Nice video Ian. The key thing I learnt is that you have some very good friends. You're a lucky man - lovely family, lovely friends and doing a job that's a hobby!
I think that little bus really made a good account of itself! For the price of 3 B & Q wheelbarrows, that little car got you to the Netherlands and back without any problems. Impressive.
What an amazing £200 car . So no silly toys , just good no nonsense motoring . I liked the BMW you borrowed , I have a 99 BMW 328 SE Auto , which runs like a dream !
It's sad that village and small town dealers have gone. They often dealt in lesser known brands ignored by the volume sellers, and knew customers by name. Flowers for lady buyers and a card at Christmas, type of outlets. An illuminated sign was as corporate as it got.
A very enjoyable video, like Hubnut road trips of old, I still re watch " 2cv to Croatia " a brilliant little car for £200,such great condition,it's got to be a keeper surely??
Princess limousine? Many moons ago I won an Ambassador hearse on ebay. Had to punt it on quickly as my university supervisors deemed it inappropriate…. I was a medical student (now a doctor)
Love the Mentour Crew T-Shirt. Petter has an amazing channel, his aviation videos are interesting and informative 😁 The best aviation channel on UA-cam.
I remember years ago on a trip to the Netherlands on a bicycle tour. I noticed around built up areas a road sign indercating an instruction obviously aimed at motorists. I asked a local what it meant and he firmly told me it was remind motorist in these areas that they are a guest on the road and everyone else has priority over them. I thought blimey imagine telling that to a British motorist.
As a Dutch, I can vouch for that observation! Our Big Cities in the West are doing everything they can to ban automobilism in favor of bicyclism. There don't seem to apply any rules for people that are fit enough to move about on two wheels or feet.
Yes, road trip! The best test drive you can imagine, through 5 countries, for £200 purchase and no repairs. There are fun test drives in the Netherlands waiting to be broadcast.
Certainly in Germany, if a speed sign on an Autobahn has "bei nasse" underneath it, that does mean the speed limit applies when it's wet. And yes, road manners have seriously deteriorated in the UK. Also, it's nice to see that the road surface changing the second you get into Belgium hasn't changed in 25 years!
I remember being on Pistonheads more than 20 years ago complaining about the decline in driving standards. I think the plain truth is most people are bad drivers, but as the years have gone on, traffic got more dense and there's just more idiots per square mile, rather than as a proportion of drivers as a whole.
@@darknewt9959 I noticed a marked deterioration once people were encouraged to go back to work rather than work from home - and I'm sad to say that the German SUV driver flashing their headlights at you to get out of their way has returned :(
I’ve always loved your road trips, it’s like tagging along with an old friend (not literally, before you get alarmed!). The Croatian trip was probably one of your best features and this was very much along those lines. Nice work Ian.
You're always welcome, but don't be disappointed; HubNut only shows the nice bits. As a Dutch, I feel like I'm watching a Travelogue of some foreign country.
Thanks 🙏 for taking us with you on this lovely road-trip! What a brave man you are Ian ! Making this trip in a car you just bought ! I believe Perodua never been sold here in the Netherlands, I never heard of it at least! But it’s a nice little quirky and apparently reliable car ! I love the front ! Mixture of Lancia / Rover / Beamer kidneys on it’s own way! Please come back with Carly and the kids perhaps! 🤔 Bob!? So much to see ! And Dutch food ( not everything) but pannenkoeken, poffertjes, stroopwafels, kibbeling, lekkerbekjes! And typical Dutch sweets! 🍭 Glad you enjoyed your stay here in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and you made it all the way home with no problems! Back home to your lovely 🥰 family!🫶👍🏻👍🏻🆙
Back in 1992 I bought a 10 year old Talbot Alpine for £250, which plugged on cheaply for a few years. Another scrap Alpine bought for £35 and stripped for parts did help the cause. In 2005, I bought a 12 year old Cavalier with 200k miles for £175. It even had 9 months MOT and 3 months tax. The seller had been offered £175 as a p/x but the garage were going to scrap it and after it had served them well for 9 years, they couldn’t face it being crushed. All seems a long time ago when I see s/h car prices now.
Know what the scene I liked best was in this most enjoyable video? The sight of you relaxing in the back of the Kenari, having just discovered the seatback actually reclined in even this poverty-spec model, and looking comfy with a drink while the rain pelted down outside. Ah, looxury! And cup holders, too! Can't buy such a comfy seat for the sitting room for 200 quid. If the car has to be scrapped because of next month's MOT, you should save the engine/ECM to put into Chemmy. Not using oil is quite a big plus and who's going to notice half-a dozen lost horsepower at Wales speeds? I suspect it's as perky as Chemmy's used-up motor anyway. Plus, you never know, perhaps some of the brake bits fit as well. Just a thought.
