The parents have the audacity to say, "What about the girls, is not fair to them." What a joke..... Good or bad umpiring. Doesn't matter. Some parents..... they ruin shit and take no accountability. Smh
I have been an umpire for a long time. My observations: 1. The first time the umpire confronted the umpire the coach is in the dugout and does not say ANYTHING to the umpire. She simply kicks a trash can. The umpire was looking for a reason to confront the coach. The coach was not the aggressor, the umpire was, and for no reason. While it may be she was mad at him. But it could also be she was mad at a player or something else. Do NOT go looking for issues to pick on coaches about. Let the coach be the aggressor and show everyone they deserved to be kicked out. Do NOT yell at a coach loudly from across the field. You are upset at them and accusing them of being unprofessional, yet you are being unprofessional yelling across the field. Simply walk over sad say what you need to say in a professional manner. You do not need to show a coach up like that, it is uncalled for and unprofessional. The umpire lost his cool. Do not lose your cool in an ejection. When you let the coach be the aggressor, they throw themselves out. You are just the formal notification they are gone. You are the one that HAS to maintain their cool at all times no matter what. If you blow up and show your butt, you are no better than they are. This umpire created a situation out of nothing. Coaches are going to comment on calls, it is the nature of the beast. If you can not handle the comments (as long as they are not personal attacks) then you need to find another line of work. 2. The 2nd incident..... You NEVER EVER run at a coach like that. Let me repeat NEVER run at a coach. I do not care of they dropped a MF on you in their comments.... you do NOT rush a coach like that. I still did not hear the coach say anything other than maybe the obstruction comment. That is NOT a personal attack. If the coach said you are terrible or something along those lines... then yeah... deal with it. This umpire held a grudge from the first incident, and it is evident. He was looking for a reason to get rid of the coach and it is obvious. The comment was not even close to being worthy of an ejection. And for the record, it was a good call on the obstruction. Only one fielder can be afforded protection when playing a batted ball. Both the 3B and SS were closer and had a better play on the ball. Therefore the SS can not be afforded protection. 3. The PLATE umpire suspends or ends the game, not the base umpire. And that is the last resort and should be avoided at ALL costs. This umpire completely lost control. He is paid to stay in control. He did not consult with his partner or anything, just ends the game and walks off and his partner lets him. Sorry, the coach was thrown out without just cause and the umpire threw a tantrum. This umpire would be sitting down for at least a couple of weeks if he worked for me and would most likely go through some training on handling situations. His actions in this game are totally unacceptable.
Well, it's a good thing that he doesn't work for you bases upon the cases as numbered by you above. 1. If a coach at this level kicks a trash can, an umpire is well within their right to warn them and ask them to calm down. It does not matter with whom the coach was upset. Allowing someone to act out is poor game management. 2. The umpired did not "rush" the coach. We cannot see how far away the coach was off camera nor how far away the umpire stopped from the coach. The umpire seems to merely be hustling so as to not take any unnecessary time away from the game. I see nothing wrong with his jogging over (which is not a "rushing" of the coach). 3. The base umpire can forfeit a game under certain conditions, especially given that he is the crew chief. Yes, he should have consulted with the plate umpire. Furthermore, we are unaware from this video what all took place prior to. And if you were a true, solid umpire, you would NEVER EVER... let me repeat: NEVER state that a coach was thrown out (or in this case, confined to the dugout) without just cause unless you were fully (110%) aware of the situation. I hope that you are not an assigner, especially one on a power trip. Unfortunately, in my twenty-one years of calling, I have run across people such as yourself that speak without fully understanding the situation and knowing how to properly handle them. God Bless!
