Elena Mukhina, my angel ❤️😇 you are the best
One of the saddest cases in gymnastics.
ELENA MUKHINA 🏆la mejor 👏👏👏👏👏
Really demonstrates just how hard it is what Simone has accomplished. She is incredible.
She is out of this world.
@@Gymnastly The US was nothing to do with gymnastics until they hired the Romanian Bela Karolyi in the 1980s.
@@kildarealeksen4140 Yes, so grateful they brought a culture of abuse to a whole new country. Even making a side eye to sexual abuse.
Svetlana Khorkina may have won more than 3 titles if the world championships had been every year instead of every two years when she competed
@@angieford2539 Larisa Latinyna for sure would have won at least 7 world titles if the world championships hadn't been every 4 years as it was back then, and people say that Biles is GOAT jumping and spinning and tumbling on soft floor and springs, lol
I liked those seventies bar routines. It was an entirely different sport with the bars that close together.
It made for very different skills and style to what we see today.
Definitely. I loved that era too.
why are they set more apart now
@@toadscastj432 it's dangerous, close bars pose more dangers as gymnasts often hit the low bar with their bellies and also to innovate, bars further apart allowed more swings and releases
Shannon Miller will always be my favorite gymnast ever. She had it all: strength, confidence, poise, skills, consistency, grace, artistry......
I think a creative idea would be all the world silver and bronze medalists in history
I love the idea, and added to my list of video requests, so hopefully I get to make those soon. Stay tuned.
It’s crazy that an American has won the AA since 2011
I mean it's been mostly Simone lol
@Chanel Oberlin LMAO
Komova deserves an entire video about her on such misses, as one of my viewers suggested, so stay tuned, I might make that video soon.
@Chanel Oberlin true
@Chanel Oberlin bitter
I remember Olga Bicherova, I loved gymnastics in the early eighties, I still do actually
Bicherova was such a joy to watch, wasn't she?
Bicherova was such a joy to watch, wasn't she?
Yes but the eighties the scores were rigged the soviet gymnasts were overated
@@dawnbaswell1853 Dear me, what a load of cr*p.
Especially after Retton in LA, Zmeskal in Indianapolis, and Team USA in Atlanta.
Not to mention the grading was modified to suit the bulldozer-like style of our athletes.
@@nuwandaltonshe is SPOT ON THE MARK about the rigging of the scores by the Soviet Union. 1988 is a prime example of how much the eastern bloc in general tarnished those games. And “bulldozer style?” What are you, a perpetual toddler? Try having at least a passing modicum of common courtesy and respect. The ATHLETES of today are at least allowed to look like human beings, rather than being forced to look like tiny, starved porcelain dolls. And the Americans you mentioned EARNED their medals, just as your precious Soviets supposedly did. Get over yourself.
You really worked hard on this. Well done!
I try my best. I'm glad you like it and appreciate it.
To think some of these AA World champions would never win an Olympic medal: Rakoczy, Mukhina, Bicherova, Yurchenko and Ferrari. (Rudko, Zmeskal, Dobre, Memmel and Sloan never won individual Olympic medals, only in the team event). And Nadia Comaneci never won a World AA medal!
It was unlucky for Nadia that she was doing gymnastics when the world championships were only held once every few years. Had there been a championship every year but the Olympic year, it might have been a different story.
Well, she was European champion three times, and at the time, the overlap between European and World was almost a full circle.
Ferrari won a floor medal in Tokyo 2021 this year! Finally after being 4th for 2 Olympics in a row she won silver.
@@nathan10120 At last!
The music is really great to highlight the Karoyli era of US gymnastics as it relates to the fall of the Soviet Union. The latter impacting the entirety of Eastern Europe to this day. Even in gymnastics.
Two things:
1. Shannon Miller was the FIRST to win consecutive years when they started doing them that way. I'm curious as to why they held 78 and 79 then went to every two years. Also, why was there no AA in 98 and 02?
2. I think what's more impressive are the women who won back to back when it was only one every 4 years (Latynina & Tourischeva). That is more impressive than winning 5 times. Proves longevity.
