Thanks for this info. I definitely have APT. I'm age 61 and I've been a truck driver since the '80s. I was taught a long time ago in order to correct back problems such as spasms, I needed to train my back with a cushion in the lower back and my hips all the way backk. The result has been APT.
I really hated looking at myself in the mirror because I at your age was in top shape too. I guess over time life got in the way. I'm trying hip flexor stretches in addition to what you are demonstrating in your videos.
It's great news that I can correct it. I was worried that it was simply due to my age and a life of sitting at the wheel.
    Thank you for your contributions
    Dave

  • @AFCbailey

Easiest solution - Stick a jacket / jumper / cushion / pillow at the front of the chair, so that its kind of situated just behind your knees. Your legs will be slightly elevated and your pelvis will be forced to tilt upwards (into more neutral position). If you have problems with APT you will instantly feel the stretch in the tight lower back muscles. After a while they will loosen and relieve your APT a bit. This also works if you are a back sleeper (sleep on your back). Stick a pillow under your knees to neutralise your pelic position.

Everyone is telling you not to slouch and sit with straight back, and I thought arching my back and sticking my butt out means sitting with straight back. You cannot believe how this video is helpful to me! Having sat with anterior pelvic tilt posture all my life (I am 36 now) makes me feel like I am slouching when I sit straight. I no longer understand how to sit normally. Absolutely loooooove this video!!! Super needed and super helpful!

There is a second problem with sitting upright in a chair, as GuerrillaZen Fitness suggests. The problem is that most people cannot hold the upright position for more than 15 minutes before starting to slouch again. The solution is to fold a pillow so that it fits into the arch of your back so that a person can sit upright for longer periods of time. Lee Albert of the book "Live Pain Free" discusses this solution.

OMG thank you. I only found out today that "sit bones" are even a thing! As a naturally skinny person I have always sat with a very curved back to avoid the pain of sitting on them. I was trying to find out how to stop sliding out of my chair due to this. A site I found had a weird little marking under the thigh and it explained that you should be sitting over the sit bones. This blew my mind. Apparently all you normal people don't feel like you're playing a game of bloody knuckles with your chair.

I've found to fix the two latter problems, you need to change your sitting habit too: whenever possible, try sitting with your legs stretched out and at 90° to your torso and try to slide down a wall into a slavic squat and stay there as long as you can.

It depends on what is causing the anterior pelvic tilt. If the person has osteoarthritis in the hip joint, then the person cannot sit upright, as suggested in the video, but can only sit in a slouched position because the person has lost his range of motion, and the femoral head starts hitting on the socket as the person attempts to sit upright.

I tried out using lower back cushions but my lower back hurt so bad at the end of the days that now I'm here. This makes a lot of sense though it's weird that everyone promotes the back cushions. I guess they're just not for everyone.

Awesome video dude.... i so needed this. Thanks man. Wish i was close to you. I would 100% hire you to fix my back as my problems are exactly what you're talking about regarding the ATP and weak core muscles and back pain right in that spot you talk about. Is there anyway you can help me remotely? Would love to send you my contact info. Thanks!

How should I be sitting on my couch? I am 6 foot tall and my legs are too long to sit like this. And because the seat cushioning is so soft I tend to sink into anterior pelvic tilt naturally. I can put an office chair in my living room but I want to be sitting comfortably on the couch too, to watch a movie or game for a few hours. So, how can I game and watch tv without ruining my posture even more while being allowed to relax?
Edit: very helpful video by the way. Easy to understand. Thank you!
