Talking with Filipino acquaintances, the general message when it came to politics was "it's not wether or not the politician is corrupt or not. But wether their corruption benefits you"
While it does satirize what's going on, it's also meant to bring awareness so more people will know. Make no mistake as someone who lives in the US but has dozens of pinoy friends, it infuriates me how folks are giving these stronzo Marcoses and Durtetes a pass for their atrocities and boorishness.

One of the things that should be mentioned here is how we should hold social media platforms accountable for fake news especially those associated with politics such as the ones circulating in the Philippines.
Sad to say, fake news is a money making entity, the more you post, the more views, the more self-entitled opinions & discussions, the more exposure = kaching 💰
We don't need to baby-proof the entire world, we just need people to actually grow up. It's never a good idea to give the keys of authority to one person or group, even though it often seems like a great idea. Social media platforms are started, developed, and mostly run by computer nerds and tech geeks. They don't live all over the world and don't have their ears to the ground. Therefore, they likely get most of their information from the biggest and loudest sources and groups, which are usually governments and large financial interests. How then can they be the gatekeepers of information and misinformation? How can we force round pegs into square holes? Tech developers do not live in small rural households all over the world, experiencing first hand the issues on the ground. Therefore, they must not be given authority to shut down any discourse. Please tell me you're getting this now.

30 years ago when the Marcoses first returned from their exile, a Filipino journalist observed: "The Filipino people have offered the Marcoses, forgiveness without repentance, mercy without justice, reconciliation without restitution. In so doing, we have ensured the perpetuation of their tragic legacy." In 2022, those prophetic words are tragically being played out. Truly, a people deserves the leaders they get.

There are many children misinformed about martial law but from my experience it's the older generation that really latches on to this rewritten history. So many of the younger generation are trying to convince their parents that martial law was horrible, it's insane because said parents were actually there for it but they refuse to listen. You can't even have a conversation with them because they won't acknowledge any of the evidence you give them. It doesn't even feel like it's about the country and the candidate, it just feels like old people wanting to win an argument.

We, Filipinos, are laughing at this on the outside but inside, our anxiety is working double-time. When we came to the precinct at 11am, I nervously asked the poll-worker if the voting machines are ever broken. She thankfully said no and assured me that they are all fine. I was borderline panicky when I shaded the fucking ballot. “What if I over-shaded the circles?” “What if I accidentally shaded too much candidates?” Thankfully, it was relatively peaceful. None of the poll-watchers touched my ballot and the receipt matched my list. Can’t say that about the other precincts, but hopefully it goes smoother for everyone else

So apparently calling themselves a "sucessful lawyer" is sort of a trend among corrupt country leaders.

These days, people who experienced Martial Law are divided about what really happened. It can be likened to a typhoon - some people were greatly affected (people who voiced out vs the government), while some stayed dry. The dry people think it was the best time for the country - "The storm wasn't that bad."
Yes I think this is overlooked by others. They only highlight the bad things and forget that there are people who also benefited from martial law and have their own opinion about that time.
I lived in the Philippines for a year and sadly met a lot of the brainwashed "dry" people you speak of. They believe Marcos wasn't bad and that the West conspired to ouster him.
That's exactly what it is. My grandparents were in manila during martial law while my mom was in leyte. Mom remembers it as a peaceful time while my grandparents remember it as a terrifying experience.
I had family who were there during martial law and I had to study the marcos government EVERY YEAR since grade school. A lot of people think Marcos' government was "the golden era" but no, it more "guilded" (maybe even worse). Many people suffered and died all in the name of "wealth" and "greed". As a Filipino, I think we have to address the issue of gaslighting amongst our community. From experiencing it personally to seeing it en masse in the Philippines, it just becomes the norm within us without even realizing it. Shutting down our feelings and not listening to those calling out injustices just to "keep the peace." There's no "keeping the peace" if people are suffering. The revisionist history of the Marcos' and using that to gaslight those who actually suffered in the Ferdinand era is so appalling.