The thing is the Kenari isn't even a base spec, being a GXi it's the top of the range one, essentially what Perodua did was crammed the 1L engine into a base trim for the UK market. In Malaysia the trim that this car has would go on to the EX base, minus the airbags, and some UK/EU exclusive parts.
I love the little Perodua. That kind of a road trip in a £200 car without breaking down, legendary! Loved your T-shirt too (Mentour!) I like the idea of road tax based on weight, those smug owners of 2+ tonne electric cars would have to pay for the damage their hugely heavy cars do. The best part about Pizza Express is you don't sweat!
The Citroën BX 19 GT you spotted (registered NN-12-GV) is the one I bought in 2003. I know the current owner very well, but it is so nice to see it on UA-cam. I had so many nice travels with it.
Loving the Perodua, I hope it stays on the Hubnut fleet for a while and you get chance to do some maintenance and improvements. It's a well deserved little car.
When i was coach driving in mainland Europe , all i did was keep to speed limits and watch the road signs lights etc , and things were fine... I love driving in Europe road are so much better
Hi Sir. Enjoyed the ride with you, as always. I imagined my CX-9 zipping along in traffic with you. It would look good over there, if rather large. Glad you had a safe trip home. Cheers.
Iv got to give credit where it is due, that was a really good enjoyable video to watch. I really do like your long road trips. Well done to the little Perodua as well...👍
Interestingly enough, the edges of the town and cities, with gas stations, car yards, and big box stores, looks very similar to the outskirts of New Zealand and Australian towns and cities. Even a lot of international corporate businesses have identical architecture to NZ and Australia.
Chrome Bezels around the dials, painted silver front bumper inserts means 330i. Awesome Cars. Had several as my company car back in the day. Old enough now to be HubNut but that would be a 318i 👍
What a brilliant little car. I can imagine it doesn’t feel great after extended periods of motorway driving and getting into an ‘executive’ car with cruise control must’ve been a pleasant respite. Notwithstanding though, that little Perodua is a remarkable car. The front grille and lights give it characterful looks, too.
A brilliant purchase Mr S, that little motor has spent most of its life parked up somewhere. Impressive that it took such a sudden long journey in its stride. Someone has looked after that little sausage. 👍
@Hubnut Think like a Scot whenever you try to pronounce anything in Dutch. The way a Scot would pronounce the word "how" is exactly the same way the Dutch pronounce a syllable like "Zui" (so with a heavy Scottish accent) The rest of the villages' name is like you reckoned. So for your english tongue you could have a go at "Zowlichem" with a heavy Scottish accent, it will sound quite Dutch that way. Zuilichem.
In the Netherlands the standard rule on non-priority crossroads is: Every vehicle (including bikes) coming from the right has right of way. Also: Traffic (including pedestrians) going straight on is having right of way.
What I love the most about the Kenari/Move is the driver's seat has great thigh support that makes long distance driving quite comfy and roomy. Glad you found another gem from Perodua. N.B. Oh ya, Kancil is pronounced 'Kahn-chill'. Owned two, they drive like go-karts with roofs, dont they?
Loving the road-trip videos! And very much looking forward to the coming car reviews, especially (since I am a sucker for small Renaults) the Twingo and it's sporty sibling. Also looking fprward to Miss Hubnuts verdict on the Perodua - will it out-shine Chemy? 😉
Watching all the parts on this lazy afternoon in the sun in Belgium. The E46 probably has the M54 or the M52 engine if it is an early one like it looks like to be the case. Bulletproof engines if correctly serviced on oil changes. The Vanos can go and the crankcase ventilation system sometimes needs reconditioning.
I think I saw that yellow austin this week on the roundabout near zuilichem which is also in your video. With the man sitting in the rumble seat with the umbrella, amazing coincidence. And the Aart en Leontien barbecue is legendary :)
What an amazing little car to do all that it’s a car with a lot to give and deserves its place on the fleet well done Ian a great purchase and looks like you had a brilliant time in Netherlands some great motors there
What an impressive road trip this was and a great compilation of your various travels on the Continent. With a 200 pound Perodua no less. Thank you very much and may I add, big respect too for your work schedule, a very good insight into the HubNut, 'behind-the-videos' action. And all on the phone as I understand it. Even if the car gives you 'throttle foot' (after so many miles), I do hope this Kenari stays on the HubNut fleet for a while. You might even find a new home for the cool green one perhaps! Many thanks again Ian, road trip action for the win, all I can add further is 👍👍
