Awesome shots of the buggy and really well explained! Subbed
Yeah you make us want one now. Great content man!!!!!!
That was a very interesting 20 minutes, Rex! Great to see you working this buggy out and the running commentary was excellent! Love the buggy, it looks so cool but there are issues to be careful of as you pointed out! Thanks for sharing, dude!
Put some aluminum rims on it to make the front end a little heavier or at weight to the frontend. And change out those front wheels
Thanks Mark, I wanted to make sure you could see it drive in real time, as well as share the thoughts from Rex's head as he drives, very glad to see you here!
@@brianargo1659 Hi Brian, that sounds like something I could try for sure! currently I'll keep the wheels because of budget, but if I could I would certainly go for a set of dirt race wheels and tires just for handling purposes. in terms of weight, this is a very hefty model in comparison to many others but I'd guess that youre correct in saying if i add weight to the front end it would understeer less. thanks for the feedback and make it a great day! 🙏
Awesome footage! Looks like the brushless makes you and the car happier.
It does!, but not needed, I think 13.5 is plenty, and silver can can still be very fun
seems like a winner, looks like your getting it sorted out, several things affect the steering and push. id worry less about the rear toe and try putting a little toe in on the front, different front tires maybe. a soft rear can make it push, toe in the rear helps with squat and squat unloads the steering under power. anyway seems like your experimenting and will get closer, do keep in mind the 2wd cars will never corner like a 4wd.
That thing is a beast! I dig it!
Nice runs! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.👍😊
you getting one?
@@rexrcs waiting for it to arrive.. Any day now.😁
You kind of got off to a rocky start with this one! I am glad you are still liking it and I hope to see more of it! I have yet to hear anything about mine so I assuming it is not coming any time soon.
yea it wasnt smooth at all, but it was my fault, loose slipper, loose diff, and no consideration for gearing in the beginning lol. It's a hefty boy too i forgot to mention, I hope you get yours soon, you'll be able to see better that this is not the typical abs because you've basically got a museum there to compare it to
Thanks for making this video.
I reckon you need that spare wheel ontop for extra protection lol.
Loved seeing it in action on the dirt with the 10.5T.
Nice, thorough commentary on this Rex!
I’m tempted by this one but haven’t decided yet!👍😊
Under $300 is well worth it but over $300…you gotta want it, not super special, just special, i heard another version is coming?
@@rexrcs interesting!🤔
keep it on the shelf, too many people have broken it on their first run
Nice impressions Rex. Appreciate the honesty and review of the chassis.
Thanks for watching!
Hi there Rex, a very thorough and comprehensive testing session with the Tamiya BBX. Interesting content about the running in period of the buggy and what to look out for, in this practical insight to getting the BBX built and running efficiently. Great video. Best wishes to you and the family 😊
Glad you enjoyed it best wishes John
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Camel Yellow is perfect on the BBX. I may copy yours.
Nice running vid. I'm looking forward to seeing it run on a track. I like the design tbh.
Im itching to get on track but still dont have my car back yet
Good run with the BBX Rex,it seems like a very capable buggy👍
I cant wait it get it on track, thanks for checking out the video and leaving some feedback. 🙏
Very cool buggy. I definitely want to build one of these when the become available here in USA
That would be cool!
Great video, thank you.
Great video rex 👌 good luck with your modifications 👍
Thanks ck, no mods on this one, just driving for now. cheers 🙏
You have to use a waaay larger pinion gear than stock and get yourself a
Nice first thoughts and impressions, it did make some nice roostertails in that loose gravel.
Thanks 👍
26 Pinion and 11.5 Turn Carson Dragster Pro sensored turned out as perfect smooth with loads of power and it runs about 35 mph. Still nice to drive. A pleasure in any way.
yes after a few more drives, I think a 13.5 might be good enough. thanks for stopping in 🙏
I love the colour, a good vintage PS choice.
Thanks Gavin! im flattered to see you take the time for some feedback
Haven't had any problems with mine and have been bashing it for over 30 minutes on different types of terrain every day since I completed its build. I have put an intermediate brushless combo (Copperhead ESC, 7700kv Castle motor) on it and it's not exactly a tame car with that electronics but it's not showing any signs of fatigue and drives excellently well.
I didnt really have any problems, just didnt tighten the slipper or the diff enough, and in the beginning I had no consideration for gearing and put a high rpm touring car motor in an off road buggy, bad choice made by me. im happy to hear you are enjoying your BB-01! BBX GANG!
i hoped you said 30yrs but nah
Great video
my dude!
You are the only one to break this that I have seen.
it didnt break brad! just clickbait
Even though you ran through some issues, everything seems very accessible and easy to work on. With a few modifications this would be perfect. Motor upgrade 👌
Hi! I wouldnt even call them issues for real though, it didnt even break, just loose diff and loose slipper which is normal, driveshaft popping out however wasnt good but didnt actually break, my thumbnail was a bit of clickbait lol, thanks for stopping in!
