijulbec1 An interesting contrast; one Marxist apologist inspired a huge dog-like statue above ground in Chicago, while another Marxist apologist inspired the decorations of countless tunnels and freeway support columns.
The 2 Frida's symbolize the two worlds that were part of her heritage: the german/proper lady attire (not innocence) & the mexican/folklore attire (that not even mexican women of higher society wore, as they donned europeanized clothes). One of the things that made her so different was the fact that she adopted the indigenous traditional clothes & jewelery, something not at all common in the 'fine' mexican society. It was part of her worldview of being proud and showcasing Mexican heritage rather than adopting european traditions (in painting, in clothes, in food, etc.). She broke from the current and it's what made her so iconic. I love Frida! Great vid!

We visited an exhibition of Frida at the Dali Museum in St Petersburg a few years ago. Just last evening I began reading another Kahlo “biographical” on her. I love her work and can identify with her life and her pain. ¡Viva Frida! ❤️🇲🇽 ❤️
I also attended the exhibit at the Tampa Museum of Art which was before the exhibit at the Dali. They were both outstanding. The V & A has done an exhibit on her clothing and even her makeup. She was a role model for many Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. What is the title of the bio you are reading?
My nephew and brother have birthdays 2 days apart; my nephew was born on Easter and both have Easter birthdays from time to time. For their birthdays this year, the family went to a Frida Kahlo/Diego Rivera exhibit at the Albuquerque Museum. It was amazing!

As a Mexican, I do not share her Soviet political views (my grandfather suffered the religious antiCatholic persecution of the late 1920s), although I admire her courage to live on despite her injuries. Her art and sexual preferences raised huge scandals in the conservative Mexican society of her era; well, she's an art heroine since long ago, how times change more and more!
