I found it difficult riding off-road with a perceived or real skill differential between myself and the other riders. Mentally it beat me up to feel like I was constantly struggling or slowing people down. It's cliche AF but I'll say it anyway, no one ever got anywhere staying in their comfort zone. You guys are doing great and part of the enjoyment I am getting from this particular series is watching you guys struggle against adversity, develop as a result and still maintain good cheer for the camera!

We can always fall into the trap of comparison . We just need to be us.

Mission Santa Maria de los Angeles was the 17th mission constructed in Lower (Baja) California and the last mission constructed by the Jesuits before their expulsion in 1768. This mission was originally located in Calamajue wash just outside of Coco's corner but due to over mineralized water from the springs there the mission was relocated in 1767 and was in use for only eight years in this location.
Wheat and cotton were planted and this mission had about 300 neophytes around the time of expulsion. Almost four months went by before the Franciscans took over mission functions. Lacking a suitable church, the Franciscans built one from adobe and roofed it with tules (reeds). Next to it, a two-room adobe dwelling was constructions as well as a barn that served as a storage room.
Junipero Serra himself has a cargo trail constructed from Gonzaga Bay to Mission San Fernando passing just above Mission Santa Maria. Much of what you are riding on is considered by some to be parts of the El Camino Real (The King's Road). There is a lot of history on that trail and in that spot that many are unaware of. Pretty amazing to still be able to see remnants of it. Thank you for sharing this video!

Wow That's the most information we have been given about the site. The kings road, that is amazing. Thanks for such a complete and descriptive comment .
We hope you can help us get a better understanding of this place we are falling more in love with.

@@theadventurecooperative Much of this knowledge (and some word for word text) is from the book 'Baja California - Land of Missions' by Davide Kier. If you ride Baja or like me, have been for decades now there is quite a bit of interesting history in this book. Roughly 3 - 5 pages per mission are dedicated to telling the story of each one and how they came about and why. Because of this book I have discovered that I have been within 100 yards of many of them without even knowing it. Part of the reason I stumbled across this video is because we were planning a ride in mid January 2023 to go see this place but the trip fell apart last minute due to a couple of us getting the flu of some sort and we are currently planning our return. Was hoping to see it in this video but it looks like you all turned around. We heard this trail was somewhat nasty and it's nice to see it ahead of time. Thank you!

@@RottweilerPerformance We linked a friends video in the description that will show you all you need to know. We have more video gifted us of the ride but Andy Wilson 89 does a better job. We are checking out you're content now.

@@theadventurecooperative Checked out that video and it was great. Amazon Prime even has a video that you can rent for .99 cents about a group going to visit that mission in trucks called 'The Last Mission'. We feel it was probably better suited to just being thrown up on UA-cam, but it was informative nonetheless and showed many challenging parts of the trail well.

I was there solo on Jan 18th with my 4Runner, camped out down in the Oasis. I walked the rest of the way to the mission from the mud spot since it's fairly grown in and didn't want to risk getting stuck even though I have a winch. It's a long ways back up in there. It's fairly consistent terrain from your turn around point with exception to the hill that drops into the Oasis, that one would be a bit of a challenge. Took me 3 hours one way in the 4runner. Pretty nice scenery after the summit heading east.

Its a very cool spot. Scott was tired and his bike was acting up. I think we made the right choice. Your 4Runner must be amazing.

What amazing scenery , you folks are putting out some great content this trip !
I was curious what tire pressures you are running . You make it look effortless rolling over those loose sections of bigger rocks .

As I noted on the last video that ride is nasty especially the last part where you drop down into the canyon and the oasis. My buddy and I rode that 25-30 years ago on XR250s. the last time I know I was on my new 1998 KTM 400LC4 SC, that kicked on the left side. Unfortunatly I had changed the gearing and it was a brute on that single track. Gearing was not suitable for that kind of single track. I dont remember it being so sandy and mostly 2 track.Your lady was doing a great job on those rocky up hill sections . That DZR was still acting up ,that could have been some of the problems she had. Anyway you guys gave it a good try. Love the drone shots wish we had them in those days. Keep the videos coming their always interesting.

Jeff loving your feedback. Steph was rocking it on the Beta. So proud of her. Funny thing about UA-cam time lines is the rides have been done for weeks now. I enjoyed your warning knowing we had already made the trip and you were right on point.

Good call on the end point and turn. Concerned your dr does not bang on when starting. Fatigue = mistakes = injury. Not a fail at all! You didnt become a statistic. Been there crashed there. Too many at home not doing. Total reality.

Praise comments followed by a bunch of emojis tend to lose their impact, they don't really tell you a whole lot, it almost feels like empty kudos; not helpful if you are trying to grow as a creator. Since the Patreon post says you're open to feedback, here goes: Try adding in some history of the area, perhaps footage of a local speaking about the area. Perhaps English could be an issue. An interview with a Guy would be phenomenal to listen to. Check out Destination Adventure with Dustin Porter; he has really nailed it well. As Claudio has always told me to always have a beginning, middle and end with some form of resolution. When you look at content that holds you glued to the screen, and not scrubbing through, what is it? Try to replicate that with your own originality.