@@creativewritingtutor5788 I got to side with "ILOVEUMPS" on this one. It's possible more happened earlier or in other games, but we only have this video to go by and based on what is in this video, the umpire was looking for problems and found them. You typically fins what you are looking for. Ending the game is only necessary if there is a safety issue as you can eject any offending party, if there were any offending parties at all beyond the umpire. He did get the obstruction call correct. Just poor poor game management.
umpire made the right call - it was clearly an obstruction by the short stop ... no idea what the coach was saying or doing because you couldn't see or hear it in the video ... though, it would need to be extreme for the umpire to walk off - surely the coach gets ejected before that happens
I played on a championship little league team for two years and we were good my coach was known to be strict toward the parents .his coaching staff himself and all our family and friends were held to a certain level of class and sportsmanship .at the start of the season there was letters sent home and a player parent meeting individually were he would explain to us and parents about how he expected only positive words and encouraging words ,or don't bother coming to the games he made alot of parents leave the field when they got out of control or out of line . His sounds a bit controlling butt I tell you what ,it tonight all of us how to play the game respect your other teams have fun and win ,and we were champions both my years .it teaches you to be competitive yet classy witch now days is rare .parents act stupid well kids follow
Good sportsmanship is not rare, it’s as common as ever, probably even more so since athletes are deterred and incentivized by the fact everything is being filmed. It’s just that every act of bad sportsmanship these days is caught on film and like everything bad in the world we focus on it with a magnifying glass and make it seem more prevalent than it really is. Kids and parents like these are the exception, for every one of them there are 1000 good ones doing things right, which makes bad sportsmanship the rarity.
I did a fill in game as an umpire for under 10s I'm a player not an umpire i told both coaches before the game im not a professional just a volunteer I'll call it as i see it and being juniors i told them I'll make the strike zone a bit bigger make it easier on the kids coach a was fine when his team was pitching and i called alot of stuff strikes coach b was fine with it kept cheering on his team, when they changed over coach a went and started having a sook Went over and told him settle down you were fine half an innings ago now it's getting called on you dont start sooking Few more pitches he's on 3rd base screaming and swearing at me told him calm down its a kids game they dont need to hear or see this behaviour and then think it's okay to do 2 more pitches he kept going took him off the field threw him out He didnt wanna go and nearly ended up in a fight
One, if a coach is in the dugout kicking things, I applaud the umpire for saying something. Particularly in youth sports. Two, by definition, there WAS obstruction, and he signaled it right away by putting his arm up. Three, I applaud him again for running over to the dugout instead of engaging in an argument across the field in front of youth players. Four, we don't know what was said for him to call the game. The coach obviously has a temper if they're in the dugout kicking things.
@@jonnydanger7181 he's 💯 right. Every player, coach, and fan should umpire at least one game, and then maybe you'll have respect for the men and women who do this thankless job!!! Yer outta here. J.d.. 🤣
@@jasonmichaels5796 I have done both coaching and umpiring and would never let a situation get out of hand like that to begin with. Both sides are shameful.
Then you should understand especially in the kids game there is no room for any parent or coach one getting to the point where they're kicking garbage cans and two you don't know what that coach said or did and that umpire was very professional with the way he conducted himself. When you umpire a couple games where the games mean something then come back and talk to me because just doing recreational softball or girls little league fast pitch doesn't warrant being an umpire.
@@jonnydanger7181 and also if you think this coach is actions were the actions of a good coach then you shouldn't be coaching kids either Stick the checkers
During my son's 14U comp season, we were the beneficiary of a close play at home (which after watching it back in slow motion, the ump called correctly). After making the call and hearing the groans and beratement from the parents of our opposition, the ump literally turned to bleachers and said in an assertive yet strangely calm tone, "I am standing 3 feet away with a better view of the play than any one else on this field. The runner is safe. If you have a problem, post it online and complain about it there. The people in the comments will tell you I'm right." I couldn't help but laugh and wonder how long he had been waiting and prepping for that moment.
The obstruction call was correct. His decision to end the game, though, was not only procedurally wrong (not his call to make, as the field umpire... plate umpire is the chief, in these situations and at this level), but also extremely immature. If you're "not taking that", then eject the offender and move on with the game.
