I saw Floyd live in 1989 and they didn’t disappoint. My mouth dropped and I was stunned for the entire show. I left feeling I had been transported to an alternate reality. Your reaction was spot on!
Your reaction to this is PERFECT. Pink Floyd by definition is a trip. And this is one of their very best. That guitar solo is arguably the best there is anywhere anytime... The best Prog Rock Album ever made is Dark Side of the Moon, meant to be listened through as it's linked track to track, and it has been in the top 200 essentially every week since it was released in 1973.
Welcome to the journey of Pink Floyd. You just witnessed the greatest Band of all time. I was lucky enough to see them twice. This guitar solo as been picked from all the great artist around the world. Has being the greatest solo every written. David Guilmore can make more music out of one note than most guitarists can make out of the whole fret board... Said a guitar player once. Can’t remember who. This is most likely the best reaction I have seen to this song. Welcome to the PF World.
I think you nailed it. In many interviews the members of Pink Floyd often expressed that they were trying to create experiences in their music and their concerts. Experiences where each instrument and voice and person and light and speaker was like each individual color in a painting. None more important than the others. They saw themselves as part of the experience rather than being the reason for the experience. Brilliance on every damn level.
HAP i’m so glad you found Pink Floyd. Their music is a life-changing experience. Especially if you see it live. This whole album is a masterpiece. David Gilmour’s guitar and Roger waters lyrics. Pink Floyd is amazing and one of the best bands in history in my opinion. I hope you Listen more on your musical journey.❤️😃✌️🌼Love and peace

David Gilmore’s solo in this song is regarded by many as the best rock solo ever. It isn’t technically sophisticated, but what David does is he gives us is a supremely soulful and emotional performance that you will never forget.
The founding member, Syd Barret got the name by combining the names of his two favorite artists... PINK Anderson and FLOYD Council. Sadly, Syd Barret was sent into early retirement by the rest of the band cause he started losing his mind due to heavy LSD use. David Gilmour (the guitar god performing those solos) came in to replace him. Through the years they paid tribute to Syd by writing albums and songs about him and paid him royalties. To this day they get teary eyed when they talk about him. Pink Floyd is a rabbit hole you WANT TO jump into. Do some youtube research. I am subscribing in hopes of seeing you do more Pink Floyd reactions. I recommend TIME as your next reaction. Or Shine On You Crazy Diamond... that one is about Syd.
Should point out that the two artists the band's name is acquired from are two southern black blues musicians from the 1920s and 30s. The elements of blues and jazz you hear and their music is no joke, it comes from the real thing.
Good choice of words: “trip”. When we were listening to Pink Floyd and attending their awesome concerts, the wisdom of the day was that one could only fully appreciate and understand Pink Floyd when “tripping”, and it was meant literally ;) As you work your way through Pink Floyd, (and that will take a long time), and of course please don’t stop your Queen Quest, take a break one day and listen to Yes. Anything from Close to the Edge and or Fragile - you will be blown away yet again! Thanks, as always!!!
Best guitar solo ever, voted so by a lot of guitar magazines and for sheer emotion i agree. Seen them on the same tour in 94 in Rotterdam. Only 3 members of the band were here as Roger Waters had left 10 years before.
What an experience!! I was just like.. wow.... while the whole time watching this performance. I totally engaged with ur comments and reactions on this amazing group. I’m with ya! Hope to explore more of Pink Floyd music with you, Hap. Thanks for taking us a TRIP with ya!!!
You are listening to one song from the “Dark Side of the Moon” album. The only way to listen to this album is in its entirety. I say that because every song on the album tells the story of former Pink Floyd founder, Syd Barrett’s decent into madness. Syd was diagnosed as being clinically insane. This album is both a tribute and a commentary on how fragile Syd’s ability to cope with the world around him was. Pink Floyd was a ground breaking band. They were their own genre. You don’t listen to Pink Floyd. You experience them. Their style of music is unique and also decades ahead of the rest of the bands of the 70’s. As you have experienced their music is as relevant today as it was fifty years ago. To say they are the best ever is subjective. Rush fans would say Rush is the best ever. However, they are one of the top three rock bands to have ever existed.
If you loved this performance then you'll definitely love their performance of the song "Sorrow", also live at the same 1994 PULSE concert. If you do check that one out, make sure to watch the recent 2019 remastered/re-edited version uploaded a couple months ago as it's much higher quality and with better camera angles than the original video. It has a tonne more laser work in that performance and won't disappoint :D
Back in the 70’s it took fifteen semi trucks to haul all of Pink Floyd’s gear and show set up to a concert. It got to the point that their show got so big that they limited their live performances to a handful of venues.
Your so fun to watch you react to a new band. I’m 66 yrs old woman, when you listen to Floyd you lie back & shut your eyes cause your going on a trip. This is a true story they called the dr to get one of the band members on stage. Rule #1 of rock NEVER PALSE DURING A GUITAR SOLO esp David’s. They just sold one of David’s guitars for over a $1,000,000. You just getting started to doing the greats of rock. They all started late 60’s early 70’s Zeppelin, Floyd, Deep Purple, Stones, Queen, Black Sabbath.🤟The Pulse concert is like Queens 86 Wembley not a bad song thru the show. 🔥
She's right even if she is a youngster. I am 71 and first heard Pink Floyd in 1973, Dark Side of the Moon. If there was only one bit of music I could ever give to my grandchildren it would be Comfortably Numb, which is their single best track ever; and one album would be Dark Side.
