👋 I agree with a lot of you you both said regarding gender diversity. I'm a single mum to a 13 year old (she/they) and I have brought the kid with me to ATG (3rd time this year, absolutely livid that they have turned 13 and I had to pay for their ticket this year!) We have watched Pupil Slicer, Employed to Serve, Brutus, Svalbard, Mono, Emma Ruth Rundle, Gold, Liturgy, (many more) and it is important to me that I show them that women, gender divers & LGBTQ+ people exist and are successful in these heavily male dominated areas. Representation does matter but it shouldn't be done for the just for the sake of it. We went to Bloodstock when kiddo was 8, and watching my spawn jump around to Cannibal Corpse in pink glitter Docs is one of my favourite memories. And you are totally right, teenagers love Korn, Limp Bizkit & Slipknot. I cannot wait to see Korn with them in August, a real full circle moment, as the Untouchables tour was my first metal gig at 12. (this kid is also OBSESSED with Deftones, so if the stars align.........) I also would LOVE to see more women at gigs. I don't have many female friends (or male for that matter) who want to go to the gigs that I go to, and I would rather go on my own than not go at all. I have never encountered any bad behaviour at metal gigs yet, but I do always have my head on a swivel just in case and safe gigs for women and gender diverse people is so important. Gav, I went to Cvltfest all on my tod earlier this year and really enjoyed seeing you stage dive! I am (so far) at Damnation on my own this year, and I cannot wait!
Great Podcast lads! Been listening since the first few came out but I've admittedly been a bit quiet on the comments. Question: What do you think is the most mad/ eclectic pairing or sequence of artists you've had playing back-to-back at one of your festivals? For example, in 2017 at a festival called Field Day I saw the legendary poet John Cooper Clarke perform, and then he was followed by Death Grips immediately afterwards on the same stage. It was a mad juxtapositon but still somehow worked really well. Cheers!
Really late to the party catching up on past episodes today, but Lorna Shore would be the big heavy band for a younger audience that would fit Damnation. Like Knocked Loose, they had have to headline, but they would be the big one I can think of. Then you are maybe looking at putting someone like Brand of Sacrifice on the line-up with them. Both of them are probably best described at Blackened Deathcore. Shame about Chelsea Wolfe. She would have been a great headliner.
Great podcast! My 11 year old son is waiting in the wings (not very patiently) to get to 14 so he can accompany his old mum to his first Damnation. So between us we can provide one woman and one young person for your audience! 😂
So growing up me and my sister both had instruments. I played in the school orchestra she did acting at the little theatre. But eventually she lost interest in all that stuff and became a teacher, got married and bought a nice house. I still play music and haven't grown up, don't own a house and have fuck all to show for myself. So I think her not continuing with music or acting was the better decision.
Another good pod in the bag! As you say, at the level you're looking at bookings it's difficult to really skew strongly in one direction when it comes to gender as you're looking at the scene as it is - IMO the most positive thing you can do is to avoid artists with strong negative connotations (NSBM etc), as they'll actively drive away not only big groups of fans but in some cases other bands too. Fortress seem to manage that reasonably well and they're only booking black metal, so it should be easy enough for any other festival 😆 And as you are aware younger fans tend to be more progressive (Adam gregory spoke about this on a Hell Bent For Metal podcast ep I believe) so it's good business to bear that in mind too (as Bloodstock found out, ahem).
I love how after all that, James signs off with 'amazing' 😂
All the crossover death metal bands have a young fanbase. 2k stab wounds, gatecrepeer etc. All the young hardcore troops love it
Hell yeah, and they kick ass

Brilliant, the banter at 50 minutes ( amazing and band names) had me in tears!!😂😂
That was... Amazing
I can tell you now many many many people would watch any Biffy set at 2000 trees! Please 😍😍😍
Was the 2000trees podcast recorded and going to be uploaded? Just catching up after getting back
THE WILDHEARTS SHOULD HEADLINE DAMNATION...... :P well maybe not, but they are very, very, very good

The Gost recommendation was a great shout, I'm now an instant fan of their.

Amazing
Cyclical James
Olivia Rodrigo is pronounced 'Hayley Williams'. HTH.
(It's on old joke by now, but then so am I)
Belter as usual and fair play for still doing it while James sorts a festival!
