Pretty logical, right? How can do less for the same result? it takes practice but it can be done if you successfully skip some of your steps! Thanks for watching! Binge other videos! Enjoy the channel, MORE VIDS soon. 500K subs in 2020, Impossible?
Whyt Manga When I saw this video I finally found out why it takes me a little time to complete a drawing
This video is pretty logical, it makes a lot of sense. You did a good job getting to the point, thanks a lot man! 🧠✊🏽
You're amazing and I'm glad you talk about this! I do all plants and nature without any sketching, I ink right away. Then I draw my characters nude , and then the clothes on without sketching. My sketches are very fast, but I put the most effort in the face expressions. In this way I'm able to draw about 3 pages per day, about 3 to 4 hours per page.
Ps. I also draw animals without sketching.
Sometimes sketching saves time as well when you don't yet know how to draw something. But when you know what you're doing, sketching can make you slower indeed ! You're getting funnier and better every time ! I look up to you Odunze !
Kim Jung Gi is a LEGEND.
The irony is I thought you were gonna say practice like that's the only thing, but you still need to do it even after working smarter 😩😂. Taking notes nonetheless 👏🏾👏🏾
YUP! Practicing is a given, even though I still mention it in there somewhere, it's gonna time and practice too. Skipping the step while trying to maintain quality will fosho GUARANTEE saving time regardless.
Practice makes proficient.
I may steal that.
Whyt Manga Go for it!
I started drawing without sketching and I got like 20% faster then I skipped inking and I got 40% faster. But honestly, when I do good inking nothing beats the quality of that lineart.
But then when I post online nobody notices the difference...
Sometimes my non Inked stuff gets favorited more than my finished art...
Skipping lineart was my strat' lol
spent 10 hours on a drawing, didnt do a sketch just started at lineart and i have only finished the head and neck...
Much of my drawing time is spent on finding shapes by drawing and redrawing lines, decision and indecision. So much of my drawing time goes to not so much. I also do to much in one layer, it gets to messy. I don't want to redraw a refined version in a new layer because I hate to redraw, but when I work on fixing my mess I always end up redrawing even more (with lots of erasing). So this video in that regard has been helpful. I'm also thinking about redrawing my latest work in a short set time and see if I have learned anything. Thanks for the video.
I've been drawing without rough sketches ever since I learned I had a passion for art
I hate sketching, then inking my entire outline and hair and stuff of my comic. It takes a ridiculous amount of time. Good thing we have a modern way to draw art faster, now, and not use conventional method.
Sketching saves me so much. Just like Whyt said it looks like a guide and the final piece looks quite different than the sketch. Well Digitally XD.
I remember not having as many steps to drawing as I do now (my new steps are: Drawing a Stickman, Drawing a very rough anatomy sketch, a better refined sketch, and then lineart xd). I remember I just used to just sketch without drawing anything anatomically correct (I still do, but it looks wayy better now), but I usually just did this traditionally (cause I didn’t know how to digitally draw correctly xd). But I think I could leave out the Stickman step and just draw a rough sketch, refined sketch, and then lineart. Or, I could just do a rough sketch and then a refined sketch and just color from there.
He said he has drawn MORE than ppl think. He took years off while in the military and would draw in his mind. 🤯
I actually started digital art without the refined drawing step I always moved from rough to ink(added a semi rough for more detailed artworks) xD
You really stayed true to the regular uploads. Nice work
Yes I need this... thanks for another great and helpful video.
J_DA_GOD ! I know right.
That’s what I was thinking so useful.
Excellent video.
For about 6 months now, I have made the jump towards eliminating one sketch phase entirely, and most of my sketches now tend to be refined. At first, the process was slow and frustrating, but I eventually hit a strong milestone, seeing immediate results. I now shave at least 30 minutes to an hour from my drawing time.
This tip is something that actually helps, and I'm happy that you are someone who is genuine in giving real advice for artists. There's too many art creators on this platform who honestly give some of the worst advice I've ever heard.
Cheers,
-Meow
Practicing that method right now. Pray for me 😂
I suggest everyone to try and do no pencil lines and commit to pen instantly I does help you improve your accuracy, confidence and less care for every line.
I can freehand now...
And you can to.
It really does. For inktober 2019 I decided to do just pen no pencil at all and saw some improvements, and I enjoy drawing with just pen now!
what do you mean?
@@kae2831 drawing with a pen helps with not having to repeat the same lines over and over again(erasing). When your using a pen, its helping you memorize those lines the correct way
I used to only draw with pens when I first started drawing. But then I started realizing that scratching out mistakes just wasn't worth it for me, so I decided to stick with pencils
I exclusively use pens. the kind with the tip. no gel. no ball point. just ink.
if I make a mistake, if it's correctable, I black out the lines with shading. if not I start all over again. I don't like erasing.
i do everything free hand also. sometimes if I'm not sure about an angle I use a reference, usually myself, but usually I don't have to.
I can draw a full picture, not colored, in 30 min. full detail with foreground, middle ground, and background.
that's traditionally.
digitally it take me 3 hours. but then again I'm using a mouse and keyboard.
