Shortly: if you do not have WiFi Internet and you are forced to connect internet via modem and ARJ45 cable, then you can connect your repeater to the one of few connections of the the modem via ARJ45 cable and use the AP-Mode of the repeater. Why: 1. You get WiFi-LAN this way and you pay your provider only for cheaper modem instead paying for router with WiFi-LAN: 5,- dollar monthly for modem plus once 20,- dollar for AP-repeater is less then 10,- dollar monthly for WiFi-router. 2. You do not loose the internet speed using WiFi-router and WiFi-repeaters in long distances and through big walls as you connect to the internet using th ARJ-45 cable and only in the last room/area you take Waves form the AP mode of the repeater.
Hello, great information. Question, does an AP share the same SSID as my router? I need to get more wifi strength to my security cameras and if I connect an AP closer to them, will that bring the signal closer or do I have to reassign a new SSID for the AP and then reconnect my cameras to that? Thank you for the support.
Nice video which covers the basics. Can you do a more indepth video (or recommend one) where the wireless access point features like point to point and point to multipoint are clearly explained?
Thanks my range extender is not working well will try to switch using access point. my router is far, but I have ethernet auto switcher in other room. Can I connect from switcher instead of direct router? Thanks
Tp link sell wifi devices which can work in an Access point mode or in a router mode... Whats the difference ? An ap is a wireless lan Switch , does that mean they will get a lan IP address , the same network as the desktop wired pc ? I don't get that much the difference between those two ?
So what is the difference between a WAP and a wireless router?both are essentially needs to be plugged in to the modem via cable to extend the range of a wifi..
sir, i have got a small prob. here i have configured the layer 2 sw. but anytime i tried to ping to another pc on different network the sw . cannot communicate with th router i have done the ip default gateway conf. on the sw. but it still the same problem
if i use WAP as an extender, will it be different wifi SSID and password from my router+wifi? Can i make it the same so i don't have to choose which wifi i want my phone to connect to but at the same time will switch automatically to the strongest signal?
To be able to automatically roam between access points you need some type of wireless controller to manage the SSID and associated APs. There are now small office / home office wireless setups that do provide this type of service, but when using a regular extender or just adding a second regular AP to your network you are running a completely separate SSID to access the same network.
As long as that Ethernet cable is connected to your router or to a switch that's connected to your router, yes. If it's connected to your modem, it needs to connect to the WAN/Internet port of your router.
Confused. My wireless router is a standalone device that is connected to modem via ethernet cable and sends wireless to my devices. Sounds like an AP. But it's firmware gives choice of a "station" or "AP" mode. It's "Station" by default and works fine. In fact switching to "AP" mode does not connect me to the internet and says something like "looking for users". So...it's not an "AP" out of the box??? Can't get it to work in AP mode anyway.
"AP" mode disables the router part of the device. You'd use AP mode if you have a separate router that you're connecting it to, as a router is always necessary for internet access. In "station" mode it is both an AP and router.
Does this mean that if my Wi-Fi Router's network name/SSID is "Internet2.4", all Wireless Access Point will show only one network name "Internet2.4" regardless of which WAP a device is connected? If so, does a device automatically connects to the network regardless of which WAP he/she is nearest to. ...Or a person needs to manually connect to a specific WAP depending on which room the person is and which WAP is nearest to him? I hope someone could help me clarify what's on my mind. Thanks!
can i connect an old router somewhere in my house and use it as a wifi repeater? I want to avoid the strengthening of my wfi because i don't know if it is dangerous for my health the strong wifi connection. I will appreciate your answer.
Wi-Fi is not dangerous. what you want to do is use it as an access point, not as a repeater. This requires a wired Ethernet connection to your existing network. When used as a repeater, it has to use half its Wi-Fi bandwidth to communicate with the router, which means that any devices connected to it lose half their speed.
I need a bit of an explanation pertaining an AP, some of the APs broadcast a different network e.g 192.168.1.* whilst it was connected to a 10.2.3.* network, Please explain that part for me.
Those are also routers. Think of an AP as a wireless switch, it only understands MAC addresses and doesn't deal with IP addresses. It will always broadcast on the same subnet it's connected to.
I cant find an answer to this anywhere. I have a wired LAN in the house. And another wired LAN in a remote building. I want to wirelessly connect the 2 wired LANS. I guess I need a "Wired Access Point" or something? I only need one wired connection which can of course go to my switch in the remote building. This configuration seems to not exist? I realize the attached wired LAN will run only at wireless speeds, but that's OK. The devices out there are all wired, not wireless.
Hopefully someone on here can help me! I have a problem that seems like it should be easy to solve, but the solution eludes me. I'm a home user. I have Comcast internet, setup with a wireless router. But one end of my house doesn't get a good signal so I bought a combo device to fix it. Now here's the part that seems like it should be easy....I have a hardline running to the other end of the house, so I can plug it into the new device and broadcast a signal from there. What i WANT is for it to be the SAME network as my original, not a second wireless network showing up. HOW DO I DO IT??
for the secondary router, you have to set it to amplify the existing signal in the operating mode settings. It varies for every router but look through the options it gives you, many times it explains what each does.
@@rikimbili And running the gateway to a router without bridging it is bad, unless you do manage to get the router to repeat the same WiFi broadcast like you said
This explanation didnt help at all. Access point or combination access point? So whats with my router that has an option to turn on and off thr access point? Yet even when off, i can still connect wirelessly to the internet. Is this another access point? Your explanation doesnt make any sense.
Before watching this, did you think "router" meant "the thing that gives you Wi-Fi"? If so, then you needed to know it. Routers have nothing to do with Wi-Fi, they just route data traffic between different networks. Any time you're connecting to Wi-Fi, you're connecting to an AP, which may or may not be built into a router.
There is no mistake here. A modem provides signaling for connectivity across a wire but the function of a router is what routes all of your traffic out to the internet.