Why does this video not have more views??? Fantastic video loved watching it all
Thanks very much!
Savannah Peirce I know
The reason this video doesn't have that many views is that not everybody is that intelligent or intellectualy cultivated as we are...If I mention the name Simone Biles here in Belgium, people don't even have a clue who I'm talking about, and that, while her world domination actually started in Antwerp in 2013 (as in this vid). Let alone somebody else. Doesn't matter, makes you feel special..👍🇵🇷👍🇧🇪👍💓
Mustafina
Svetlana Boguinskaya’s dancing makes me SO UNCOMFORTABLE
it's hard to pull off the funk when you are that anorexic looking
@QPHashSS77CRYING
Samantha Schrager Why?
Really? Every time I watch her routines I think to myself: wow I need to carry myself with more confidence like Svetlana. Her routines really make my day when I watch them. But I guess everyone has their own interpretations.
I call that performance the 'headless chicken' absolutely atrocious choreography. I do think she's elegant and all that but that programme is horrendous.
Lilia Podkopayeva my favorite ever!
She was phenomenal.
All time favourite Shannon Miller
She is one of my favorites too.
Awesome
In 1991 the real queen is Sveta Bogi & 2011 Vika Komova deserved the gold
Many people have mentioned Komova in 2011 and how the gold should h ave been hers.
Zmeskal's win was nothing short of highway robbery.
Komova would have won gold if she hadn’t completely messed up her floor routine in several places. You can’t have two of your tumbling passes AND a major dance element get that messy and win a gold, it’s that simple. Much like 2012 and her disastrous vault. She has said so herself, and is happy with what she did accomplish in her career- including two bars world titles. Let’s be happy with her rather than putting down others.
And then Simone happened. No stopping her.
She said she's likely done after this Olympics though..
@@Andrew-pf5fj she also said in an interview immediately after her wins @ Worlds that now she's not sure yet. And "We'll see" so you never know.
Gymnast are staying longer in the sport and still proving competitive.
Every single world championships and Olympic games she has competed in, she has won, incredible.
@@Gymnastly Trash artistry throughout it though. So.
@QPHashSS77 I totally agree, just because her style isn't fragile doesn't mean it's not artistic
Is there one for floor exercise? I've seen the one for AA, beam, bars, and vault but I can't find a floor!
That will go live next Thursday. Stay tunned!
Thanks
You're very welcome.
Funny how Bicherova is rarely mentioned by fans (including myself).
She really crushed the field between 1981 and 1983.
I think it's because she is often referred to as a winner by circumstance. Love her floor routine and she did great, but all of the heavy hitters were either hurt or fumbled. It still is about who did best on the actual day and Bicherova did, so still well earned.
@@Spartakieva Yeah, it's a cruel sport, where being the best is no guarantee.
Ecaterina Szabo knows.
She was my idol and i wanted to be like her when i was a child! Funny thing I remembered her coming from Germany (Eastern) for some reason, up until like the beginning of the 2000s when I looked her up online and saw she was a soviet athlete
Elena MUKHINA the best.
She was such an extraordinary gymnast.
Así es, Elena Mukhina, the best👏👏👏
Simone is a genius. But It should have greater discounts. The current code helps.
Women's gymnastics is increasingly similar to men's. Lots of muscle explosion and little art.
Unfortunately, that is the type of gymnastics that wins medals lately, explosive and powerful, leaving behind balletics and grace.
@@Gymnastly and I am glad it is this way. Way less subjective.
It does take away from the essence of the sport, in my view. I miss the artistic in gymnastics.
@@starfishastrology9551 Same here. I miss the "real dance" on floor routines (Shannon Miller, Nastia Liukin etc...)
@@maria_haarajoki ballet isn’t the only style of dance lol
Simone Biles record is hard to beat!
World championships used to be every 4 years, then every two years. Simone was competing with 3 championships every 4 years, lol
6:41 PERIOTTTTTTTT QUEEN
It blows my mind that Nastia Liukin, the best of her quad, never won the aa in a wc. She was really unlucky, losing to Chellsie by 0.001.
It was indeed so close with Memel.