All of the participants research and ask people about their experience. We all worked hard. It was a hot debate that last for 2 hours. When it ended our professor ask "So what did all of you learned?". We were then task to put our answer in a one sheet of yellow pad paper. Our professor told us that the reason why he made a debate as our final project is that he wanted us to learn not only through books and the internet but learning the truth from the people that experienced it and going to a heated debate on whether it was right or wrong, to make us not see the world as black and white but as the color gray it truly was. All of us wrote that our past is horrible, full of betrayals, ignorance, pride, and greed. Our professor wanted a honest answer. He got it. He smiled and told us "We learn through history that it takes a catastrophe to start a revolution. Without a catastrophe we won't change. We won't see what we experience today if people don't want to change. So a catastrophe happen whether it be big or small it made us, change us, on who we are today. Oh and nobody won. all of you will have a perfect score."

Filipino here and just to paint a picture, vote buying is so normalized here in the Philippines that local candidates will set up group leaders for each barangay (group of families) to give them money 3 days before the election until the day. Some even give money on the day. In our city, individuals received up to 8,000 pesos (roughly 151 USD) to vote for specific candidates. In the mornings, there's been reports of polling machines "breaking down" so the people at the stations "have to" manually put in your ballots. Edit: the claims of broken machinery are true and people have been queuing up for 10+ hours to put in their votes. The stations closed 20 minutes ago but some still have not put in their vote because of the faulty machinery. One habit my grandma and grandpa had was he never drank to the end of a glass because that's where the sand and dirt used to settle. They both experienced it differently and they lived in different areas.
According to my parents, during Martial Law their life was peaceful. After Martial Law, the communists kept going to their houses in the province to ask for dinner and accommodation to sleep overnight. The people in that province were quiet not to tell anybody NPAs were there around; otherwise, you will be buried alive or just kept unknown. It happened to our close friends - buried alive. The one thing I wish this show did: *air this episode sooner* . All despite the rampant reports of broken machines, vote buying, and people trying to grab others ballot…figures that the Marcoses learned. The last time they got kicked out, it was because Comelec walked out on them the second they smelt their ballot-tampering bullshit. This year, they’ve managed to infect the Comelec by pumping it full of their allies. @@almightydummy it is, just think after cory who became presidents? ramos, erap and arroyo all are backing marcos. they have the seat the longest that's why seeking justice is hard to come by specially now that the marcoses will take seat again.
When I was in High School, our teachers brought in a speaker about Martial Law. They didn't talk about statistics or monetary growth, or the standing of the Philippines at the time. They talked about family they had lost, about loved ones that disappeared or died. They talked about what they experienced. And I remember at the end of the talk, I had asked them about how they felt when they found out that the Marcos' were allowed to return. And they said "It was a slap in the face." One wonders what those that suffered through a Marcos dictatorship must think now that the family that condoned the rape, plunder and killing of their family members, of their friends, and of their loved ones, were not only allowed to run again, but have just