Brilliant video. One of the feel good videos. I am very happy with you Ian that you are reviving thease Malaysian cars. I used to own a Proton Impian very good reliable car. I hope one day Proton, Perodua and Daihutsu make a comeback in the UK 🇬🇧.
Think the Perodua Netherlands trip vids have been my favourite. Some great footage taken, especially the ferry parts, super interesting. Would absolutely love to do something similar one day. And the Perodua, what an amazing little car that is!
I bought a bit of a wreck of a 19 year old Toyota Yaris and it still cost me nearly a thousand pounds. The days of the two hundred pound car seem to be gone now.
If your doing Holland in the future consider the Rotterdam - Hull route. Leave at 18.00 and arrive at about 8.00 the next morning. Let the boat do the driving whilst you sleep. In Holland you'll seldom be more than 1.5 hrs from the Europoort. A good night's sleep good breakfast - then from Hull to Telford in 3.5 hrs then over the border to reunite in the land of the fleecey brotherhood. Used it many times to avoid the channel ports, London the M25 , M1 and bits of the M6.....
Try finding a ferry rout via Google maps. It carries a programming fault. It only shows the "shortest" route Try Hull to Rotterdam - always show a route via Dover!!!! If you change the vehicle type to a "pedestrian" it will recommend the most direct ferry.
Great vlog as always. Not sure if you've thought of a name but I thought Jac (Kenari). We drove back from Austria last week and clocked up 917 miles one way so we were commenting about some of the places you passed through as we'd been there last week...Junc 10 wasn't too bad for us either.
I drive a truck over night from plymouth to Lichfield. Motorway closures are a pain in my arse. It takes 4 hours 15 minutes to drive it without closures. We can only drive for 4 hours 30 in one go. The current m5 closure overnight means it's easier to drive the A46 instead. But we have to stop for a break on the way back.
If youre ever around Cobham just go to Sainsbury's its just off the cobham junction and is like 20p a litre cheaper than youll get at cobham service its wild how extortionate it is for a 5 min diversion
Another top vid with excellent bluebird headlight wiper action. Great to see an example of people merging early and traffic flowing. I have a friend who is a civil engineer who has worked on traffic flow plans for road works and improved junctions, he says all the computer models show that if everyone merged as soon as possible the traffic would gently slow to the reduced speed limit and continue flowing through the restrictions smoothly however the highway code contradicts this, says you may use all the available road and some members of the great British motoring public pretend that means it's compulsory.
I tend to merge late, like a zip, but try to keep my speed similar to the queuing traffic, not blast past and dive in forcing other cars to brake hard.
Superb travelogue! This Kia Rio I've bought has a similar noise issue....it's more road noise than wind though. Like the Perodua, it's a bargain basement box, so I'll forgive the lack of sound deadening, especially as I'm getting just under 60mpg out of something that weighs as much as a politician's promises yet packs a 110bhp punch. It's very, very impressive!
Missed you by a hair, Ian!! Tuesday... I was in the same traffic jam on the A27, taking the exit Oosterhout Zuid. Strangely enough I was on the lookout for you, because i.knew you were at JCS, held near the exit I took and you passed whilst in that traffic jam!! 😂
Many many years ago my local council had a black Princess as their mayoral car, complete with the coat of arms on the bonnet. It was decently frugal with our money but also a bit pathetic at the same time.
Nice video. I missed JCS as I'm in England. Tomorrow I'm heading for Mid Wales, so I recognize much of your trip. Calais indeed way to busy compared to Dunkirk.
We never had peroduas here but on a very strange way i like it 😂 This trip brought me back memories from my trip on the beginning of last month from Portugal to Germany and back on my Ford Fusion 1.25cc, amazing 😊
I'm surprised that Ian didn't mention the lack of pot-holes on the roads in the Netherlands, whereas here in the UK pot holes appear EVERYWHERE... Nonetheless, the Kenari coped with everything admirably. What a great little car.
So, is this £200 little delight a keeper, or a flipper? Due to your fleet needing and having a rest for a little while. Fabulous video, great work, and thank you, for all your hard work. Hope you get time to relax. All the very best.
Nice video Ian. The key thing I learnt is that you have some very good friends. You're a lucky man - lovely family, lovely friends and doing a job that's a hobby!