The color is quite nice man. 👏
Thank Luke!
Hi Rex I think a change of tyres especially on the front would help cure that understeer on the loose stuff . You could try some thicker oil in the front shocks to stop it pitching so heavily on the front end. Have a look at the df03 spring tuning set that usually works well in a lot of Tamiya buggy’s. Keep up the good work ;)
Great tip! I agree 👌🤘 thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback
I learned in sim racing that if you soften the front springs in relativity to the rear springs it cases more oversteer
Yes to a certain extent, soft springs will allow the weight transfer, but if they are too soft, once the weight transfers, the springs are not strong enough to push the tire into the ground to grab grip
Tamiya made a bunch of 80s kids happy with this. This is about as fast we could get something like this to go back then with the technology available. However it is Tamiya. I always loved them but durability wasn’t their strong suit. Fun for parks and putting it together with your kid. Anything more and you’re rolling the dice.
"I always loved them but durability wasn’t their strong suit. Fun for parks and putting it together with your kid. Anything more and you’re rolling the dice." - What? Modern Tamiyas are extremely durable though?
no theyre not. not at all. @@xXYannuschXx
I just decided I was going to leave the BBX all Tamiya. So then as I’m trying to figure out if the 10.5T was going to be too much, along came this video… thanks!!!
Good choice!
You should explore a Traxxas Stampede. Every household should have a Stampede.
Og emaxx was My dream before i got any real hobby grade rc, a 4x4 stampede does seem like a great truck. Also need to explore the fazer and the associated on road, the list goes on lol
I find that these pseudo-vintage Tamiya rigs are more suited as shelf queens, as even light use can and often does result in failures. That being said my old Lunch box is tough as nails
Its a great buggy and there were no real issues, the broken title was clickbait lol sorry. a driveshaft popped out but it was easy to pop in and it happend from a strange landing off camera. the slipper clutch and diff being loose was a fault of my own. thank for stopping in, i think if this had a silver can like lunchbox nothing will ever break also
tamiya is a P L A S T I C M O D E L C O M P A N Y, say it with me, models, not rc cars, not racing cars, not child friendly, dont stare at it too hard or it breaks
its not clickbait if you have to walk home when it makes grinding noises, be honest here@@rexrcs
The exact same thing happened to me on my first BBX run, same side and everything.
Awesome sauce! I may or may not have one coming ( Self birthday gift )So I will prolly want to pick your brain for things like motor and gearing etc. 👍👍👍 Also, if the Holiday Buggy ( did you see my bash/ jumps vid with it?) can take a pummelling like that I am sure the BBX can no??
Happy birthday!
I want one!!!
You could add the ta06 rear gear diff (54471) with thick oil or a rear roll bar both will help rotate the buggy.. great video
Thanks for the tip!
@@rexrcs no worries. all the best. And again if you need scales or alignment tools I have a neat setup that would help boost your content
If it has the XV01 gear cover they bend ridiculously and never seem to seel . I do find most of my rwd stuff understeers on loose surfaces . I hope it does well for you Rex as having a problem child rc is a lesson in frustration in my experience. Good video mate 👍
interesting...the ta06 gearbox in a bb-01 uses an xv-01 gear cover... TAMIYA GENIUS PRODUCTION SYSTEM lol. thank you Dom 🙏
Waddya expect, it’s a Tamiya 😮😊
it didnt really break though lol, just clickbait
You could try Softening the rebound in the front shocks and or add a little bit of spring rate in the rear once it’s close you can turn the front in by adding or reducing rear sway bar. Basically you’re just trying to Slow and reduce the weight transition to the back so the front has more weight on it to grip
Excellent tips thank you
Perfect scale being durable , anything bigger they heavy and expensive and easy to break .
Great to see it on the loose dirt, i think a 10.5 is the most you would put one these, any more and its wasted 👍
Yes I agree
Also I was thinking about getting a DT03 chassis to bash by tamiya and putting a brushless in it
it seems like a nice buggy. I want a dt-03 so i can put shorter arms and make an open wheels retro race car
To be honest that was also my experience as a kid. My dad would epoxy it like crazy
hi Rex, in the video you mentioned you'd change into brushless. I'm interested in what you ultimately used for ESC/motor/servo. I'm a newbie at this and trying to get some recommendations on products. Thanks
After running a bit now, I think a good 13.5 sensored brushless with 25-27tooth pinion I think would be ideal. trigger control is the most important upgrade
If the dog bone popped out maybe you need some sponges either end of the dog bone
If you want, put a Hobbywing 1080 G2 combo 555 brushed motor
🙏
Just go up in shock oil in front to slow reaction it will give more grip overall.
