Welcome aboard mate! The insomnia is as unforgiving as the sea. But I see the calm dark water ahead, like black glass on the horizon. Sleep well, I’ll take first watch.
Out of all the villains we’ve had in these movies, Barbossa, Lord Beckett, Black Beard, and Captain Salazar, Davy Jones had the most complex backstory without a doubt.
Theodor Nechita 1 he had deep feeling he had emotions he had so many thing he was a great character and a awesome villain Davey Jones had even an amazing song, and Disney for what I think can’t and won’t make again such perfect villain, they might in the future but I really have no idea
Darth Vader (Anakin), remember that Mister Disney buys all the shit that generates more than 10 dollars, but yes Davy Jones is still very deep and an awesome character
In my D&D setting there's an entity that uses this song as basically a siren's song to add more souls to the fleet of ghost ships that's ran by my world's version of Davey Jones.
Ten years I devoted to the duty you charged me , ten years I looked after those who died at the sea and finally when we could be together again you weren't there. Why weren't you there? * tears fell down *
I did what I could for ten years, just to be with her. And she wasn't there. *She* made me the monster I am. But now, I can be with her forever. We are one with the sea.
My husband and I have been separated by the seas for years now. This version is my favorite, because it depicts the sorrow without the fury that follows in most versions. Because I’m not angry at him, and he’s not angry at me. We’re both just terribly sad because of the immense distance.
The real villain was neither Davy Jones, nor Calypso. One's nature cannot be thwarted. Sea will not be bound, and a man who loves the flame will burn himself. Some love stories are meant to turn tragic and that's a depressing thought.
@@BedfastSquid Except not, she only turned him and the crew into monsters cause he stopped caring for the souls of those in the afterlife. It was his punishment. Why would she turn him back into human after all those years of leaving the souls of the dead to swim the seas of the afterlife without being cared for properly? Just cause he gave her a reason why he did so? Had he done his duty, heartbreak or not, she would not have turned him into that monster.
@@KingSolidTails yeah but he only took the job because she made him a promise. That’s the only reason Jones sold his soul. She should have given him his soul back after the first ten years of his service. Ten years in which he actually took care of those who died at sea. He did his job and Calypso wasn’t there. She is cruel for not being there as well as keeping him the way he is.
@@BedfastSquid He didn't become a monster because he lost his soul, she turned him into a monster after he stopped doing his job. And even then he never neccesarily "lost his soul," he was just bound to the job as Captain of the Flying Dutchman. Yes she should have offered him a way to go back to not being bound but I'm not entirely sure how it would work at that point, as the Flying Dutchman must have a Captain. She was horrible for not being there, but at the same time she is who she is, and he fell in love with her for who she is. He expected too much, and she didn't offer enough. They were both in their own wrong. Just as the OP said, some love stories are meant to turn tragic, but this love story had deeper ties and thus created a ruthless monster from its tragedy. Davy Jones served his 10 years as he was meant to. Calypso wasn't there to meet him on his one day ashore. Davy Jones was heartbroken and stopped doing his job as Captain of the Flying Dutchman. Calypso turned him into a monster because he stopped doing his job. Calypso is at fault here, but it's like saying would you kill a man over being heartbroken? And no that's not an exaggeration. Davy Jones could've continued his duties and he wouldn't have been turned into a monster..but being turned into a monster was the least of his problems at that point, so he didn't care.
This is terrifying and yet beautiful in so many ways. The simplicity of it makes you feel lonely like someone left behind and forgotten, a shell of your past self. A self that used to be happy and feeling like it had everything it needed. A beauty that was once there could never be achieved again. The somber tone is almost as if in mourning for that version of yourself.
There's something so beautiful in the simplicity of this. The creaking of the ship, the waves hitting the hull. I can picture myself on a ship in the middle of the night looking out at the stars with this melody playing. Thinking about lost innocence, a child who was wronged and grew up to become a monster, knowing deep down inside that his way of living is wrong. Questioning what happened to him, what he's doing with his life, the people he is hurting through his choices, and what fate will fall upon him in his future. He plays this melody in an effort to grasp whatever good he has left. When he closes his eyes, he is a child again listening to the tune play while his mother holds him. He can see her smile and feel her warmth. He opens his eyes and he's back leaning over the rail of the ship in the dark and the quiet, the sails flapping quitely in the wind, the horizon teetertottering in the distance. He sighs in disgust at the man he has become.
Does anyone else imagine themselves as part of the Dutchmen's crew as they listen to this? Like Davy Jones is playing his music box in the night as you sail the ship?
Cruel and cold, Like winds on the sea Will you ever return to me? Hear my voice, And sing with the tide My love will never die. Over waves, And deep in the blue, I will give up my heart for you. Ten long years, I’ll wait to go by My love will never die. *Come my love, Be one with the sea. Rule with me for eternity. Drown all dreams, So mercilessly And leave their souls to me.* Play the song, You sang long ago And head wherever the storm may blow You will find The key to my heart, We’ll never be apart. *Wild and strong, You can’t be contained. Never bound, nor ever chained. Wounds you’ve cause, They’ll never mend And you will never end.*