For the price of 3 B & Q wheelbarrows, that little car got you to the Netherlands and back without any problems. Impressive.
Best £200 you've spent Ian. Nice to see you're a Mentour Pilot fan too.
Petter is great, followed Mentour pilot for many years and learnt a lot from him. 👍🏼
Leeds Leeds Leeds MOT
Ians video's are a tad less harrowing than mentourpilots which is light relief.
What an amazing £200 car . So no silly toys , just good no nonsense motoring . I liked the BMW you borrowed , I have a 99 BMW 328 SE Auto , which runs like a dream !
So glad you got to John Childs at last. Nice touch in an impressive length video. Thank Ian, most enjoyable.
It's sad that village and small town dealers have gone. They often dealt in lesser known brands ignored by the volume sellers, and knew customers by name. Flowers for lady buyers and a card at Christmas, type of outlets. An illuminated sign was as corporate as it got.

Hilarious! 🤣
Comment on the night eight there. Wonderful.
Ha ha! Brilliant!
Remarkable achievement for both man and motor. I do love a collection caper and that was an epic example. ❤
Love the Mentour Crew T-Shirt. Petter has an amazing channel, his aviation videos are interesting and informative 😁 The best aviation channel on UA-cam.

Love these long travelogues. Thanks for sharing, Ian.👍

Wow that little car sure has done well Ian. Miss Hubnut will hopefully like it. Great video thanks.
Absolutely brilliant video Ian ❤👍 what a lot of lovely sites in Holland it's a beautiful country can't wait to see the show brilliant

The Charade has a variable valve timing version of the engine so it isn't a straight swap. Sensors and ECU will be different.

I'm always fascinated by the different style of street furniture, road signs, typography etc. in different countries.
Just read an article on different new road signs to watch out for in some southern European countries. Some were really confusing!

A brilliant purchase Mr S, that little motor has spent most of its life parked up somewhere. Impressive that it took such a sudden long journey in its stride. Someone has looked after that little sausage. 👍
It was averaging about 1200 miles per year, until last year when it did 10,000!
Loving the windmills but, the click - clack of the indicator relay steals the show for me. Sheer delight.