🙏
Get a DN01 Zahhak. That’s the Tamiya 2WD that you just can’t kill (and maybe the only Tamiya that doesn’t break on a windy day)
Always been intrigued by that one! 211 and 201 also
@@rexrcs well those models are better but the problem is they are so expensive and that’s if you can find them. The Zahhak is less than half the price and once you buy the optional slipper you’ve basically got the same buggy in terms of the plastics
Did u by any chance land while on the trigger making the drive shaft pop out? Super cool little Rig
Hi, i think it was a very strange landing that happend on the other side of the jump, it landed off camera so I couldnt review it sadly
Now you need mb01.
i do...maybe wait for an R version though, I don't want to have to sell off the fiat body if i buy the kit. i like the body, but have no interst in owning one or damaging one driving it
If you want to compare this buggy to other 2wd buggies the Kyosho Dirt Master would be the one to test this against. What is interesting is the the Tamiya BBX has a ball diff but no slipper clutch. The Kyosho Dirt Master has a slipper clutch but no ball diff. I would recommend to make sure both of these buggies have both a ball diff and a slipper clutch too. Thoughts?
I dont think this buggy is comparable to the Dirt master per say, they are quite different, the dirt master is like a typical 2wd race buggy, meant for a track, and can be bashed. the BBX is more a modelers rc buggy, with capabalities to race. ball diffs are certainly better for low grip siutations as the balls allow for a great range of differential speed to either side but ball diff is finicky and loses its tune easier. gear diff is usually for higher traction but it much more durable and consitent, howver you are limited to the differential speed that the spider gears can achieve. a slipper clutch is a must if its available, i mean why not? you absolutely do NOT need it, but if you can do it, why not?
You know what is interesting about these cars? The Kyosho Dirt Master does include a slipper clutch but no ball diff. However , the Tamiya BBX includes a ball diff but no slipper clutch . You can buy an RB5 diff for the Kyosho Dirt Master and it will work. I was thinking equip both cars with a slipper and an ball diff and we can see how it works out. Thoughts? @@rexrcs
@@alfredyost7972 yes good idea why not, it shouldnt hurt the model, be sure to tighten up the diff and slipper because during break in period they may come loose.
Good call, thank you@@rexrcs
i think you might be overthinking things just enjoy and have fun
I am having a lot of fun thank you
Tamiya are toys, always were toys and still are toys in the 1/10th buggy world
Watch out for that tree and post Rex😂
🤣 they seem to jump out of nowhere right in front of me
I built mine and ran it with 2s lipo and 3500kv motor it’s slow as can be I have to figure it out . Doesn’t get out of its own way
Try a 23 tooth pinion gear
The BBX. A 17.5 brushless or 13.5 motor. Which is better suited ?
I think 13.5 over 17.5, more speed and more range of throttle
@rexrcs thanks. The BBX should be getting available in USA 🇺🇸 soon. Thinking about a SkyRC Toro 50 amp esc and a 13.5 motor in the new ride
No RRC anymore, after this disappointment with the BBX?
Looks like you're running lots of toe out in the front (GoPro distorsion?). When fully into a corner ALL the weight and grip is on the outer wheels. With the Tamiya's limited max steering angle, that means larger turning radius. Does it really understeer, pushing straight over the front wheels?
I think it should come with an oil-filled gear diff to have some control on the loose stuff.
In an SRB at least, a diff is not really an upgrade.
Youre correct, along with gopro distortion, in the video i mention, it needs less toe out in front. No more RRC, 7 people telling me they didnt like it was enough to make me change it back lol
Slipper and ball diff need tightening.
yessir
you use BBX to bash it on skatepark? what an absolute madman
lol! never again it doesnt work well for jumping hahaha
One hand driving and the other filming?
Yessir, and some head cam go pro
understeer due to loose dirt... all buggies would have that issue
For sure! I hope my changes help somebody else who has to play in loose dirt
Doesnt every Tamiya car break in the first 10 minutes?
Im sure one could break them in less time if they wanted 😁
It's not a basher. 😊
no, no, not meant to jump
Hes not bashing smart arse
You actually ran a Tamiya RC? Tamiya's are meant for shelf queen collectors. Man, that 20mph must difficult to manage 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
lol!
DUDE, WTH man!!!!!
Which part 😅
@@rexrcs All the issues for such a new kit....
Basher 2wd buggy=traxxas
the 4x4 stampede is making my eyes wide...reminds me of their og emaxx
Broken or running better than traxxas.
sorry for the clickbait! you caught me, its not broken, its running super great
But does it understeer? 😝
🤣 you get the humor!
Cut out the crap music 🎶
Just a suggestion
