Here is one person's short story. Steve Gillman lived in Colorado. He took a break from exploring the mountains to write a little ebook. It was about ultralight backpacking. Since he know all about the subject he was quickly able to write it in jut a few days. This is very possible when you write about a subject you know and love.
Steve then published it on Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing. You will often here it refer to as KDP for short. While he was at it he also uploaded a few other ebooks he had written. It is completely free to upload books to KDP.
Soon he was making as much as $350 per month. This was without any advertising or promotion. About 1/3 of it came from the backpacking book.
Sales on that book did eventually slow down. But in total he made almost $2,000 from a little Kindle ebook that cost him absolutely nothing to create and upload.