She easily would’ve won 2006 if she was there
The biggest thing that prevented her from winning the AA was injury- 2006 and 2007 she fought with ankle problems that hampered her performance. 2005 was super close. In the end though- she got the most important title of all.
Morgan Hurd's right leg looks like it's going to fly off at the knee during that beam dismount!
Shannon Miller is still my favorite.
Servemyego eew she sucks
She was amazing!
@@iruleallnothing and what have you accomplished?
QPHashSS77 Simone is the best
Jenna Leigh's Beauty Slam Simone is the best shutup
So can you tell me why they moved the uneven bars farther apart? Thanks
It allowed for new skills, extended body, faster & higher flying releases, etc.
Svetlana Khorkina
Queen
I like seeing these moves that are now banned but for good reason. There dangerous as it is. The Thomas salto, Korbut flip are amazing but Elana Mukena was paralyzed from practjng the Thomas salto but she was also practicing on a unhealed broken leg
I don't like Simone Biles.
And I’m sure that just breaks her heart to little pieces. Considering she’s the greatest of all time and you are just a mouthpiece with a keyboard- I’d say it matters very little what you think.
This video is incredible! Definitely Simone is the GOAT
She's the best tumbler ever.
But the name of the sport is ARTISTIC gymnastics.
@@nuwandalton oh please y’all define art as doing a boring classical piece and showing no emotion. Simone has fun artistry in her floor routines, her 2014 routine and 2016 routines were standouts imo. Very artistic.
@@nuwandaltonART is a wide ranging concept. This is GYMNASTICS, not ballet and not dance class. Artistry is interpretive and individual, a unique concept for each gymnast. If you want ballet, go watch ballet. Want dance? Go watch that!!
I didn't remember that Bridget Sloan was a world champion. Simone Biles can tumble but lacks artistry imo. And Shannon MIller is my alltime favorite, so elegant and precise.
Yes. Rebecca Bross was leading and had a fall in her floor routine- handing the AA title to Bridget who completed her floor cleanly.
from 1950-1978, they were held like the Olympics- every 4 years- Latynina, Caslavska and Tourischeva would all have 3-4 plus titles... Biles is extraordinary, but she does get an advantage of having them 3 years in a row- between Olympics. With the title she just added in 23- she has 6, right? I think Latynina would be around 6 also if held every year- Caslavska and Tourischeva- maybe around 4 each... Nadia would have one if they were held in 1977- hard to believe Nadia doesn't have a world all around title.
La reina Elena Mukhina 1978 y su mítico korbut retorcido, una rutina de máxima dificultad. Grande Elena Mukhina 👏👏👏
¡Grandísima Mukhina!
La mejor por siempre.
@@SM-mn1hj así es 👍👍👍
It’s crazy what ultimately happened to her. Probably the ultimate example of how evil the Soviet Union was in sports.
Svetlana Korkhina is unmatchable! ❤
There have been many others far better, more consistent- and much better sports. She won a great deal but was not someone youth should ever emulate.
2021 Angelina Melnikova
Queen khorkina ❤️🇷🇺
Queen!
Yeah, no. You can’t be the “queen=n when you never won an Olympic all around gold medal and someone else has won more Olympic and world medals AND has 5 world all around golds and 1 Olympic gold.
It looks like the 8os marked the practice of delaying puberty
Avery Bell what do you mean by that lol
@@avablomenberg5011 that before the 80s gynmast looked their age, having resched puberty. After that they looked and sounded much younger.
Avery Bell oh.. that looks to be true. how would they delay puberty? starting to make younger girls compete?

@QPHashSS77 You're very aggressive and negative towards Russian and soviet gymnasts. I think you need to calm down buddy.
Just like Simone Biles wins her 5th All-around gold medal and World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
2021 - Angelina Melnikova (RUS)
2022 - Rebeca Andrade (BRA) ❤️🇧🇷
Nadia Comăneci
It is hard to believe, isn't it? but Comaneci was never an all around world champion.
Long live the GOAT !! 😀
Amen.
Where is Catalina Ponor, Monica Rosu, Andreea Raducan?
They never won an AA world title.