Aaron Tyler I’ll agree with you on the forfeiture. I have no idea what was going on in the bench area, but I never heard any comment being directed to either umpire. Sometimes, coaches and players get upset with the way they are playing, not because of an umpire’s call. Kicking a garbage can with no previous arguing a call is something I probably not even see (my focus is mainly on the field). The general procedure is an ejection after a warning, and only if the manager or coach refuses to leave the field in a timely fashion (more like 10 minutes than 30 seconds), would a game be forfeited. And before any forfeit is declared, I would confer with the plate umpire. Of course I say this unaware of what had been happening before this moment of the game, and with no view of either dugout. The only time I wouldn’t wait for my partner in ending a game would be due to severe weather, such as lightning or thunder. In that case, the field needs to be cleared immediately, for player safety. But the goal for a good umpire is to try to get the game in. I wouldn’t want to punish a whole team for the actions of one person. The ONLY game I was working which ended in a forfeit was when, after I had ejected the coach, he (and his assistants) pulled his team off the field, refusing to play. I may have declared the forfeiture, but the coaches really ended the game, by refusing to play (unlike the case in this video). Unfortunately for this coach, the league commissioner was present, and he was not happy with this coach’s actions at all, and he was suspended from the following game. That decision came from the commissioner, not me or my partner. He saw everything that led up to the ejection and subsequent forfeiture.
I've seen fans ( mostly Karens) jump on the umps on the very first pitch and not let up until the end. You have give warnings early and often to said parents and toss them if they continue.
Regarding forfeits and who can call them, this is from the 2018 USA Softball Umpire Manual: "If working with a partner always consult the crew before declaring a forfeit. All umpires can declare a forfeit, but be sure to exhaust every option before arriving at the decision." In NFHS and USSSA, only the plate umpire can call a forfeit. (Unless they recently changed it.) In NCAA, umpires must concur. (Unless they recently changed it.)
Good play call but bad forfeit call. I’ve only ended one game on forfeit when a team was intentionally hitting players. It wasn’t body shots it was head shots. The third time I made then switch pitchers. The very next pitch was thrown at the head and I gave the pitch a stern warning. The next throw was also at his head and so I ended the game on mackory of the game. I’ve done this once in 7 years and I hope I never have to do it again. Y’all have a good day
The only forfeit I ever gave was when a coach poked me in the chest while screaming. Contact with an official by an adult at a youth game is an automatic we're done
Hold the game up, force the unruly fans to leave. Let the head coach know to ask his fans to leave, that usually works. Always let the kids play if possible, it’s about them. ✌️
I umpired baseball, little league and high school. It is the home plate umpire’s job to control the game. Rather than forfeiting the game, the coach should have been tossed. The plate umpire did a poor job of controlling the game. Often coaches and fans get too worked up. There is hardly ever professional scouts at these games. I have umpired games where there were scouts, and I am proud of the job I did. I did my best, and the focus was where it is supposed to be, on the players.
It is really hard to pass full judgment here as we can't hear all of the audio or see what is happening in the bench. But, there are a couple of things to note to support the umpire. 1. First bunt the batter clearly pulled back well before the ball crossed the plate. Coach wants "Amber" to see if she went. Really? See if she pulled back, ask for a?? She gets a bit incoherent. Then you get the "Wow, really?" Yeah coach, really. Wasn't even a question. Watch the video. HA!!2. Not sure what happens after the second bunt. Strike called and apparently the coach kicks something. She was a bit defiant after. Showing signs of unsportsmanship. 3. Umpire runs across the field to warn the coach. You don't hear the audio but obviously she said something. Basically, she is doing it to herself and her team. I am thinking this coach may have a reputation that the umpires were aware of.4. Umpire makes the right call on the obstruction to the SS. SS was in the base runners path with no play. Umpire cannot award 3rd with the runner at 3rd not advancing. Runner is awarded 2nd safely on the obstruction. There was really nothing to argue over here. Obviously this coach must have been acting out in the dugout. Likely verbally and physically but we can't hear or see what happens.I would not have called the game unless it was multiple people acting out. I would have ejected the coach though and given a bench warning to the remainder of the coaching staff.
+CV1989Colt - I disagree with your obstruction interpretation. The shortstop was coming in on a ball that was initially rolling in her direction. It can be strongly argued that she was doing so to make a play - which would erase any "obstruction" call. Still, since the runner cannot advance anyway due to 3rd base being occupied, if obstruction WAS called, it would be moot. I think the fact that the ball was actually fielded by the pitcher doesn't erase the shortstop's right to be where she was. The runner should have made an effort to avoid contact. I agree with you on all other points.