Sherlock: "This is your heart and you should never let it rule your head" Davy Jones: *Carve out his heart and locked it in a chest, so he no longer feels any grief or emotion of love*
When I was younger I thought calypso was friendly and Davy Jones was bad And I wasn’t understanding why the pirates were saying that calypso is bad and they all hate her but with a couple of time I realized Calypso was the actual villains cuz she turned a good and kind man into a monster
I have tinnitus at the age of 16 and I’ve always had trouble sleeping, but with this I don’t have to take sleeping pills to fall asleep. I truly appreciate you for uploading this.
Somehow this melody captures the pain, the suffering that Davy Jones went through. His conflicted emotions, over a broken promise, made him a monster... he vents out his rage through his pipe organ on the Flying Dutchman, hitting the right keys and notes that purely reflect his pain... Davy Jones is no doubt the most misunderstood villain of any universe. Conflicted over love, and all the rage that built up made him Davy Jones...
I think Davy Jones is a perfect villain for a movie series rated for everyone (AKA for both kids and adults.) He’s kinda silly and campy sometimes, but he’s also intimidating when he needs to be. This keeps the audience entertained. But they also give him a tragic and sympathetic backstory to give the adults something to think about. You want Davy Jones to lose and the good pirate crew to win, but you also kinda feel bad because you know that deep down, Davy Jones is only evil because he was hurt. He was hurt so badly that he never allowed himself to heal. This was symbolized with him literally cutting out his heart and putting all his feelings in s box. A very complex and emotional villain. In my opinion, I think a villain should be slightly sympathetic. Even if you consciously know that their evil, the audience being able yo slightly empathize with the villain makes it 100x more interesting than just another Good vs. Evil fight. Anyway, perfect villain lol
Personally i half agree, I think that there still can be good pure evil villains like Skeletor or Sauron and they can be fantastic. My belief is that its more effective if you can understand why they do it even if you can't agree or sympathize, be it for fun, because of trauma, or it's simply in their nature. I don't think it needs to be one or the other, in fact many times making a villain relatable or someone you can sympathize with can actually lessen their impact like Thanos from the mcu.
@@generalgarchomp333 the joker is a perfect example, he’s pure evil for what he dose now and we love his character for what he’s dose. But knowing his backstory we feel bad for him and wish he could had a better life but then we’re reminded that he’s insane now and possibly has hit the no return button.
Ten years, I devoted to the duty you charged me. Ten years, I looked after those who died at sea, and finally, when we could be together again, you weren't there. WHY weren't YOU THERE? - Davy Jones, the sailor of our time.
Tis my nature, Would you love me if I were anything but what I am? I do not love you. Many things you were, Davy Jones; but never cruel. You have corrupted your purpose, and so yourself.
a broken promise leads to a broken heart a broken heart leads to a clouded mind a clouded mind leads to a corrupt soul a corrupt soul creates a person who lives only for evil Remember this before you try to break someones trust
It goes ways both ways. When same emotions collide will form hatred. Out love that rips the hearts of both. Only one has the ability of the will to find forgiveness with in ones self to open the eyes the soul to understand the pain of other . On either side, one must step forward to sacrifice ones great pain to place the hearts once torn from one another. Scars will remain but could make something more beautiful than before or the unpredictable. Ps : I’m no church goer jus passin some knowledge of experience. ✌️
I just want to thank you for making this video. It’s the ONLY thing that can help me sleep at night peacefully. I’m plagued by insomnia, suicidal thoughts and PTSD trauma nightmares. When I get old enough to be in the army and get out and start a family of my own I'll show this to my kids every night to help them sleep and never, NEVER leave their side. Cause I don't want to make the same mistake my father did by leaving me. As a kid my life has had ups and downs, some hard times that shook off,and some that leaves a pearment reminder of how much hell I've been put through my fifteen years on this earth.I lost everyone who has been there for me and cared for me like my grandma and grandpa and my mother, cause my pice of shit father was NEVER there for me and my mother, instead he runs off to some other girl and avoids me! But losing my grandma and then my grandpa hurt, but not as hard as losing my mother to drugs. Even when she was high she still cared for me, I was her rock and she was mine, and I broke the one promise I tried to keep,to not let her die alone like my grandma did, but I broke that promise and she died in 2020 on a hospital bed alone. If she had only stopped doing drug maybe she would be here right now, but no she chose to go get high! Me and her had a bond thicker than blood,a true mother, son bond, but I sit here at age fifteen writing this for nothing but to only waste my time drowning in my own tears, but as I said before I would die for my kid or kids, just as my mother would have done for me.
Give me a ship, a crew of brothers and sisters, and an unexplored ocean full of myths and mysteries. I would quit my life to live that dream with no doubts.
One man and one woman. Dreams tied and sown through the oceans love so lovingly allong the sunset. Tears of joy and tears of sorrow. Those days will never heal before tomorrow. From good and kind to cruel and blind. Shattered in two and split by a feud. Cursed by love yet drawn by fate forever alone.. A man of faith, a man of love. A woman of desire, a woman made out of fire. Forever to sail the endless tide. One ship by my side. One heart still alive, yet beating outside my life. Sorrow filled and vengeance built. Broken in two yet blind with love. Forever alone, forever apart.. Will love meet me when I part?
