Detail, detail, detail, just the job to absorb the complexity of sail balancing. The best tutorial I have seen so far. Please continue with more instructional videos, thanks!
This is probably the best instructional video for sail trim I have seen. The animations give so much clarity to go along with your explanations. I have no idea how much time it took you to create this, but my thanks to you for providing it. Liked and subscribed. Obviously, I would love a part 2!
Love your videos. That ages old FAA explanation of "lift" with the low and high pressure... well... that has been abandoned a long while ago. It is all about the deflection of air mass on the leeward side by the airfoil having a counter reaction. Anyways... I love your vides. I am here for sailing stuff so please keep going.
These are amazing videos! I have been watching your videos for about a week now and just purchased my first sailboat last night! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience! I don't know anyone who sails and your videos are going to be what helps me get on the water!
Your videos are super cool! They really help understand the different forces involved. It must’ve been a lot of work doing all the 3-D animation, but be sure it is appreciated around the world! Thank you very much!!!
I am astonished at how eloquently you Detail pertinent information I have been trying to grasp from books and short tempered instructors. Thank you so much I was on the fence about the future…
Hi, always good to hear from you... Here is the link to part 1 of basic navigation... will look into safety on open stern sailboats, maybe one for the future. Thanks again...
Pure gold! Thank you so much for such practical, professional and educational tutorials . I started sailing in Marh and our crew is crossing the Cook Strait in New Zealand this weekend. The additional knowledge I have of trimming the sails is very COOL! 🤩🤗
Loved the animation! Way way better then a class room demonstration. Thank you for spending the time to create this. Never seen such a in depth but simple explanation!
@@searchingforcoconuts2248 hope the laptop get well soon😥,i know we are so depenant on our portable electronics ,can only imagine the dificulty it must be to repair while out on the water
@@searchingforcoconuts2248 and then there is that depreciating Rand to what ever currency is stronger out there suppose that could be a great episode theme how to survive on the ZAR conversion while traveling the world on a yacht
Very good. Suggestions: the animation should show more than one line of the wind streaming on each side of the sails. Also, the forces under water are hydrodynamic, rather than aerodynamic.

Awesome. Very informative. I love all the info and the animations are super helpful. Also, I always thought it was called "keeling" or "off keel" if the boat is leaning to one side. Is that just the american way of saying it? Or is heeling just the austrailian way of saying it? Not sure. haha. I'm just learning. Thank you!!!! Would love to see part two!
ENJOYED YOUR VIDEO - KEWP 'EM COMING! I would only offer one minor-but-important correcrion for you to consider... @1:14 you show an airfoil at a zero (0 deg) Angle of Attack and assert that at this angle (basically sailing DIRECTLY into the wind) "... the sail STALLS..." This is NOT accurate. At a zero Angle of Attack the wing the sail DOESN'T stall, in fact it orovide a LOT of "Sideways" lift :-O.... What's important to understand is that NOT EVEN THE TINIEST COMPONENT OF THIS "LIFT" IS IN THE "FORWARD" DIRECTION, making it essentially "USELESS LIFT" :-(. Instead all thos sideways lift is PERPENDICULAR to the Direction of Travel, again - USELESS. Your other sceanrio where the Angle of Attack is too HIGH , and the sail stalls IS accurate. hmmm. seems to me you jumped down to the details to quickly and focused largely on sail shape. I would start at a higher level, with an overview of points of sail/courses and talk in general how sails should be arrayed, how the physics affects movement of the boat for each course and why the sails are set up the way they are set up. then start diving into each course one at a time with a simple set up. then some advancement with sail shape, weather helm, balancing etc for each course. this video without really pointing it out to novices is mostly about close haul/beating up wind but your diagrams left a lot to be desired. I am not an expert by any means and my experience is limited to small racing cats.

Great video’s! I love watching sailing instructional videos but your videos with animations make things far clearer. Good job!
can you make a video on safety of boats with back ends open like the bigger yachts have and also one on chart navigation

How do you trim the sails to reduce lee or weather helm? I get the mechanics but not how to apply them.
quickest way is to ease out mainsheet, adjust traveller.... If you are still fighting weather helm, it might be time to reef
Thanks!

Is there a software like a sailing simulator that you are using for these videos? I would love to experiment with different settings like that
