- Breaking my self-imposed upload rules to bring you this fun side by side comparison of the evolution of the Vampires Will Never Hurt You video.
A wonderful tribute to Robert Wiene's The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920).
On the left is the original version that was played at the record release show and was publicly available on the website in 2002 as a RealVideo file download/stream. 🤯
On the right is the version released with the reissue of I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in 2005.
Many of the takes, edits, and special effects are completely different! The reissue version even introduces text.
Never knew there were 2 versions
2002 is my favorite forever, probably bc it's the first one I watched, clearly. I knew I had seen Frank blowing smoke and G's "I promise" face before, but couldn't recall (find) this previous version and just thought it was pure teenage delusion haha, it was just so weird to think they cut those scenes out. This comparison is much appreciated, thanks
as a diehard mcr fan and lost media archivist, this is like coke for me… thank you so much! i honestly really like parts from both versions. i think the 2005 version has too many jumpcuts, but the 2002 version could use some different, more interesting clips. if i had the spare time i’d probably edit my own version haha
Do it now or Gerard *_will_* let the Vampires hurt you.
Even though the 2005 version is the one I grew up with and the one I'm the most familiar with (I became a fan of the band in 2005), I will admit that I think the 2002 version is colored better. It pops out a bit more than the 2005 version. That being said, the 2005 version has slightly better resolution to my eyes. Also, the 2002 version seems to be a bit overexposed with regard to lighting, while the 2005 version seems to be a bit underexposed. Logic tells me that the truth must lie somewhere in the middle. Ultimately, both have their upsides and their downsides. Either way, still a great video of a great song. 🙂
It's great to see you uploading again, Spacey! Thanks for this really interesting and enlightening experience!
2002 version is from a >10MB .rm file at 352x240 resolution that I downloaded from the website as soon as it was posted. It's not the greatest source, but it's the ONLY source AFAIK. 🤣
Haven't been uploading because I accidentally lost my script to generate the videos from my audio files. I have yet to recreate it, or make a new one with completely different "branding". I've been a bit lazy about it, but it'll happen one of these days.
@@spaceyraygun Hahahaha I'm not complaining though, don't get me wrong! 😂 It's still fantastic despite whatever faults I might think it has! I haven't seen the 2002 version of the video in literal years! I forgot just how much better the colors were on it! So thank you for that! 😃
Haha I completely understand. That's life, yeah? Just go at your own pace and do what you can when you feel like it. You have a life outside of this that needs to be tended to. We all do. Whenever you decide to upload something else, I and everybody else here will be happy to see it regardless. 🙂👍
@@spaceyraygun Nada Recording’s UA-cam channel had the original up but it’s now been removed.
I didn’t know that! Probably would’ve been an upgrade! Lol
I really wish they could re-master these videos, I would be down for editing both versions (seems that it's a different edit and nothing else), It is camcorder footage so best is 480i 60fps
finally an adhd friendly version
YT recommended got me here and I didn't even know there was a video! Though, to be fair, this song is somewhere in the middle of my ranking of MCR songs, so I just haven't paid that much attention to it. But yeah, I'm gonna agree with the other commenters, I think the 2002 version is better. 2005 is just too smooth and has too many effects and cuts, which I don't think fits the song at all.
Hi, it is very difficult to find the original version in acceptable quality. Plz upload it.
Wow I didn't know there were two versions of this video! I mostly prefer the 2005 edit, it's much more interesting. The only thing I dislike is the text
I quite enjoy the 2002 version better than the 2005 one. for 2002 it feels more like a home made horror type of music video while the 2005 one feels like a studio made horror music video.
i always thought there were two versions!!! thanks for uploading both :)
Do you can upload 2002 version? I can’t find this on youtube
I think i Remember they Made a alternative version on left music video. Where it appears flashing images with a mouth and a changing colors for some reason
ua-cam.com/video/PCJmjYfOOWs/v-deo.htmlsi=FHdh70n9dlGkpHt7
There it is
Do you know where I could find the full 2002 version? This video is the only place I’ve seen it
This is the most amazing UA-cam I've ever seen how did you dig this stuff up!!
i didn't dig it up, i always had it! lol
the recordings (shows and interviews) are mine. the music videos, like this one, i downloaded/ripped and archived from various internet sources. all between the years of 2002-2004.
many of the old audio recordings you find around the internet from that era were mine and circulated all over throughout the years. 2022 was when i returned and put it all out there, as complete as i could, and at much higher quality.
glad you like the channel!
I like both of these. They are pretty different and kind of feel like different interpretations of the same editing prompt(which I'm guessing probably is the case). I'm more focused on a different question: why are neither of these on the official channel?
the older version is better because of the older lens and filter and lighting
Where did you find this?
Details are in the description
@@spaceyraygun Do you have the link to the original file?
2002 is much much better