As a dutch man with the blood of sailors. I would also love it Out on the cold hard and wet deck steering where the winds may go. No matter the weather. "We shall sail!"
Kids: “I wanna be a pirate!” Parents: “So you want to be a thief that murders, loots, and rapes?” Kids: “No! A pirate!” Parents: “Isn’t that what I just asked what you wanted to be?”
I wanna sail all 7 seas. No matter how long it takes or how many people say I won't do it ill sail all the seas see all the sights eat all the foods visit all the countries. See all the women. Bond with the men. But most of all sing this alone as I travel through the waves of the Pacific and the Atlantic.
Im so happy to find this again... Its like coming back to a long lost lover you almost gave up searching for- only to find it right before you give up. Rest well, mates! We'll be out of this storm, soon
When I was younger (probably 12 or so) I made up some lyrics for this. Once upon a time, far away My love was swallowed up by waves I still grieve for his lost soul, As I cry here, alone I still remember it every time I hear the song 👍
When i listen to this, my heart seems to slow down. Memories start flowing in my head... memories when i was a young boy and how everything was great back then. I had friends and a family and right now i have nothing, besides my mother and father who are in the last years of their lives. My mom she is 68 and my dad is 80. I am 28 and i feel like this life decided to take things by pieces until i have nothing but me. Love those 2 so much that when they go i will be completely broken and empty (psychologically speaking). I do hope that one day someone will come to my life to remove this from me. I used to be happy, but now i am just an empty vessel. This song makes me feel relaxed and happy because i can feel bits of what i felt when i was younger...I Just close my eyes and let myself go with this music.
It is said by many that all good things must come to an end. And that time waits for no man. I have struggles that are upon other levels but know how I feel that I can’t be happy without my parents around. They are still around, but I fear when God will bring them home to their final resting place.
Never give up brother. Do that, and you won't be able to meet that someone, or anyone for that matter. You seem like a cool guy. In terms of a lover, that'll happen when it happens, just keep moving and keep improving. :) take it easy.
I never imagined there would be someone that has experienced what i have. It's hard, so hard, but you must be strong. Sometimes it'll feel endless i know. You'll find the person who will chase the clouds of dispair away, i have hope for you. As for myself, I'm still waiting for my sunlight. My clouds of despair don't seem done with me yet...
This is a good thing to listen to when you ran out of tears and want the world to cry for you. I value rain because of it. It reminds me that I am not alone. Just growing cold, in some ways.
I always think about Davy and calipso, Davy more especific;; His history was painful at the start. When the fell in love with Calipso, he even know the punishment if he don't follow the rules for the souls, even that, when he turn in to a monster, he never stop loving her ultil the day he died, even he took off his heart. Maybe he is a one of the best villains of Disney, and he deserves a movie, of maybe a Happy ending with Calipso, he was only a man who fall in love for the eternity, and maybe he only was hurt for obvious reasons, and I think he only wants to stay with her by his side forever. they have a great love tragic story. He is a good pirate;;
d4vy Jones k and they only made him feel worse when they made him kill his kraken which you can tell he cared about since he looks so distraught when bekket brings it up. Now he really had nothing to lose
I love pirates so much. Their lifestyles were interesting as well as their wardrobes. They were what was know as "bloody buccaneers" because of their reckless behaviors. Seriously, an average day on a pirate ship resulted in getting drunk, killing someone, gambling, and many other things that are better left unsaid. Davy Jones has to be my favorite pirate of all time because of how deep and emotional his background was. It was beautifully put together and should be praised for being unique and authentic.
@@LuckyDucky1276 A lot of times they actually only stole from the rich and greedy and would leave the poor alone. In their time the rich did pretty much nothing and gained their money off of slavery and shit so they were the bad guys tbh
I feel like this song speaks to others differently. On one side you have the soothing calmness but on the other is a deeply settled grief that permeates everything you which turns it into a haunting and chilling melody that you'd expect only the most broken of hearted to know. Truly an instant masterpiece by Mr. Zimmer; able to capsulate a haunting song with love still in its root.
I don’t know why but the thought of being Davy Jones damned and stuck at sea for Eternity with a crew and ship destroying fleets, being feared but also living a sad life with a broken heart from a love. Just seems so awesome I’m just so fascinated with the villains of the Disney universe and I always wanted to live their life instead of the hero.
Space Cadet I mean his love did lead to pain because he felt so betrayed by calypso that he couldn’t bare the pain so he ripped his heart out and put it somewhere where he would never be which is land and this DID eventually lead to him dying
* Sips coffee quietly * He’s a good man, worker, lover. He was just stressed out until he broke. Broke by the one he loves most. Imagine devoting a tenth of your life for someone, then them abandoning you. That breaks any person, no matter how strong they are, how naive they are, how sturdy they are, or how evil they are. You then have to deal with that pain forever. You would have to separate yourself from your heart, because if you didn’t, the only thing you would be doing is plotting a way to die.
Ten years . . . I devoted to the duty you charged me Ten years I looked over those who had died at sea And when we could finally be together again you weren't there . . . . Why weren't you there?!