+Jumper Guy SS had no chance to field that ball. It was a little dinker that immediately died. The runner has a right to the base path. Likewise the fielder has the right to field the ball cleanly. In this case, there is no ball to be fielded as it was hit too weakly for the SS to even charge. The pitcher fielding the ball was a result of the change in direction of the hit and the hit having no energy to even get past the mound. Pitcher fielding the ball is not a factor in why I would agree with obstruction. With the benefit of being able to watch this over and over again in replay mode, I could not overturn the obstruction call. I can respect your decision not to call obstruction. It is a judgment call.
What’s wrong with “Umpires going wild” players and coaches GO WILD all the time on umpires…good to see the umpires not taking all the crap that they go through
Not only that but they are assholes as well, most of the time. Case in point I had to remove a whole entire set of parents from the bleachers one day because they were cursing and demeaning the other team, I sent them packing to the parking lot to wait for their kids to finish the game with no support.
From the sounds of the video the fan fare from the ballpark became to overbearing because they didnt like him hollering at coach for poor sportsmanship so he called it instead muttling through a disaster in the making.
Growing up playing baseball for 14 years, i always had an idea to start a league where parent attendance was strictly not allowed. It would have been so much fun
No, not a good idea. Parents, despite being stupid at times, deserve to be allowed to watch their children who play sports. Believe me, I suffered some really bad instances, because of how Pop acted or reacted to my play. The stories I could tell. But it was worth it, for the time he was there when I excelled.
Plate ump was a wet noodle. He needed to take time after crazy blue ran from SS to 1B dugout to diffuse the nut job. I would have finished the game as solo ump if my partner had a melt down like that.
Yeah, as a former umpire(only up to about high school age kids) I too found that odd. Maybe the field umpire is older/more experienced, etc., and let the other guy call the plate, but I feel like he should at least have gone over and tried to understand, or diffuse the situation(or maybe he already knew what was going on and agreed with the other ump, or didn't want to look like he was overstepping his bounds and second guessing/controlling the other ump. But for the field ump to just call the game like that, and for the plate ump to walk off with him, that was just odd. I think the field ump either was having a bad day, and/or couldn't take it anymore(it can admittedly be hard to hear a large group of people talk the way coaches and oarents do to umpires, especially when you yourself feel like you may have made a questionable call, and already feel like an assholes about it.)
Even if you think the other umpire is an idiot, you can’t just completely make a mockery of him by continuing the game. Umpires back each other up at all times even if they disagree.
that ump was in a bad mood and decided to take it out on everyone else. he instigated everything, sought out trivial stuff to get angry at. he needs to learn to leave his problems at home.
I umpired for many levels for many years. I have zero respect for this clown umpire. He is without any doubt on a power trip. His eyes and ears need to be on the game, not the dugouts or the grandstands.
I think the field ump may have been dealing with jock itch. It’s frustrating sometimes to deal with coaches and parents, sure, but you don’t call the game like that. Quite frankly he seemed more interested in what was happening in the dugout than on the field. From the small sample anyway.
😂😂😂 Always gotta be a racial thing huh? You are the only one on here that made that assumption! That base umpire was a douche bag and was looking to go home early and get his $50 bucks!
I swear to god there's lots wrong with the parents and people that go to watch youth sports events of any kind.. man something ain't right in those people's lives
If you’re saying the umpire was wrong? You’re the type of parent yelling at umpires/officials from the bleachers that cause it to happen. Parents need to learn it’s not about them anymore. Let your kid play, cheer for your kid and their team and other than that stay quiet. Don’t yell at umpires or the other team. If you don’t like the umpire, I suggest you get certified and do it yourself since obviously you know better. “I was on my high school team I know the rules.” Oh Chad, sit down and zip it, no one cares.
Base runner should have been called out. The obstruction call should have only protected her going to 3rd. Once she turned around she was no longer protected by the obstruction call. Ump blew this one
Had there not been a runner in front of her that was still the legal occupant of third, you'd be correct. But since she can't be the legal occupant of that bag, she is still considered "between bags".
To Victor Marinaccio - How do YOU know what transpired? If the umpire(s) warned the bench for unsportsmanlike conduct, and it continued (we don't know) then calling the game may have been appropriate. Who GIVES a damn what you think people are there to see. The umpires are charged with managing the game so that the rules are adhered to, and if not to mete out the appropriate discipline. If the coach or bench was out of line, they should have controlled THEIR behavior.
