So underrated man, i've just discovered you. I am probably the only man in Eastern Europe who covered Year Walk bit by bit in Russian language, and i was so amazed by the story that i couldn't get it away from my mind for a solid month, i was living and breathing with the story. As a mograph developer with a job in ad industry, i am really appreciating the animated work you have put into this video. Brilliant man.
Dude, this came out beautifully! Impeccable job! I think a key thing to mention is how the mechanics is rooted in the Uncanny Valley, where they are familiar, but something feels a little unnatural about it. A first person-side-scroller functions fine because we understand both frames from previous design trends, but having them both fused together makes the mechanical side of it feel a little out of place. So even the way the game plays is setting a tone that gets the player wondering what to expect; It is genius!
I knew I recognized the guy at 6:16 from somewhere. I didn't know you did a collab with this guy, I just subbed to him. Btw, do you have any new projects? Like uploading a new video to your channel? I love this kind of videogame design discussion.
This game will haunt me till the end of my days. The meta aspect of this game or should I say the second part blew my mind. One ambiguous thing I liked about it was the question it presented. Are we, as players of the game the Watchers that was mentioned?
Man, this is basically the exact same thoughts I had when playing through Year Walk. It was so phenomenal and stuck with me for days after. Great job! You always have such incredible presentation, and it ties together the video nicely. Nice FeralxPanda cameo too :P That was a nice surprise! You presented some awesome things here, like how the jumpscare signaled an end to an act, and brought you right back into the game. That's exactly what happened to me, but I didnt even realize it happened. Keep up the awesome work man, I love seeing your stuff!
It's been 5 years and to this date(august 3rd, 2021), the video quality still sustains itself and it looks like 2021 quality standards, if not better. I'm an a state of amazement with your works(wich I'm still watching, now that I discovered you, thanks to the Zelda's franchise) and I just have one word to say, since I'm almost wordless: _Congratulations_ That's all it came to my mind. A big hug from Argentina and as soon as I can get a job, I'll support you financially now that you have a Patreon account. Stay safe, put your mask, wash your hands and see you next time💙.
My first experience with Year Walk was on a long flight late at night last summer. Almost everyone was asleep and I just pulled out my iPad and started playing. I couldn't put my finger on what made it so different than other horror games, but this video nailed it! I've got to replay this again! Nice work as always
My god the production value in your videos is amazing! And the original music tracks really elevate your videos to a new level. It truly sets a new standard for video essays! I just discovered your videos but you'll go straight to my top list of favorite UA-camrs to follow :)
Thank you for making this. I really feel that Year Walk didn't get as much praise as it should have, and you helped me understand why and what I liked about it so much.
Great video! but *spoilers imcoming* I don't think one can really talk about the horror of Year Walk without addressing the two endings, which I thought did really interesting things with player-character relationships, and actually deliberatly made the game less imerssive in order to make you consider the actions of your character more objectivly, that is, with less investment in the world. I hope my english was good enough for me to express the idea I wanted. Again, great video!
Jesus, the production value is incredible! Raising the bar for content creators everywhere! EDIT: Watched the whole thing. Multiple chills throughout. Great music too.
Instant subscription! The aesthetics behind your video are absolutely beyond words, and how it blended seamlessly with your analysis and content is just perfect - keep making videos! And I would love to know more about how you produced these elegant videos too! You are an inspiration!
I'm 4 years late but god is this amazing, as someone else said, your mograph is really inspiring. Your use of sound, footage, the points you bring up, and the animations are all so amazing!!
Javed, love how you always connect your knowledge of game design with a vary passionate, childlike awe of what video games can do. Can't wait to see what other ideas you have in mind. Would love to see you tackle multiplayer games like Smash Bros or Mario Party as those aspects of game design have always intrigued me. Keep it up!
I can't wait for your next episode. you're truly amazing as a storyteller, narrator, editor. I can't ever look at content the same way now that I see how much work you put into your own.
Such a well thought out and beautifully looking video. It just oozes with professionalism. Keep up the amazing work as I truly believe that you have one of the finest gaming channel.
This is a video that is so well made I would expect it to have at least a million views, if not more... I am shocked it has so little, keep doing what you are doing man! People will catch on.
Dear Good Blood, your Year Walk letter just made me feel the very essence of what is sometimes referred to as "A labour of love". It is beautifully crafted and love IS the only proper word to describe both what it's about and how it was crafted. It, in turn, inspired me. This was my first ever contact with your work. I feel happy to have discovered your channel and I will gladly get to know much more of it. That red rectangular button was promptly bumped, so I'll be watching. Thank you and have a great and inspired day!
I said it before, but your channel should have more subscribers. Every bit of your videos' presentation, from personal thoughts to visuals to audio is really on-point.
Mayn, this is high quality content. Don't stop doing what you're doing. The only thing that is needed is recognization and you will dominate the youtube page. I've played year walk myself and i'm from sweden so alot from this game makes sense and it has beautiful mechanics. Incredible job man, subscribed! :)
No point in me repeating all the complements others have given you and trying to one up the previous praise other have said towards you, all of which still fall short. All I can say is, you have a new subscriber, please don't stop creating and telling your stories about stories.
Got about halfway through and had to stop watching, because the game looks wonderful and I hadn't really seen anything about it prior. I'll have to play it and get back to the video. I look forward to spending a couple cold December evenings with it.
I love your "love letter". Thank you. I feel like once you read the Journal all comes together, then the game is far more deep and 3 dimensional. It hunts you in so many levels. The Journal is a journey on its own, I highly recommend solving the puzzle. North of the mill, south of the brook.
Yikes, this was good. I played this game a year ago for a video on my channel, and i reallly liked it, but it certainly didn't hit me on this level. You definitely helped me look back on my time with the game in a different light.
Wow, I definitely didn't get the same thing out of Year Walk that you did. I thought it was cool but ultimately nothing too memorable. The presentation and aesthetics were nice, as well as some challenging puzzles, yet beyond that I can't say too much more about it.
I kinda get an extra life feeling and relatable moments in the game Årsgång (Year Walk) because I am Swedish myself. The only thing is that, Why didn’t the creator of the game had one English translation & one Swedish translation. It would be really nice since Årsgång actually is Swedish. Sorry if my grammar is kinda off, it’s past midnight and I’m really tired. I don’t usually check my grammar. mvh Therese Källgren.
You just earned yourself a new subscriber! I love the high quality you have on your videos and I would love to see you grow as a channel. Ill recommend you to my friends and hopefully it will help you a bit on the way!
Is it just me or do traits of this game remind me of Hilda (the show), something about every little detail feels familiar, it’s a type of aura that I recognize in both. But year walk is it’s dark side in comparison)
Sorry that thia game did not stick with me as much as it did you but i'm starting to see in a mich darker light so thank you you are my favourite media commentator
The best analysis I've seen of this game, thank you so much for sharing! Can't wait to see what else you produce. For those who are interested in the folklore of Year Walk, I'd like to recommend a published paper by Tommy Kuusela. It's a fascinating look into the roots of the Year Walk with some truly unsettling recollections by those who had taken on the Walk. You can read the paper or download it for free here (I promise it's worth the read and not some spam thing lol): www.academia.edu/9403910/He_met_his_own_funeral_procession_The_Year_walk_ritual_in_Swedish_folk_tradition

