    What a great video. Thanks for taking the time. When I got the email about the Nexus 2 I was really excited. I have 7, 9, and 13.5 Nexus. (Also a bunch of XRs.) I love jumping the Nexus on my foil board. I'm close to 50' so far. My only real complaint with the kite is the reverse launching. Glad to see that's been addressed. Also the knots in front that you mentioned. We have to drift launch a lot at home where I live and I have had my lines get stuck on those knots. Core is doing a great job. I'm amazed. You don't see team riders making videos like this of many of the other brands. Great work Steven.... really really appreciate your videos.

      Hey Axaroth
      Thank you for this comment, it means a lot and drives me to create more. The knots is always something I've been annoyed with, especially when foiling I would often get it stuck.
      Keep on rocking the foil man! 50 feet is huge!! Did you mount a WOO on your foil board?

      @@stevenakkersdijk Awesome man. I know what a pain in the ass it is making and editing videos. Thank you so much for your effort. Also I love Core kites and Carved Boards..... anything you are doing to make them better, I also appreciate. I do have a Woo on my board. My name is XXXXX XXXXXX if you want to look me up on the Woo haha. ;) I try to always tag Core on my sessions so hopefully more people can learn of the glorious capabilities of the Nexus (and XRs.) Here's a gorgeous drone video of me and some friends jumping a mangrove island in South Padre, TX last year. What kite and what setting should I use for strapless freestyle? Not wave, Core 720 practicing freestyle on flat water? Currently hung up Duotone Neos and using GTSs but I seem to be in a rut in progression and could use some help. On side note: I would like a Core 720 in black carbon like the new Magnets... My 720 is getting dented from all the hard landings I guess.

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +2

      Hey, personally I would use the wave or the middle setting. It is quite nice to have the power on demand when you need it in those strapless tricks. And usually you're not to powered up (overpowered) so the stiff frame is not necessarily needed.
      We are working on some new 720, not Carbon like the Fone magnet, but you'll love it! It's also a lot stronger than the previous versions.

    Great informative video! Has the AR of the kites changed? Nexus 2 looks a bit lower AR in the video, but maybe it's just the wider wingtips. Any difference in upwind angle between v1 and v2?

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +1

      For as far as I know the AR stayed the same, or only changed slightly with the widening of the tips. Looking at the upwind angle there hasn't been much change either, but this also wasn't needed in my opinion.

  • @Baschtl34
    @Baschtl34 4 роки тому

    Great review there! You said it‘s not very suited for unhooked riding. What does that mean? Does that mean you can get the basics done but you will probably have problems with double passes? Or does it resemble a high-performance freeride kite’s feel (lile the xr or the rebel)? I‘m especially interested in the 10m-12m sizes

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Sebastian
      When I say it's not ideal for unhooked riding I mainly mean for the high end unhooked tricks (handlepasses) I would still freestyle with it, but the GTS or Impact will behave better. (more slack and better bar feedback)
      When comparing it to the XR or Rebel you'll for sure be better off unhooking on the Nexus, as it does have a future C-shape and improved bar feedback.

    Brilliant informative video - I lol'ed when the wind started blowing. I was drying my kites on 'windless' day and was on edge very any little movement!
    The Core intelligent trim function is very interesting.
    I ride XR4's and my aim for riding is specifically big air / freeride.
    What knot settings would you suggest to optimize these kites? For big air?
    I have bridle in middle knot on leading edge.
    Then I have the wing-tip knot on the highest point (closest to trailing edge) as this should make steering faster and result in higher jumps?
    I dont know enough about it though.

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah the wind made for some interesting moments 🙈
      To be completely honest the XR is the only kite where I havent played around with it that much. But the principles should be fairly similar.
      The know closest to the center of the kite will allow the kite to open up more and give you slightly more depower and lift I think. But you will miss a bit of stability. If its stability you want (incase you unhook this kite) I would go for the know closest to the wingtip. But the middle is always designed with the perfect balance in mind, so you should be good there.
      The steering line attachment only has an affect on the steering pressure, so use whatever you feel comfortable with

    • @lifeofgarrick
      @lifeofgarrick 4 роки тому

      @@stevenakkersdijk thanks for that, I will try the knot closest to middle of kite to see if that can give me some more depower to edge harder.
      When you speak of steering line attachment I'm assuming that is the 3 wingtip loops where you can change turning speed? Or are you referring to the 3 knots where pigtails can connect to?