No umpire can call the game and leave because of a coaches unsportsmanlike conduct if the coach is a problem just eject him/her from the game. this is a protestable
rules question for softball umps: was that the correct ruling on obstruction, to protect the runner back into 2B after she was obstructed by F6 on the way to 3B and then found 3B already occupied so she tried to return? I'm pretty sure in baseball I'd just let her be out at 2B. Sure, I'd protect her into 3B if she could actually go there, but in my view returning to 2B is a NEW action and she's no longer protected. It'd be different in a rundown of course, but she wasn't in a rundown.
She’s basically in a rundown. From a coaching standpoint I’m going to want your explanation I’ll disagree as she was hindered by the fielder which slowed her down, having to recollect herself. She could have “oh crap get back” and gotten back safely. Someone else mentioned a runner cannot he put out at either bag the obstruction took place in between which to me makes sense and is intuitive. But I’m not going to be a dick and cuss you out or anything
@@jackjon7763 I would explain that she wasn't in a rundown because the defense was not making a play on her. she reached the base to which I might have protected her on the obstruction (this is type 2/B obstruction, so there is no mandatory base award even in softball as far as I know), but found it occupied and decided to return on her own and still without any action from the defense. she either made a major baserunning mistake, or you were running a form of the "what the hell are you doing!?!?" play, and in either case I'm not going to bail her out. certainly in baseball, I'm absolutely letting the out at 2B stand. (but that last is indeed the crux of the question - I am strictly a baseball umpire; 90% of the rules are the same, but that last 10% can be a doozy)
Respect to thw parents for stepping up to umpire. These are little girls, the umps were totally out of line, throwing their weight around. I’ve been involved with youth baseball for years and while most umps are great, there are a few that really let the power go to their heads. The kids are there to play. No if a specific kid or coach says something wildly offensive, sure you toss that one person. You never call ab entire game. Thats crazy and unfair to everybody else who is behaving correctly.
Lt Dan umpires should ALWAYS have “rabbit ears”! We’re not deaf. Have to keep control of the game and promote sportsmanship. All calls were correct EXCEPT ending the game. He should ejected the coach. (From what was available in video.) He warned, restricted, then should have ejected.
James, after I watched the video a couple times more. The umpire was yelling at the coach for kicking a "garbage can" after the girl tried to bunt a pitch that was way to high for her. I agree that the umpires should keep control of the game but I think this umpire went too far with his decisions. I'm almost 60 and have played, managed, and umpired most of my life. I just don't like people who abuse their authority.
He gave them two, by my count at :29 & 1:24. Then they keep jawing. He correctly called their short stop for intentionally hitting the girl they keep yelling. That's that
@@Bolgernow you dont forfet the game you kick the coach out of the game. As an umpire you can not be that thin skinned. To me that umoire needs to be trainned on how to handle a coach. 1. You do not tell time and run across the field. 2. You dont forfit a ball game because you feelings get hurt. Obviously the coach was being an add. The first part the batter was not even close to offering on the first bunt attempt. Then jawing after the umpire clearly explains why the runner was safe. As 30 yrs of experience as a umpire in yout sports to high school you always try to keep a coach in the game. But at some point they have to go then by all means send them to the parking lot. Well he went off the rails. Dont ever yell at a coach from B or C, it looks really unprofessional. Then calling the game because he wasnt happy is brutal. In my UA, that would result in an immediate investigation to determine why the double forfeit was called, and because it wasn't warranted, he likely doesnt ump in this league anymore.
@@luisotero78 All i did was answer the question. Not trying to heighten my importance one iota. Sorry to have somehow rubbed you the wrong way by not talking about or to you. I'll get over it.
The umpire was an idiot. He should tuck his rabbit ears in and do his job. It is NOT his job to police the coach from kicking a can. If he has a problem, eject the offender(s) and move on. Earn your freaking money. I’ll bet he didn’t offer a refund, did he? Umpires like this are a joke and should never be allowed to be on a field. BTW, who made the umpire the coach police? Again, not his job. Unless the coach did something directly to him, or caused some sort of delay or distraction, which we didn’t see or hear, the he needs to stfu and do his job.