This video is almost 3 years old and it and the game are still masterpieces

Wow! Your way of communicating thoughts; the structure, the audio, the visuals, the motion graphics... superb! Very inspiring!
Keep the good work up!
I am loving the videos you are producing.
+LiquidDiamondd Thanks man. The videos love you too.

Thank you for making this. I really feel that Year Walk didn't get as much praise as it should have, and you helped me understand why and what I liked about it so much.
Your content is absurdly good. Keep making videos!
4.6k views seems unfair for such quality. Your work is amazing.
Greets from Argentina.

"the element of expectation..."
*2 one minute ads immediately pop up*
oh god really? I never put ads in the middle of my videos. I'll remove this
I got freaked out playing this game 4 years ago... I think I only got through half of this
FF18Cloud ooo dude you should finish it
I just got done playing, so dArn haunting good
What an incredibly good video !! This should be getting more attention than it is now..
Jesus, the production value is incredible! Raising the bar for content creators everywhere! EDIT: Watched the whole thing. Multiple chills throughout. Great music too.
My hometown looks alot like years walk town, creepy.

My gosh, Javed. The amount of professionalism in your video editing is unreal. AWESOME critique on Year Walk!

This video - this channel - is fucking criminally underrated.
I can't wait for your next episode. you're truly amazing as a storyteller, narrator, editor. I can't ever look at content the same way now that I see how much work you put into your own.
This is one of the most underrated games.
Such a well thought out and beautifully looking video. It just oozes with professionalism. Keep up the amazing work as I truly believe that you have one of the finest gaming channel.
Only for a Good Blood video would i watch something horror-related :D awesome as always.
Also, behold! Wild spooky Jared appears 6:24
+ThePhantomAid I read this comment just before he appeared haha.

could not agree more. for me the visuals really hit me in a deep place. very inspiring.
Hey dunno if your still active but this presentation is perfect. Great video and I hope you continue!
Binge watched entire channel and I feel like it was made for me. Never stop!
I love how this video didn't clash with the art style of the game. It was almost complimentary! Good job!
This video makes me feel like I'm eavesdropping on a conversation that i wasn't invited to

Year walk feels like an upgraded version of rusty lake games
Honestly this video is just as good as the game itself, great job man.
I love Simogo and Year Walk so much
I’m soo happy that there are people that loved this games the same way I did!! Great video!! Keep it up 👍

Exactly. This is amazing. I'm addicted to it.
Great video, if you haven't played the Wii U version of year walk though, you are really missing out. It's almost a whole nother experience
I fucking love you for making these videos. These games all had me shook. Now I know why
Wow, I definitely didn't get the same thing out of Year Walk that you did. I thought it was cool but ultimately nothing too memorable. The presentation and aesthetics were nice, as well as some challenging puzzles, yet beyond that I can't say too much more about it.