Never had a girlfriend, but there has been a woman I have waited to tell how I’ve felt over five years now, soon it’ll be six. I used to hang around her weekly but was too shy to express how I felt. Over time I only got to see her once a month, then later it turned to half years, then into years. It has been a long time since I last saw her face. I doubt that I’ll ever get to see it again... That’s life for you, if you don’t chase the things you want in life, they’ll eventually disappear. Call this fake if you like, but only I know the truth to my experiences. And from what I know of them, it is the truth.

Honestly the real monster wasn’t Davy Jones, it was Calypso. He did what she asked for 10 years without fail waiting for the one day he could see his beloved, only for her to not be there and show she didn’t care. I would feel betrayed and angered too.
@@xeroplay4509 Ones status should mean nothing when it’s true love..Calypso could have taken one day away from the sea to be with Jones. He sold his soul for her because she promised they could be together..Calypso is indeed cruel and worthy of being titled a villain. Jones was just a flawed mortal man and calypso a goddess basically took advantage of that and made Jones her servant..forever..seriously fuck calypso
@@BedfastSquid Calypso is actually supposed to be a representation of the sea itself, which include both its best and worst qualities. The sea treats everyone equally (horribly), so when Davy Jones returned from his promise, by landing on mortal seas he reunited with Calypso...which is very understandably some Monkey's Paw bullshit but Calypso cannot give special treatment due to the sea itself favoring no one, even the one she loves. And, it's this Monkey's Paw bullshittery that Davy Jones did in fact love since that is Calypso's nature, as she stated. Jones simply trusted a literally untrustworthy force to keep a promise, something that the sea is incapable of doing (even modern weather technology can't 100% predict it enough for any consistency). What's sad is that Calypso did try to keep her promise in a way that doesn't go against who she is, but that in itself showed that she is unable to sacrifice like Jones did. Because the sea doesn't sacrifice, only take sacrifices, and if she sacrificed for him then that would be completely against what the sea is. It was a cruel love that was doomed from the start, but both had no idea how far the extent of that cruelty would extend.