This umpire might have been a little unprofessional by doing this. But half the time the parents and coaches are wrong on the rules and what they are saying. What the parents and coaches don't know is how much we prepare before the game and how much training we go to and how many things we have to remember. Also, how nervous we are, and we go out there to umpire and the parents just heckle us sometimes like umpires are not going to miss calls.
Kelly Spencer It’s been several years, but I worked many games at every level but NCAA and pro ball. You are right that some parents and some coaches have a negative effect. But the vast majority of the time, I had no problems with either spectators or coaches. Most were grateful we were there, and said so. It’s hard to get a handle on exactly what happened here, because I can only see a tiny fragment (and even that was edited) of what may have led up to this moment. I can’t even see either dugout. Now a lot depends on the age level of the players. The younger the players, the more you want coaches to be a good role model. But I always understood that often, players are angry with themselves, not my partner and me, and they need to vent that frustration. As long as the player or coach is “kicking a garbage can, and not another player, or yelling at us, I really wouldn’t address it (except perhaps in Little League). And if such behavior started to get to the point of being audible beyond the dugout, that’s when it’s time to warn, which was usually enough. The next step is ejection. You don’t punish a whole team for the actions of one person, be that a player or a coach. Forfeiture is a last resort. If an ejected person refuses to leave the area, or if a crowd or team gets out of control, then you may have to consider it. Usually the coaches were pretty good at policing their fans/parents. Again, I don’t have the complete information. But I don’t think I would have forfeited this game. I heard nothing inappropriate. And it would seem the plate umpire, who is closer to the dugout, did either. All the coach can do is to speak with the league officials, and they would then take it up with the softball umpires association. (I always did baseball, but I assume the procedures are similar).
Interesting take considering that the only person who can be heard yelling is the base umpire making a big show out of chastising the coach. Had he done that to me, I would’ve shown him why umpiring clinics advise not to do what he did.
well dumbass if you knew anything about umpiring, his position on the field is dictated by runners on 2nd and probably 1st. he must be watching both. and to my recollection the bench/dugout is in the general direction of 1st base most often, therefore he will naturally have a good view of dugout activities as he surveys the field and situation.
Grumpy umpire met unruly coach, bad things happened. Coach was being ridiculous, the bunt appeal was ridiculous, the obstruction call was very obvious. Umpire didn't handle the situation very well based off just the video we can see, but clearly there were things happening off camera that we could not see. Could the umpire have handled it better? Yeah probably.
"Appeal it if she pulled the bat back" when are coaches gonna learn that whether a batter pulled their bat back when they square to bunt has no bearing on it being a swing, there has to be an offer, a batter can leave the bat over the plate all day long if they want, but if there was no attempt to strike the ball, it's nothing
I umpire for a living. If you've watched a baseball or softball game on TV in the last 15 years you've saw me more than you know. I set on rules committees all over the country. You are 100% wrong. This video was bad officiating by the FU. The obstruction was on the way to 3rd not on the way back which wouldn't change anything if it was. The guy was out of control but not like suggested in the title.
Proof once again that just because you have authority doesn't mean you can abuse it. That ump should be banned from the sport or any other sport in the state. He is a genuine jerk.
Calling the game cause you don’t like something a coach SAYS to you seems like an overreaction. Now I could be wrong, in order to judge fairly we would need video and audio of what the coach said and did. But I find it difficult to believe that calling the game for something a coach SAID was the right decision. Yeah eject the coach, but calling the game??? Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me. (If the coach threatened violence that would of course be a different story.)
This was such a simple and obvious call, its crazy anyone had an issue with it. I would've been pissed if the obstruction WASN'T called. This seems like poor game management though. Eject before you have to walk off the field, and definitely don't walk off without talking to your partner unless you're actively threatened. That being said, as an umpire I've definitely been in that head apace before. Youre doing a terrible youth ball game and you just hear constant complaining, sometimes you just cant take it anymore its not worth it
Don't worry, his association will get him for forfeiting the game without due cause. If I just forfeited a game like that, my association would either remove me from their schedule, or I would be stuck working JV games until I have another thin skinned break down, then remove me all together from the association.
The thing is he warned the coach twice, and even told her to get off the bench or he would call the game. That being said unless she threatened him with violence, he could have handled it better and let the girls play. Some guys have no tact.

Good or bad umpiring. Doesn't matter.
