I want a residency in FM, it is amazing speciality. Also as a FM physician you can perform minor surgical procedures in rural areas which is very helpful for the patients.
Yes! FM is amazing!
which got less surgical procedures FM or IM? also which got less procedures?
@@t-10heavytank57 FM get more surgical procedures
I currently see a Family Doctor… And she is absolutely wonderful… Much like you! You guys are the best because you can relate to all ages… So Thank you for all that you do Dr. Jen!! God’s continued blessings to you!!
Aww thank you!

You’re welcome Dr. Jen! Truly My Pleasure! 😇
Thanks for clarification
Always welcome
I’m here because I’m searching for a better doctor to be my primary care doctor. All doctors are awesome they save lives. But I think I’ll go for an internist doctor I believe that’s the reason they don’t study all ages like family doctor does is that they focus on older adults with critical issues that are more complex.
You make a good point but it's overall adult care in general. I know alot of adults with complex or cronic healthcare issues that choose to see an Internist.
Your enthusiasm is contagious. :D ty for this info
Aww thanks
If I were a doctor, I would be an endocrinologist as I amazed at what the thyroid does. I would choose internal medicine. I am also a thyroid cancer survivor.
Yes the thyroid is amazing and so grateful you’re a survivor! Yay!
Great explanation. As a NP student for adult geri primary, now I understand why I keep being sent to work with internal medicine MD’s. I didn’t get it. Now I do
I've always had it in my head that an internist is a doctor that specializes in adult care for those with cronic conditions. I've switched Primary Care Clinics due to insurance coverage and now have a nurse practitioner who is an internist. I did call the clinic to ask if this would be more money for medical care having an Internist specialty. I had made it clear when I initially called why I was changing to their clinic and that I needed a doctor in family practice for insurance coverage. I was told Internists are considered family practice and they thought I'd be more comfortable seeing one. I came in not knowing any doctor here so had to rely on the receptionist's discretion. I'm an older women and hope my comment will help someone understand better. It's not about adults with cronic conditions it's about adult care in general.
Dr Jane, Thank you very much indeed for the clarification of Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. Dr P. Biswas, Family Physicians, Kalimpong, India.
Glad it was helpful!
@DrJenCaudle do family doctors have there own medical place where people can also go alone and then the docter asks whats wrong listens to you breath, your hart etc and Give you a page of medication that you need?
I go to a GP family med dad goes to an internist feels like they can deal with the broad spectrum of issues better
Not necessarily true, but ok!
@@DrJenCaudle TY
And the biggest one, FM can see OB patients!!!
yes!
Wonderful explanation. Am medical student and I love family medicine. What which kind of specialities do family medicine doctors?
Um womens health, headache, sports med and a few others!
Do internal medicine(managing only OP and not IP) earn a little more than Family medicine doctor in USA?
Often they do but not always
So if a person is 16 years old, they cannot be seen by an internal doctor? If a person at this age feels unwell, should they be seen by a pediatrician in the hospital?
They should see an outpatient pediatrician or a family doctor
Thank you Doctor ❤️ good information.
No problem
@@DrJenCaudle I'm with you.
Thank you doc... I'm so lost with my career right now and i'm probably transfer from IM to FM... I really don't know.. Its probably due to my lack of confidence and training.. 4months of IM and i am burned out.. Maybe i'm just too young?? Anyways.. Have a nice day, Doc.
Are you an intern?
@@DrJenCaudle omg thank you for noticing me!!! I was a resident for just a few months straight out of board exams. Then due to the pandemic we have limited face-to-face training and I new I at least needed to get a headstart. Luckily i was hired, but I ended up taking a break as advised. Now i have considering Fammed once the hiring season begins..
I need to find a internal medicine doctor in the Kansas City area. I would like to have a person of color and a female. But, most of all I need a good doctor. Where should I start looking and how would I select a good doctor?
You can go to osteopathic.org to find a DO doctor like myself!
ugghhhh i cant choose lol because i would love internal and family jeez lol but i got pre med school time to think about all this lol but i love you already so much
Can I know which residency is harder academically between family medicine and internal medicine? Am currently pursuing MBBS and planing to move to Canada
They’re both hard- it just depends on if you want more outpatient (fam med) or inpatient (internal)
So is family medicine the same with Gp please?
Yes
Look, let's not beat around the bush here. Family doctors are superior to internists as they are not only trained for adult medicine (ie. 21 and older) but also OB, peds, and surgery pts. Let's say that you want to be a hospitalist (ie. a doctor that wants to work at a hospital). The internist used to be more favored, I'm unsure why though. Now hospitals see the value family physicians offer because when an OB pt is admitted to the hospital and is in a more dangerous state, the fam doc is more ready to stablize this pt than the internist. Both in the end will consult an OB doctor but the internist is less ready to treat this pt adequately sooner. I used to be in internal medicine residency but switched to fam med mainly because I realized I don't want to subspecialize, I would be a better and more competitive hospitalist, I want to be trained in all ages instead of just adults, and I find there to be more money in FM.

Family Medicine Internel Medicine. Best?Plz Reply
Both are good
Family Medicine is best! #FamilyMedicine 😀
Yes!
Does the Internal Medicine doctor managing only OP (not IP) earn a little more than Family medicine doctor in USA?
US health-care system is pretty bad.All patients should pass through a family physician at first contact. If there is a need, the FP will refer you to see an internist.
While a FP has a broad knowledge, which make his approach wholistic,an internist knowledge is deep and restricted which enables him to be able to handle uncommon adult cases. Also,a FP will pick an undiagnosed hidden illness faster than an internist due to the broad knowledge. If the case is an adult medical case, there might be a need to refer.
Self referal leads to fragmentation of care,a family physician will coordinate the care when necessary.
Its seems the role of a family physician is too complex for laymen to understand. Let me put it this way,a FP will has 60 percent knowledge of everything while an internist is expected to know 100percent of Adult medical cases
Internist is my favorite, family doctors do have there place just not for me.
awesome, and i totally understand!
I see both I see a heart doctor and I see a family doctor a do in fact
Yay!
Is it true as a doctor “milligrams” don’t make a difference in the body . ? So if you prescribe a medication that’s 5 mg and then change the drug to prescribe a 150 mg? There is no difference between them two ? Or is that a lie ? A doctor told me that it didn’t made a difference to my body . And I just want to make sure she can be trusted .plus I know I had gotten side effects but she said I was wrong . Just want to make sure
I love U
☀️❤
About $20. I'm sorry, I will now go stand in the corner.
That was the worst review ever basically an eternist knows much more about medicine if you're an adult you should go to internal medicine doctor
What?!
@@DrJenCaudle I think what he’s saying is while FM can treat and see adults, internists are usually a little more equipped and experienced to handle complex medical issues for adult patients. The difference being that the concept of internal medicine was born from a movement wanting to understand in depth scientific knowledge of disease for adults. Internists are considered “adult specialists” versus FM being more of a generalist. That being said, it always depends on the on the individual physician. Some FM docs can be more knowledgeable than Internists about adults, and vice versa.

I can’t believe you spent 4 minutes saying nothing Dr.
You’re pretty mean
Sorry, every time I go to UA-cam looking for information I have to listen to nothing for 5 or 6 minutes so the UA-camrs can get more viewing time, and they say nothing. I know your just looking for more view time, I don’t blame you. You’re a nice person
Thanks doc. You did great. Now I understand better.