“Ten years I devoted to the duty you charged me. Ten years I looked after those who died at sea. And finally when we could be together again, you weren’t there.”
thing is I listen to this whenever I think about my last relationships, both of which ending in disaster just like what happened to Jones. Out of all villains I've ever seen in movies, I sympathize with him more than any other. Because I know the pain he feels on a personal level. This helps me reminisce, think about the good times I had with those lovers, while still filling me with grief now that like with Davy, those relationships have sank now. Easily one of Disney's greatest villains.
I honestly can’t explain it. I’m sitting here, at my desk at work, tears rolling down my face. I don’t feel anything. I’m not sad, not upset, not depressed(at this exact moment anyway), and I’m just crying listening to it.
Sometimes I close my eyes and imagine myself at sea feeling the cold air rushing thru my hair and hearing the sea herself rock against the ship, the sound of the ship creaking as it rocks back and forth and then looking up at the stars as a smile slowly forms on my face
This song is so meaningful to me. Think about the story of Davy Jones’ love story and you have my life. Trying to do what cannot be done, she betrayed me and now I am lost. Now I find temporary solutions if losing my emotions. Makes me about as cruel as jones as well. Cutting my heart out isn’t a realistic solution so I have to find other ways. What I’ve found out so far is to think about the size of the universe and all it’s celestial bodies, how small earth is compared to everything, how small you are compared to earth and how small and insignificant your feelings are compared to the rest of the population. This only works on a few people and I’m lucky enough that it works on me. For the best experience of losing your emotions you need to focus on it and say it to yourself (in your head) several times. The best way I’ve found to not feel emotions again after is to stop caring, don’t think too much about anything and don’t let any personal preference for anything alter your choice. Work from brain not from heart. She already cut out my heart anyway. And I’m prepared to do it physically now. Anything that’ll stop this.
Arrested4Loitering how could I have looked for another person if I only loved her? It wouldn’t have felt right. I don’t love her anymore and I have a new girlfriend. And she thicc too.