Some parents..... they ruin shit and take no accountability. Smh
I have been an umpire for a long time. My observations:

It tonight all of how to pla??
Lying for attention is a really unhealthy behavior.
Bad officiating, not bad sportsmanship.

Went over and told him settle down you were fine half an innings ago now it's getting called on you dont start sooking
Few more pitches he's on 3rd base screaming and swearing at me told him calm down its a kids game they dont need to hear or see this behaviour and then think it's okay to do
2 more pitches he kept going took him off the field threw him out
He didnt wanna go and nearly ended up in a fight
One, if a coach is in the dugout kicking things, I applaud the umpire for saying something. Particularly in youth sports. Two, by definition, there WAS obstruction, and he signaled it right away by putting his arm up. Three, I applaud him again for running over to the dugout instead of engaging in an argument across the field in front of youth players. Four, we don't know what was said for him to call the game. The coach obviously has a temper if they're in the dugout kicking things.

'You're suffering the girls." Comment of the year.
The obstruction call was correct. His decision to end the game, though, was not only procedurally wrong (not his call to make, as the field umpire... plate umpire is the chief, in these situations and at this level), but also extremely immature. If you're "not taking that", then eject the offender and move on with the game.
maybe the n word was used? Something set him off
Actually the obstruction call is wrong. The runner was obstructed going to 3rd and had no bearing on the play back to 2nd.
Glock2201 this is correct
Glock2201 The obstruction call was correct as it is a signal and then a delayed call.

Regarding forfeits and who can call them, this is from the 2018 USA Softball Umpire Manual:
"If working with a partner always consult the crew before declaring a forfeit. All umpires can declare a forfeit, but be sure to exhaust every option before arriving at the decision."
In NFHS and USSSA, only the plate umpire can call a forfeit. (Unless they recently changed it.)
In NCAA, umpires must concur.
@@frogfinance4605 that’s definitely a reasonable call.
Talk about rabbit ears on that ump.
Hold the game up, force the unruly fans to leave. Let the head coach know to ask his fans to leave, that usually works. Always let the kids play if possible, it’s about them. ✌️
ump making it all about himself
I umpired baseball, little league and high school. It is the home plate umpire’s job to control the game. Rather than forfeiting the game, the coach should have been tossed.
The plate umpire did a poor job of controlling the game. Often coaches and fans get too worked up. There is hardly ever professional scouts at these games.
I have umpired games where there were scouts, and I am proud of the job I did. I did my best, and the focus was where it is supposed to be, on the players.
“Ump makes right call”
Fixed it for you
It is really hard to pass full judgment here as we can't hear all of the audio or see what is happening in the bench.
+CV1989Colt I agree 100%
+CV1989Colt
Thats what I was thinking, why didn't he just eject the coach because the coach seemed to be the only one he was talking to.
+CV1989Colt The obstruction had no merit on her being out at second tho.

I really hate parents at ball games. They are so ignorant.
Not only that but they are assholes as well, most of the time. Umpires should NEVER make the game about them.
I've been umpiring for 40 yrs now.
Is the chip pre-sewn into the shoulder of the blue shirt or did he supply his own?

Base runner should have been called out. The obstruction call should have only protected her going to 3rd. Once she turned around she was no longer protected by the obstruction call. Ump blew this one
Rules of softball dictate that an obstructed runner cannot be called out between the 2 bases in which she was obstructed. Call was correct.
I just thought she reached the base she would have had there been no obstruction (3rd)....
Once she turned around the obstruction protection is over.
Had there not been a runner in front of her that was still the legal occupant of third, you'd be correct. But since she can't be the legal occupant of that bag, she is still considered "between bags".

rules question for softball umps: was that the correct ruling on obstruction, to protect the runner back into 2B after she was obstructed by F6 on the way to 3B and then found 3B already occupied so she tried to return?
(but that last is indeed the crux of the question - I am strictly a baseball umpire; 90% of the rules are the same, but that last 10% can be a doozy)
shes protected between the 2 bases

BTW, who made the umpire the coach police? Again, not his job. Unless the coach did something directly to him, or caused some sort of delay or distraction, which we didn’t see or hear, the he needs to stfu and do his job.
Let em play 😏?