I'm finally able to afford a tablet.
yay
I just realized, Is This Leeroy???? That priest character you came up with along time ago, if so is he making a comeback
You a real OG subscriber for that catch! He may make some kind of comeback...
I used to skip rough sketches and went straight for the finished polished product but it took me longer in the long run because I had to stop and correct form and gestures. Now that I’m working digitally I love doing the rough sketch first then drawing over it.
Awesome tips. I find that using a reference helps the drawing process go much quicker. Your art is always on point. Looking forward to the next video!
Idk if you feel comfortable answering this, but how do you feel financially by doing comics?
Im already aware that pursuing art for a career means ill have to deal with being a little broke lol, but I wanna know how a down-to-earth comic artist like you holds up, and if you feel like youtube is almost a necessary supplement. I have nothing but respect for you bro, more life 💛💛
There's been times where I've done decent art without doing a rough sketch, but I knew before watching this that my process, the one explained in this video was already good, I start off with a mainly stick silhouette, takes roughly 10 - 20 seconds, then I add the definitive points, like where the hands, feet, shoulders, knees, and sides (I say sides because most of my drawings usually have some form of contouring to it, like if someone jumped over a table and their body made a soft L shape), and from there I do my final sketch, I don't ink yet, not confident enough, but I feel content knowing that what I've drawn will be recognizable by anyone young and old.
I should mention I'm a traditional artist, due to not owning and kinds of electronics besides my android.
I think you deserve more subs , you’re my favorite UA-camr for sure 🙌👍
Here that UA-cam?! I'm Yanick's fav youtuber! Where's my 1M subs? lol thanks man. I'll keep working hard.
Whyt Manga yes keep up the good work , I’ll be there for the one mil special 🙌😁
and you inspired me to make my own manga , I was doubting to start or not but you pushed me and I can’t thank you enough for that !! 😁✌️
This video is really really helpful! Thank you so much! I would always get so discouraged whenever I saw an artist who could draw without even doing a sketch and just goes in with their ballpoint-pen and everything turns out as perfection. At first I wanted to be able to do it as well, but as I kept seeing more and more artist (some even the same age or just a little bit older than me) being able to easily draw like that. I started to feel discouraged and ashamed (?) for not being able to be as good as them. But thanks to your helpful tips, I can start my journey on trying to be able to draw without a sketch, by slowly getting rid of some processes I probably don't need. Again, Thank you much for those helpful tips!!
I keep doing the rough sketch and other steps, because I thought it was a rule.
You probably get this question all the time, but Ive just recommited myself to digital art and am finding it hard to find a brush I like and I really love the look of the brush youre using. If you dont mind sharing what brush are you using/software is it in?
“A lil more Kpop” fasho 😂
Fantastic advice! I’ve given up on various projects because it took too much time outlining over and over. Skipping that step will come in handy!
This is definitely something I need to improve on. I'm currently studying storyboarding, and I found from talking with those who work in the industry that speed is key in getting things done.
very useful information. Never actually thought about this as an artist. Also waht brush do you use when inking, i like the way the brush stroke looks.
It’s easier to do it traditionally trait kinda and easier to look back if you did it all in pencil. Done it digitally it was a hassle and didn’t give the style some want to give. This is helpful video to keep.
I just wanna say..... I love your music! Imma need more heat in 2020! 😤 Keep up all the great work! I’ve had the privilege of watching Saturday a.m and your channel grow so much! Shoutout to all other OG subs!!!
Basically be a better you that you can be
loving the regular uploads man :)
Either way you're fucking incredible dude. I really hope someone picks up apple black and makes it an anime
I need to do the rough sketch as quickly as possible first, and do the final draft after. I do not need to accurate with underlines, only just draw what I meant to draw.
You’re not using antialiasing when u draw 😲 ??? Nice vid btw
Not in this vid at least lol
I'm always gonna draw with a rough sketch. It may be slower but it helps me so much. But you do make some points I agree with. I won't stop making my roughs but maybe this time I might make smaller versions of them and make my picture based on that.
This is definitely worth trying, thanks!😁👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Awsome video as always. Also love the lighthearted tone.
this is what pushed me to stop inking altogether, besides me liking my finished work more without the inked lines.
Kim Jung Gi gets so annoyed when peeps outside of Asia ask what pen he uses.... cuz nobodies seen a brush pen before. But us manga fans know heeheeheeee BRUSH PEN RULES lol... thanks for the vid Mr. Manga!😀😁👍 Kuretake makes a great brush pen.
Jim Lee also does this; dem old asian doods, putting erybody t'shame, lol
Thank you for the lesson sensei
I’m just fanboying when you mentioned Kim Jung Gi at this point.
this helped so much THANKS MAN!!!
You're welcome!
