as a graduate in 2021 and now in that post honeymoon period you hit every single note perfectly and its depressing that it stands true
i would if given financial incentive and a better healthcare setup would never leave Pakistan for any foreign country; there's no recognition of non training jobs in Pakistan, there's no concept of board approved vs board certified for those unable to pass fcps there's hardly any robust primary healthcare set up and family medicine set up which puts tremendous load on the tertiary care set ups, there no concept of out of social hour pay or even locums. the work hours in surgical specialties are inhumane( 1 in 3 call with post call duties) and the compensation is around 121k per month with an inflation rate of 41pc. adjusted for depreciation that's 300 USD and decreasing
whenever it seems like we have hit rock bottom we sink further into madness and the lets not forget the added stress from the media that is hell bent on making doctors out to be heartless pyschopaths

I totally agree...Pakistan is perhaps one of the few condition have significantly gone downhill in the last 10 years...hence I believe the best way to salvage the situation is to salvage yourself first by going abroad

I did my internship (housejob) in benazir bhutto hospital, rwp, one of the bigger hospitals of Punjab, and the conditions have not changed much from 20 years back, asidefrom maybe the provision of Electricity and other necessities, which are better now. Still a lack of professionalism, supervised and well guided training, extremely draining work hours and a pay that leaves much to be desired, and top it all off with the fact that even to get a training of this calibre, you'd still not only need to waste1-3 years (IF you get very very lucky enough to get the said job) in a periphery job doing GPship, and have strong contacts. Much better to move abroad if you have the resources for it.

Very well described. All these factors are relevant on individual basis. But looking at the flip side of the coin, a lot of doctors do go back to their native countries after finishing training + getting passports. They would have another set of factors or reasons for going back. There is always this feeling of “lost from the roots” among these groups.

I wanted to stay and work in Pakistan to improve the system. Firstly, your struggle starts from the house, no electricity, water, security. Secondly, When you make it to the hospital, the filth, rudeness and lack of professionalism, no sense of punctuality and above all the resistance to resolve even the smallest of issues is an absolute drain on energy. I struggled hard leaving my loved ones but to me the only way to look after my parents financially whilst developing myself professionally was obviously moving abroad. Again a huge compromise at a personal level. Even going back to Pakistan, I get a reality check at the airport, traffic, society seeing all the mismanagement etc..making it obvious the move is the way forward
There are people in Government whose job is to ensure well paid opportunities and jobs for professionals. Reality is for a middle income people, we neither have power or money to sustain the un necessary hardship in Pakistan and easier option is to move where we can help Pakistan from being overseas