It’s too serious to “play”
Parents need to stay home
I heard the field umpire say "play" The field umpire never puts the ball into play that's the plate umpires job
This umpire might have been a little unprofessional by doing this. But half the time the parents and coaches are wrong on the rules and what they are saying. What the parents and coaches don't know is how much we prepare before the game and how much training we go to and how many things we have to remember. Also, how nervous we are, and we go out there to umpire and the parents just heckle us sometimes like umpires are not going to miss calls.
parents and coaches ruin youth sports
Coach should’ve gone full Lou Pinella on this rabbit-ears joke of an umpire.
No....at the youth level like this, too many managers already think they're Lou Piniella.
Interesting take considering that the only person who can be heard yelling is the base umpire making a big show out of chastising the coach.
Had he done that to me, I would’ve shown him why umpiring clinics advise not to do what he did.
I wonder why you can't find good umpires just because parents like these
They left because of that slide at 1:56
Why is he looking at the bench
well dumbass if you knew anything about umpiring, his position on the field is dictated by runners on 2nd and probably 1st. he must be watching both. and to my recollection the bench/dugout is in the general direction of 1st base most often, therefore he will naturally have a good view of dugout activities as he surveys the field and situation.
That umpire shouldn’t allow the appeal from that viewpoint anyways. He can’t see the swing better from 2nd base than the umpire at home plate.
Yeah probably.
dude softball field is so much smaller compared to a baseball field
They are girls.
The Joe West of Youth Baseball.
The guy was out of control but not like suggested in the title.
why is the pitcher like 8'2
Proof once again that just because you have authority doesn't mean you can abuse it. That ump should be banned from the sport or any other sport in the state. He is a genuine jerk.
Eject the coach and continue the game. Absolutely no reason to walk off the field and discontinue the game.
That umpire is softer than charmin
there must of been a football game on
Chasing scholarship dollars they will never get.
Base umpire calls the game ? 😂 safe at second ? 💀
You didn't see the shortstop obstruct the runner at the beginning of the play? Go back and look. See the umpire's hand go up.
Youre doing a terrible youth ball game and you just hear constant complaining, sometimes you just cant take it anymore its not worth it
yeah...infield ump does not have the power to call game. Plate ump is the boss. Some people should never be given any power...he's clearly one.
Did I get rick Rolled?
Don't worry, his association will get him for forfeiting the game without due cause. If I just forfeited a game like that, my association would either remove me from their schedule, or I would be stuck working JV games until I have another thin skinned break down, then remove me all together from the association.
The thing is he warned the coach twice, and even told her to get off the bench or he would call the game. That being said unless she threatened him with violence, he could have handled it better and let the girls play. Some guys have no tact.
The sexist pig actually yelled at a female coach and told her to settle down. Twice.
There’s no way in hell he would’ve come at a male coach that way.
@@cc99556 I'm guessing you rode on the little bus, didn't ya ? Umpires don't care if you're a he, she or whatever they're calling these retarded genders today. If you're so triggered by a male umpire, why don't you train to become one, hopefully you'll be better than the snowflake base umpire.
I'm a 20 year umpire, guys like these are why we have a bad reputation. If you're so angry that you walk off a field over this, you need to go do 5 year olds games.
@@jasonmichaels5796 You don't forfeit a game over that. You toss the coach. The only way you can justify a forfeit is if that is the ONLY coach in the dugout.
@@eauhomme WRONG!!!! It doesn't matter how many coaches are on the bench if the head coach does not leave the bench area or the field depending on what the umpire told her to do he/she has it in there power to forfeit the game. And if you read my whole point it was if he had some tact he could have let the girls finish the game but you don't know exactly what was said by the coach and if she's not going to leave the field then he has it in his power to call the game. A good umpire would have worked for one to keep that coach in the game and for two to not let it escalate the way it did. So before you comment on anything know what you're talking about I've been an umpire for over 35 years on every level every kind of ball and I've seen this happen many a times. Go back to being an armchair quarterback
umpires are there to watch the game not the dug out. nothing is clearly heard in the audio until after the umpire calls time. i think the umpire had plans that evening
What the fuck happened here???? By watching this nobody that wasn't there has a clue what happened. The coach was doing something that pissed off the ump....what...who knows. If you can't see what's happening in your video at least write what happened in the description. Geez.