When people can barley make it on the podium Simone Biles won like 7! That’s amazing!!!
5 all-around titles is hard to beat.
@@Gymnastly yes I love your videos
Thanks very much.
Elena Mukina❤
Dos Santos 👏🏻🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 queen of floor
She really was- an innovator too. I wish she’d gotten an Olympic medal but at least she was a world champion!
Simona tubo un gran error en el.suelo de.2018 y gano la de.oro ¿? Wtf¿? Otra gimnasta con otra nacionalidad la.mandan ultima.

Wow Soviets gymnasts were dominating
Not hard when the regime had control of the judges. They decided who won and got medals unfortunately.
@@saragrant9749 no ..I don't agree with you soviet athletes had been dominating the competitions since the beginning weather they were inside Moscow or abroad
@@abdoo42abood39 you don’t have to agree. History, and the actions of the Soviet Union speak for themselves. Facts are facts, whether people agree or not.
@@saragrant9749 just propaganda against the eastern block you know it's one of the arms that are used during the cold war
@@abdoo42abood39 whatever. You believe what you want. History knows reality.
Nadia Comăneci -1976
Sadly, while Nadia won the All Around at the 1976 Olympics, she was never an all around world champion.
No Catalina Ponor?
She has never been an all around world champion, sadly.
Ow okay.
World champions but they dont stuck their landings!? The last really great women's gymnastics ended with the 2008 beijing olympics!!
I think it ended before that
The sport has evolved and revolutionized. The open ended scoring system allows for small errors- properly deducted- and much more challenging tumbling and leaps to be incorporated. Just because they “don’t stick the landing cold” every time doesn’t mean the “good times” ended. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it!
Simone won the most world all-around titles. She could win the all-around again in 2020. Hope she does, and if she does, most likely she will be the first non-teenager and the first repeat champion since Vera Caslavska in 1968.
Yes!
But she has to wait until 2021
3:31 what is happening here?! 🤣
Reminds me of Nina Derwael’s routine at Worlds this year... 🤣
Hahahaaaaaa!! Right?!?!!!
Totally.
Her coaches changing her choreo from a more ballet styled performance (which she just did flawlessly and beautifully) to something "funkier" in an attempt to try something more "modern". Bad. Idea. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Where is Nadia Comaneci with her perfect 10? in 1976 Romania.
Unfortunately, Nadia was never an all around world champion, so she is not on this video.
I find it curious that Nadia, the most elegant gymnast ever, is not ever mentioned...
Also that the numerous U.S. gymnasts' clips include bobbles on the skills or hops on the landings. If this is "most graceful," these clips are either randomly chosen or--what I think--chosen with the purpose of giving subconscious visual bias against U.S. women. Certainly these don't show Biles at her best.
This is a video about the gymnasts who won the all around world championships, something that Nadia never did.
Nadia only won Olympic AA gold, never worlds. And the videos of the athletes showing little hops or bobbles are just parts of their routines that incurred little deductions but didn’t cause them to lose their title. It’s just a part of the sport itself.
Missed Dayane dos Santos
She was never an AA champion in world or Olympic competition. She was only a floor world champion.
Wow, i think in the 50-60's you can't really call them gymnasts. What they did was equivalent to a toddler's moves. No difficulty whatsoever
It was very difficult for the time and without them, Modern gymnastics wouldn't exist.
I'm sure the modern gymnasts would do the same skills with the old apparatuses. The floor had no springs, and was hard enough to get a rebound. The beam was a wooden log, and the vault was just scary, people have actually died and got paralyzed on those apparatuses.
If you believe that any from the modern gymnasts would survive back in the '50s-'60s, then you know NOTHING about gymnastics. Vera Caslavska was training on a tree log instead of a balance beam, using sacs of potatoes to build muscles before becoming the olympic champion. Next time educate yourself instead of posting nonsense online.
@@leykimayri well nowadays people can do triple fulls on grass so, it’s not rly that much of a reach
@@josephqualtier961 And who told you that people 100 years ago couldn’t do them? Did we grow wings or extra muscles or something? Or did we just have no reason to train? Huh?