It’s 2020 and WAP now has a new meaning
💀💀💀💀
i see someone saw the comment on the music vid 💀
ATM on the Beat I actually didn’t😂 I’d jus seen a kid the other day saying “WAP” and wondered why they were talking about AP’s😂
Isaac Akhigbe my guy over here is a nerd 🤑☠️🤣
Which is pretty sad.
This is one of the best videos I've seen yet, you made it simple for the viewer to understand. Keep up the good work
I've watched a lot of your videos and all of them are concise and to the point. thanks for posting these videos man
keep up the good work

CCNA babyyyyy
this was a great quick nugget
"hey what's that"
"that's a WAP, that's a WAP"
I adore the way you present your knowledge. Grazi!
Great job at explaining this somewhat confusing subject!
Nice video except for the music you threw in at 4:32. People with hearing loss will have trouble distinguishing your voice from that music (I did).

Thank you for the video. It is very helpful. Could you provide a video on a PoweConnect 6224 Dell switch that will serve both routing and dhcp.
Please, could you make a series of videos about OSI model. We need it soooo much))
Thank you

thanks for making all these clear
Upload more, man. Good work.
this was extremely helpful. Thanks!
If im in the range/middle of the ap and router wifi witch one will it connect to ? Will it just be getting wifi from both sources ?

Wifi mesh: yes

when this router part of device is disabled , the router couldn't interacted with the third layer of ISO( network layer)

This is kind of cool. Seems pretty basic. I bridged two routers but one doesn't have a wap. I think at least.

What if my Condo's wifi SUCKS!!!??? Can I use a device to boost it without plugging into it?
me: what's that?
it's WAP
Thank you!
thanks mate
I bet someone searched up what is a WAP from the cardi b music video
You sound just like william osmann, and he’s tech savy too

How does a router provide access to the internet ? That's the job of a modem
I think nowadays modem and router are integrated together since most household user doesn't need much wired LAN anymore.
