Appreciate your review of the car even though it's 2020! I bought my 2013 Jetta hybrid in 2016, and I love the car despite some .......mechanical mishaps that I blame the dealership for.
I typically get 37-40mpg per tank, depending on if I'm late for work a lot that week. If I pay attention to my acceleration and stay at 64-65, I can get 40-42mpg. It really depends on the road elevation and when you choose to accelerate and let off the gas.
Cruise control does a much better job at being efficient, so if you want to save gas money, you need to use it.
The handling is where this car really shines. I once got a loaner 2016 Jetta tsi while it was in the shop and treated it the same way, NOPE.
The tsi could not handle off-ramps at 60-65mph, the Jetta hybrid can handle turns really well, and it doesn't wobble like the tsi.
One time I was in the Oakland Hills on the San Pablo Dam road side, a sporty Miata approached from behind. The guy inside looked like he wanted to drive fast and eventually pass me.
I decided to see if the Jetta Hybrid could keep up with this Miata. The Miata guy never got angry or flashed lights trying to pass me because we were having fun!
The Jetta hybrid can keep up with a sporty Miata, haha I know he wasn't pissed cause at the end, he was smiling and waving, so I think he was impressed for sure.
We were handling tight corners at like 40-50mph.
The torque really helps in these situations pulling the car out of turns after letting go of the gas, especially if you find the sweet spot of when the electric motor kicks in. There is a sweet spot for the e-boost that you can only figure out from experience, it's not just slamming on the accelerator, need to treat it like a manual transmission without using the shifter. Also, the nose of the car is small which is a HUGE help for visibility.
OH also there is one trick with this car for effectively shifting the gear with your foot instead of the shifter.
Quickly releasing the accelerator at the perfect rpm will force the mechatronic unit to basically reset to neutral. This is how you solve the problem of the car getting "confused" as to what gear to use.
Listen to the engine and let go of the accelerator when you would normally use the shifter and it will switch to that gear. If you get fast at it, it becomes a seamless experience. This is also how you get quick access to the e-boost. The biggest mistake is to drive the Jetta hybrid like an automatic car, drive it like a manual transmission where you shift the gears with your foot instead of the stick. Only if you want to get the best performance out of the car, obviously don't need to do this for casual drives.

Picked up one in Feb 2020 for just over 6K$. And just over 100k miles.
I recommend checking the Vin for recalls.
So far there was a software update and transmission housing micro fractures.
I drive mostly suburbs to and from work.
I get about 35 to 38 mpg On premium gas.
There is a noticeable "kick" when the engine, well, kicks in , going from a stop to drive.
Otherwise I have very few complaints.

I've seen the transmission is a BIG problem on these, did that recall fix that issue? I saw someone had theirs replaced thrice and ended up selling it

Love the car, but make sure you change the transmission fluid regularly.

Hi, can I use regular gas on jetta hybrid because I heard from many reviews that it takes premium gas

Premium fuel is recommended, however most turbocharged VWs will run on regular, just the performance might be down a little. That being said, I would always recommend premium fuel in any direct injected turbocharged engine, even if it says you can run on regular fuel, it will run so much better.