Great content again. She’s a little trooper. Look forward to the next.

Nice, will watch on Friday 😀
Of course, it will get you home, I have every confidence fingers and everything crossed good luck...
Great video, hope you keep the Perodua!
Now that was one hell of a journey Ian, I bet your glad your home hope you had a great time.
Brilliant video. One of the feel good videos. I am very happy with you Ian that you are reviving thease Malaysian cars. I used to own a Proton Impian very good reliable car. I hope one day Proton, Perodua and Daihutsu make a comeback in the UK 🇬🇧.

Wow what a bargain for 200 notes! Great journey video! 👍🏼
Here in Croatia that would be about a €2000 car, I do miss UK banger prices.
They're rarely this low here anymore. Less than a month of MOT kept this one cheap.
I bought a bit of a wreck of a 19 year old Toyota Yaris and it still cost me nearly a thousand pounds. The days of the two hundred pound car seem to be gone now.

Love the driver's eye view of driving through the Netherlands - reminds me of playing Euro Truck Simulator 2!
Another top vid with excellent bluebird headlight wiper action.

What a heroic little car. Well done little Perodua, and Ian.

Awesome trip and lovely countryside. Thanks for sharing Ian, £200 well spent. 😊👍
That hotel room looked like a cabin in a cruise ship.
A very interesting video. Thanks for sharing Ian 😁.
what a fab road trip. the little car did you proud. I bet you slept well that evening though!!!
What a fabulous little motor Ian. A real bargain I think.
Im' a huge point and go fan , had those sort of cars for a while now
Great to see you made it safely home !
what a great video, and a great little car! looks like it may need brake pipes for the next mot, but well worth spending on it 🙂
Many many years ago my local council had a black Princess as their mayoral car, complete with the coat of arms on the bonnet. It was decently frugal with our money but also a bit pathetic at the same time.
Fair play tyou for pedalling that little gem all that way. Ironically, more comfy in the rear seat. Good caper. Summer's here, rain's got warm.
Very impressive wee motor vehicle Mr HubNut, and a great video to watch.
Can't wait for the C4 review. The worst Corveyye ever made but I absolutely loved mine !
Loved this series, wonderful car, I want one but they are hard to find in New York
Nice video. I missed JCS as I'm in England. Tomorrow I'm heading for Mid Wales, so I recognize much of your trip. Calais indeed way to busy compared to Dunkirk.
Nice tour Ian, the Perodua certainly held up well.
Nice roof bars on the green car...
Congratulations on a successful trip 😊
Very cool the Kenari! And NL and Belgium sure like their MB Sprinters, holy cow.
That was a really nice video. Collection caper on steroids. Thank you.
Every car there was awesome. Cool video ❤😊
Japan classic Sunday looked very wet shame to not see more of it
Full video coming on Saturday at 4pm. It didn't rain until most folk had gone home!
Go back to 2009 on Google Street View and Childs have a ton of them in that breaker area. The gold one has been there a while.
I have noticed that the Perodua has also had some wheel modifications since being in the Netherlands.
lovely little Perodua Kenari and rare in the uk
We never had peroduas here but on a very strange way i like it 😂
This trip brought me back memories from my trip on the beginning of last month from Portugal to Germany and back on my Ford Fusion 1.25cc, amazing 😊
Loved the video and the subtle reference to an aviation UA-camr.
What an inspiring trip 🎉
I'm surprised that Ian didn't mention the lack of pot-holes on the roads in the Netherlands, whereas here in the UK pot holes appear EVERYWHERE... Nonetheless, the Kenari coped with everything admirably. What a great little car.
I did mention it...
So, is this £200 little delight a keeper, or a flipper? Due to your fleet needing and having a rest for a little while. Fabulous video, great work, and thank you, for all your hard work. Hope you get time to relax. All the very best.
It will depend on the MOT...
Ah little Pedro keeps plodding on,glad you made it home ok