I feel like my process has too much steps. But I am a perfectionist so I can’t help it
Samee
even at his level he'll still screw up here and there, and points it out during live drawings
As long as I know what I'm looking at in the rough sketch myself, I'm good. I'll clean up pencil sketches if someone else has to ink it...How I wish I had someone to work with. Also that bit you mentioned about "practice makes perfect", my martial arts instructor told me "perfect practice, makes perfect". You can learn to do something wrong basically lol (beware some of the how to draw manga books)
lol, your martial arts instructor is a wise man😂
hey, you wanna check out my new comic/manga on my channel?
Legit one of my favorite vids by you
I'm glad I've always been too impatient for a sketch lol I'm no kim (whatever his name) is yet but I'll get there!!! I love your vids they arent boring
Dude I’ve literally been training myself to do this this past weekend lol. Freaky timing coming across this vid.
I do this myself, quick pencil sketches, ink them on tracing paper, upload then color
You ever tried drawing in adobe animate ? It used clean vector lines so you don't get that pixelated look and it pretty amazing plus coloring your illustrations is simple as a filling a shape
I skip my lineart step by making my sketch really nice and clean then just changing it to all black
i personally think it should be refined sketch to fine lines
a drawing that goes from rough sketch straight to linework will usually look wonky and not proportioned correctly
and going to fine lines from that, altering those fine lines so much is going to make them blurry and you'll just have to line again. ya feel?
Completely up to you which step you skip.
Oof that is going to be hard mentally. But imma try for you Whyt!
Yeah, I use rough for the poses then less rough to know how the details will look like before inking.
Nice thought, but inking takes forever (tons of control-z) when you are not confident enough.
you have to think a lot before drawing... imagining what you're going to draw... the perspective you're going to draw... so it takes time... I want to get out of sketching... I want to draw without sketch this is mine objective, but for that I must use the sketch for a while to understand my line... the shapes, the structure... then take the risk to do without a sketch
It's called shorthand method a lot animator use it when drawing the character only to Catch shillouette and gesture ,and then detail comes later
I use only one rough , but two or even three would be much better for me .
Nice vid!
THANK YOU.
0:38 cheers for the cheeky cameo 😉 lmao
I fuckin love you bro
Katsuya Terada and Kim Jung Gi are literally wizards
5:22 Manga Mandark!!!
I feel like practice makes progress
That is super awesome. Love your artwork. I like to skip the sketch work also. I made a video that also might help you as an artist draw basic outlines outlines faster, so you can get straight to the coloring, painting, and shading of your art. Though it’s more to speed up you paper drawing and sketch and not digital art. The video title is “want to draw faster”?
I also follow Kim jung gi and agree, that man is a wizard 🧙♂️.
Are you taking notes from Ethan?
"It's like K-pop and Rob Liefeld had a baby" I lost it laughing...Rob Liefeld...of all artists to reference...Whyt Manga has a sense of humor...love it.
But...Kim Jung Gi on the other hand, there are few others like him...if this were One Punch Man, he would be Saitama in that universe.
ur drawing is amazing!!!!
You’re a wizard Harry... I mean Kim jung gi
Keep up the good work
Honestly, I draw worse when I do the textbook “mapping” than when I just draw it out. I guess I have anxiety when trying to do it “right” rather than just trying to have fun.
i usually do a rough sketch to get the poses and perspective right then i'm doing the final line art. i waste a lot of time with coloring
I've been doing drawing without rough sketches and ideas and practice before I knew about art tutorials, then I got to know about art tutorials and yes I got better but...
But what ?
I want to do draw like how I used to before art tutorials.
@@ShovelLettuce well I wish you good luck.
That's pretty impressive
I tried try to watch this 2x the speed, now im drawing super fast!
Unpopular opinion.
Draw over a pose model/reference. Saves tons of troubleshooting later on if you messed something up
I need my secondary guidelines or else imma get lost real fast
I draw slow asf (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`) 🎩✨Wizard
I've been doing this for a while now though.
Oh i already do this
Amazing Art 💙You
I work in reverse, actually I master drawing without sketching, then I begin to sketch
I wanna be a wizard. Teach me to be a wizard!
good job. :)
Mine was always less rough with shadow. No rough or fine.
I just can't skip the line thickness, and its probably wht eats away most of my time...
I know this is out of the subject but
5:03 his voice is just like kokichi's from danganronpa
I always go from rough to fine...
So youre not doing anymore tutorials?
More videos to come, mate. All Kinds of vids including tutorials.
I'm suck at sketching but how in the hell I can stil perfect a fast draw without using the basics maybe I'm just used to it🤷♂
Kim Jung Gi is an Arch-Mage.
What brush do u use on photoshop ? Can i get them please (:
what brush settings do you use? / line art settings?
Me who literally only has a rough sketch step, a lineart step, and a coloring step and still creates a drawing of a frikin chibi in 15 hours: 😭😭😭
You can use a 3D model too! Just don’t trace over it or it ends up looking lifeless.
i had to draw one of your characters @0:55 togigure out 3\4 view.... im sorry i dont know his name.. but thanks or all the tips and info..
What brush do you use for inking?
Please tell
I normally jump right into lineart, sometimes I sketch then lineart. Then I color and add shading and lighting. What step can I cut out ? lol
I guess I'll skip all the steps apart from rough sketch😭😭