  • @Lkjhgt465

    Great video. Would you say you could go for a bigger range between sizes due to the amount of settings you can tweak? I normally ride a 7m and 9m but considering going 7m and 10m on the nexus 2. I mostly ride surfboard but also a bit of twintip

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +1

      It's always possible, but the settings don't magically add or remove a meter on your canopy. I think 7 and 10 will be fine, personally I ride 8 and 10 Nexus2. If you're fine with maybe grabbing a twintip if it's just to strong and not strong enough for your 7 on a surfboard, you'll be completely fine.
      Don't think this will happen often though, but you might have to ride the 7m on the low end edge.

    Yo Steven, do you leave the deflate- cleat in the valve after rolling up your kite? I'm wondering if this damages the kite.

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +1

      I do and I've never experienced problems with it. There is the possibility when you pack it super super tight that it slightly damages the kite canopy, but as mentioned I never had that.
      When you leave it in for a very long time (half a year) without pumping the kite it could be that it doesn't close proper any more when you pump it for the first time. If that happens, just pump it up hard a couple of times and the valve will reform in the right way.
      Hope that answers your question

    Hi I have a 9 and a 12 XR7 that I use for free ride and boost hight with my twin tip. I am 93 kg and I like go ride a bit over powered and XR7 are great for this. I don't like to ride big kites so in light wind days I sometimes miss a section with my 12 XR7 thats why I am getting into kite foil. So my question is, should I get a 12 m Nexus or Xlite for foiling? I am thinking that a 12 Nexus or XLite combined with a 10 and 8 XR7 will cover all my conditions. I am just note sure if I go for a XLite or a Nexus once with the Nexus I can also have great 12 sections with my twin tip and perform jumps in the future with the foil in the other hand I will loose the light kite that the Xlite is. Can you suggest me what you think its best?

      @stevenakkersdijk  2 роки тому

      Hey Epra
      I'm sorry for the late reaction. I'm a really big fan from the Nexus, so I would say get a Nexus as it's way more versatile than the X-lite.
      In the really lightwind conditions the X-lite will be a bit easier to fly due to the weight. But when the wind picks up, you'll be happier with the Nexus as it's a steadier frame. Especially for our weight.
      If you're allright with losing 2 knots of low end in exchange for 5 knots of high end and an allround kite that does better in almost everything. Then get the Nexus 😉

      It all depends a bit on the wind you have. The Section and Xlite both drift better than the Nexus2. If the wind is often light I would take the Xlite, but this is a foil only kite.
      If the winds are a bit stronger you'll probably enjoy the Section a lot, also an amazing kite when the wind does pick up enough for surfboard session.

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +1

      The only thing you'll change is the bar pressure, in theory the possible radius you can pull with it stays about the same. BUT, as the steering pressure increases maybe you won't pull hard enough and therefor it makes a bigger radius ;-)
      I used to change my steering lines to most bar pressure, as I was used to that from C-kites. At the moment I always leave that one on the standard knot though, which is usually light bar pressure. This especially comes in handy when I do kiteloop boardoffs.

    • @stevenakkersdijk

      From the Ripper2 to Ripper3 the biggest change was in the tail shape. It went from a squash to a round tail providing more control in the bigger waves.
      The big change is from Ripper3 to Ripper4. The board got shorter whilst keeping the width. Volume shifted more forward allowing for a smaller swallow tail. This means you'll have the control in the fast turns, but way more surface area to ride on in the smaller waves. Because you ride it about 5 inch shorter than the ripper3 it's more agile as well.

That means that you'll appreciate the position where the kite depower the more (waves) and that's the position where the kite opens it's shape the more, which also helps for a better hang time.

    • @stevenakkersdijk
      @stevenakkersdijk  4 роки тому +1

      Drift is: when you're riding downwind on a wave and your kite flies with downwind keeping tension on the lines.
      So a kite with good drift will keep tension in the lines when riding downwind. A kite with bad drift will provide slack lines and fall out of the sky.
      For a wave kite drift is super important
      For a big air kite drift is a lot less important

    I took the Nexus 2 out for a ride yesterday. I used the ''very easy" bar pressure knot at the tips and felt like having less lowend with the twintip. Is that knot more designed for teaching and wave?

      Hey MJ,
      The knots on the tip of the kite only change bar and steering pressure, so the low and high will not be affected. Did you connect the steering line on the first or second knot option? This does have a huge effect on the low end of the kite. I always suggest to connect the steering line on the knot closest to the kite, this will deliver the most power.
      If the wind is to light and the kite backstalls for some reason, you could always depower a little bit with the adjuster above the bar.
      Hope this helps.