Well spoken!
Calypso could have at least made him human again. She is the villain.
@@BedfastSquid
Except not, she only turned him and the crew into monsters cause he stopped caring for the souls of those in the afterlife.
@@BedfastSquid
He didn't become a monster because he lost his soul, she turned him into a monster after he stopped doing his job.

Same. I realised I was an admirer of his because I had a similar story
Underrated and beautiful comment.

Darth Vader would like to know your location.
I also played this to my baby nephew, it put me and him to sleep within a few minutes in
Squeaking ship ropes in the back, light rainy ocean.Thank you, Mr. Jones, for helping me sleep.
I always love how the dutchman comes out of the water. Pieces falling of the sails full of seaweed.
The ship looks like it should
Old and slowely rotting away
Let's cry for him and his bad luck in love and life
Davy Jones it's easily the best Disney villain ,[I'm not counting Vader because he didn't was a Disney villain in the first place] he have the best villain soundtrack ever made, one of the greatest backstories created, and a frigging amazing design
I love🖤 this. It really helps me to fall asleep thank you .👍🏻
Same here Juliette Lopez

It’s 3 am and I’m in bed listening to this while peeling a raw onion because I’m hungry...
Update: I’ve eaten the entire onion and my mouth feels like I just drank sulphuric acid, I can’t taste anything in the canter of my tongue, and my heart and stomach feel like they are on fire...
A truly sobering experience.
Glorious
ok
But *why*?
WHY WOULD YOU EAT A ENTIRE ONION😭
This moved me.

Davy jones didnt do his job or he wouldnt be covers in those tentacles
@@BedfastSquid
Calypso is actually supposed to be a representation of the sea itself, which include both its best and worst qualities.
@@genitxlz He had his tentacles when he stopped doing his job lmao
U say she didn't care. Why is it her fault?
I feel nostalgy listening this and idk why... Is just... Magic
I would liked to be a pirate :(
No ads... what a legend
Cruel and cold like winds on the seas
Will you ever return to me
Hear my voice sing with the tide
My love will never die
Over waves and deep in the blue
I will give up my heart for you
Ten long years i'll wait to go by
My love will never die
Come my love be one with the sea
Rule with me for eternity
Drown all dreams so mercilessly
And leave their souls to me
Play the song you sang long ago
And wherever the storm may blow
You will find the key to my heart
We'll never be apart
Wild and strong you can't be contained
Never bound nor ever chained
Wounds you caused will never mend
And you will never end

Damn Davy Jones knows how to make some dope music
I have tears in my eyes while im listen' ro this.
The pain that davy Jones had to endure in his heart ....
For some reason this genuinely makes me wish I was out on a boat at night in the rain. It's so soothing I wish I could experience it in real life 💜
Me too but, I also don't want to because most of the time a storm meant destruction to the ship and crew

I really like this interpretation of yours it fits well!
Davy Jones theme:: When you realise the harsh truth of a broken heart and the cruel reality of life but an ever so small piece of you clings to hope, like a man clinging to flotsam in an unforgiving storm
“Ten years I devoted to the duty you charged me. Ten years I looked after those who died at sea. And finally when we could be together again, you weren’t there.”

I agree
When I hear the sounds of the sea the wind and the
wood I feel like I have been on a ship, thanks for the music I can't sleep without it.
thing is I listen to this whenever I think about my last relationships, both of which ending in disaster just like what happened to Jones.
Imagine listening to this while at sea.
That's the ultimate coma-nap
Or while looking at Siberia from a basement...
I honestly can’t explain it. I’m sitting here, at my desk at work, tears rolling down my face. I don’t feel anything. I’m not sad, not upset, not depressed(at this exact moment anyway), and I’m just crying listening to it.
Even strain mate; weather eye for enemy ships...
I don't fear death
I fear love

Everyone fears a broken heart
Love is a drug you use that have worse consequences than any other drug

Love is a double edged sword, it's your biggest comfort but also your biggest weakness...
True as fuck.... Just.. True
This type of music is always relaxing...really calming once you just listen to everything...