won the presidency. One wonders what they must think now that so many were eager to have them back. One wonders why, in a country dominated by Christian morality, by so many that call themselves god fearing were willing to look at a regime built on theft, murder and corruption, and say "Those were the good old days." Their victims must be turning in their graves. It doesn't even matter if their supporters are right and the Philippines was stronger at the time. It doesn't matter if they're still right and we'll be greater, though I doubt it. But you have too look at the price that was paid, and at the price we're still paying and at the price we'll pay. And I hope that everyone that did and does support them take a good long look in the mirror and ask themselves this, "Was the mountain corpses that they stood on, and the shit heap of lies that make up their foundations, worth it?" Whatever happens next, I hope they'll at least own up to it.
It is just so heartbreaking. I have only realized too late how I should have conversed more with my fellow Christians about this very topic. I guess finding out they support the Marcoses and Dutertes was too big of a shock that any will to understand why got knocked out of me. Still, from now on I'll try, for the hope that at least we may have a chance of turning things around. It's too sad to see others believe lies and thus becoming slaves to the suppressors of truth.
Did u ever think that it was his rivals framing them? I agree there were instances those horrific events were true but did u not think the WORLD was against him that time? Not all those were his admin's doings. The NPA were targets u know because they caused instability throughout the region causing the infamous martial Law. Filipino here. It's been more than a year since his installation as president, and boy *none of his promises were met. Of course, it's just me being pessimistic, but how can we expect the country to be better when absolutely everything else is going down to the shitdrain? There's still the rising prices, like oil, sugar, and onion of all things. There's the issue with rice that he promised to make a cheaper alternative to with the farmers being essentially put on life support as they make no profit. Drug abuse is still rampant where the authorities themselves, politicians and authorities alike, redistributing them to create their own tribal syndicates; there has been no effort to dispel these criminals, unless they've been caught red handed (such as the recent case with Usec. Bantag and Sen. Teves). He's been promising employment through travel diplomacy to let people have jobs _elsewhere_ instead of focusing on *our own* economy, since there's virtually *no support* for local business. I was always a critic of the Marcos Family and their malicious deeds, before and after EDSA, and my hope for this nation is waning by the day. There's the argument of "NoOOOOooO tHe FaThEr iS dIfFeReNt fRoM tHe SoN!!!111!" when the "good boy son" himself wanted a portion of the family wealth returned to them back in 1995 but was rejected by the Supreme Court. elibrary.judiciary.gov.ph/thebookshelf/showdocs/1/54791 Goddamn honestly the problem is the lack of education about these things. Marcos' campaign, whether successful or not, showed that there are people who were persuaded by his lies and deception, rewriting history for his own benefit instead of the people's benefit. He's never been a good candidate for a president (not that the rest were any good anyway, even Leni). This country is hanging on the ledge for dear life and I think we're not gonna last long if corruption persists.
Never expect anything with Bobo Marcos. Sadly, nothing will happen good to the Philippines under his illegitimate rule. The things that have changed are the number of parties he has attended and the funds for his travel extravaganza. 🤡

About that Nutribun thing: Nutribun bread was a form of foreign aid from the United States Agency for International Development. It was developed as a "ready to eat complete meal" to combat severe child malnutrition in the Philippines during the rule of Ferdinand Marcos. His wife Imelda Marcos then took credit for the Nutribuns as her own initiative by stamping the bags with "Courtesy of Imelda Marcos-Tulungan Project" even though they were actually donations from the US. At the present, there are Bongbong Marcos supporters claiming they missed the taste of Nutribun from their youth and are hoping that their grandkids will be able to taste it during Bongbong Marcos' rule, not realizing it was created because people were starving under the regime of his father.

Biden’s misinformation act took heat but it was extremely necessary in my opinion.
Sure, that'll happen when the social media platforms are owned by billionaires and their corporate cronies...
@@brushstroke3733 ‘Kay, so what do we do then? Because clearly we can’t do nothing, and waiting around for people to “grow up” is tantamount to that.

Today at the election sites, people are given "sample ballots" with the names of officials listed to vote for. People are handed a small piece of paper with Bongbong Marcos and his group to vote for.

Same....sadly....very shameful for us all Pinoy's,..
on my father's death anniversarry our whole family gathered by his grave and nonchalantly talked about how horrible Martial Law was for our town during their time, to the point where people caught outside after curfew hours were shot or arrested on sight and treated as communist terrorists, including women and children. they talked about how our aunts grands and parents, come near the start of curfew find the nearest house (even if it was a stranger's), to seek shelter for the night. it became a sort of custom where you'd never turn down a stranger for seeking shelter in your home. just to escape the actual death squads... one of my great aunts even had the bullet wounds and scars to prove it and another elder was shot to death in her own home on the accusation of harboring communist straglers,... so we the children asked, why was everyone was out and about when death was practically waiting outside . . . our elders said, everyone was struggling, they needed to find work or sell goods.. they needed to get food. makes me think what if my dad was caught in one of those times... i wouldn't have been born... also for those who got caught and innocently killed. they were robbed of their future.
Not so fun in Poland during the martial law too. A question, did your guys also restricted transport and communication between cities?
while i can't compare my own family's experiences to some of the cruelty others experienced, yes, Martial Law in Metro Manila (OMG the hotbed of communist rebellion armies!!) meant my that parents/uncles all spent some time in jail for simply leaving dinner @ friends' homes too late, and trying to sneak back home after curfew. And I remember at the end of the talk, I had asked them about how they felt when they found out that the Marcos' were allowed to return. And they said "It was a slap in the face."
One wonders what those that suffered through a Marcos dictatorship must think now that the family that condoned the rape, plunder and killing of their family members, of their friends, and of their loved ones, were not only allowed to run again, but have just won the presidency. One wonders what they must think now that so many were eager to have them back.
That says it all.

Marcos was the true hero and not Ninoy Aquino. Philippines was flying high, until Marcos was booted out of the presidency when the widow Cory Aquino lost in the election and resorted to a people revolution. After Marcos, the Philippines slid down to a sorry state. For three decades the Aquino party lorded it over the filipino people and kept disseminating information about the horrors of the Marcos regime. However they never lift a finger to alleviate the lives of the filipinos. After all those years, the people realized it was better during Marcos time.. and now overwhelmingly voted for Marcos' son BBM with a landslide victory. Expect the Philippines to fly high again with BBM's administration.

Hello. I was born and raised in the Philippines. I migrated here in the US a decade ago. I want to share with you about something when I was young. I had been raised by my aunt who had lived under Marcos Sr. before, suffered badly, but survived then. She specifically told me about Imelda's shoes that she bought those from billions of stolen money, the money that should be for the poor and such. I talked to her last night here in the US and she voted in the morning when I called her, she told me that she voted for Marcos and I felt such disappointment and was sorry for her. It saddens me that the woman who raised me already forgot about what happened to her in the past. Half of my relatives there are pro-Marcos too and they just believe what they see on social media. My heart breaks that my fellow countrymen will suffer for the next six years if Marcos wins. I really pray for my country that they will see the light after this election.
Welcome to living in the age of social media. It's just too easy now to sway people's minds
If you make a make up story make it believable please? 🤣
I'm an old white guy at this point. I live in Daly City California a prominently Filipino community. It was married to a wonderful Filipina for 42 years. She was always disappointed that the Filipino community in the Philippines voted against their interests and put up with marcos. And here they go again electing the son of the man that looted their treasury. All though, those of us in the United States should not judge them too harshly! Especially considering the last 4 years of trump and the scourge of trumpism with the possibility of him getting reelected in 2024. Personally I sort of doubt that he will get reelected. On the other side of that coin I wouldn't be surprised if he did. We are pretty stupid!

I think it's important to mention the significance of this blatant rewriting of history. A lot of people are laughing at how ridiculous these lies are, but I think a lot of Filipinos feel unsafe expressing they disagree. Sure, I have family here in the US with genuine and mixed feelings about the Marcos dictatorship. But, I noticed that when approaching these topics with family in the Philippines they seemed to react fearfully. In fact, they cut off communication with me shortly after.
This is going on in a lot of places. Scary to watch or listen to.
It makes me wonder if those children at the school don’t believe the lies but had to say them because they were on TV and were afraid to disagree publicly
dont just judge immediately FYI. those students in the video are from.the Marcos hometown and eversince they are praised and heroes and they are just use as tools to create stories for social media. If you just observe from the interview they even feel hesitant to answer becuase they are aware that it was a media.and afraid that it might trouble in the Department of Education. and FYI this is an old recycled video and FYI even alot of critics throw the baddest words marcoses never fought back they just stay humble and continue serving good to their constituints thats why they gain more support specially they who throws stones is a very corrupt officials..
