    This is WONDERFUL! I am so intimidated by knitting and crocheting and after years of trying to learn and the yarn and looms sitting in the closet of my sewing studio, I finally see something that I can comprehend. I'm a hands-on learner and you've made a video in a way that clicks with me. Thanks so much!

    How nice it is to see somebody explain working loom stitches and projects without even saying a word! And, your method is so much easier to understand than the more "Wordy" versions I have tried to use but have failed because of skipped stitches and lacking instructions. I'm just thankful that after looking for hours, I've finally found somebody I can follow and get a nice project done as the end result. Whew! Thank you for your excellent manner of teaching Loom Knitting.

    My hooded scarf, I did it! Had used garter stitch instead of the e-wraps, and also had loomed it as a single piece, not two halves. For those who are interested - it starts with 10 stitches, which increase to 13 at about 35cm (1 per 4 rows), after which we cast on the remaining pegs and make the entire 'body' of the hood, then - binding off, leaving the 13 pegs and mirroring the first increase (decreasing to 10 once per 4 rows). Then fold it in half wrong sides out and make a single easy seam on the upper part. The scarf part and the 'depth' of the hood can be varied, 10st wide grater 'flaps' are ok for an 11yr old girl, the height is ok, the original width is a bit too much for her, but she likes it that way.
    Thanks for the great scheme, it had inspired me to take a risk and work my first 'complex' project (with an increase, decrease and ..dare I say? seaming, yikes! 8P )

    I can’t wait to make this pattern!!! I’ll be using a self striping yarn so I’m hoping that the fact you make it in sections won’t make it all wonky... but then again if it does come out wired looking, it’s only for me, so I can learn from my experience and tweak it next time. You have THE BEST tutorials. You don’t go too fast Where I can’t keep up and I don’t understand what’s going on, and yet you go fast enough while explaining every single step without it dragging on which may cause people to lose interest… It’s just perfect you and your tutorials are fantastic! Thank you!

    Beautiful! Genius! I really love that you always reloop the starting stiches right back on to the loom to connect two halves or make that beautiful edge or cuff on the hats and mittens. I really dislike having to match up pieces to connect them, I can never line them up right. I like that it looks like it took a lifetime to make but really is quite easy the way you explain it. This is definately on my to do list but because of you I need to get more yarn and that is a good thing :) I also love using the chunky yarn. It makes it go quicker, makes it fuller and I think its softer. Thanks again :) it was worth the wait and your time.

    The video is super clear and simple! Hopefully, I've watched it enough times to understand. I'm going to take a risk and loom the final '10peg-button-parts' into the longer 'tails', which (in theory) is going to give me a hooded scarf. Wish me luck! I'm going to report it back here once I'm done (or once I miserably fail, lol).

    Made this with # 7.... yes! I said # 7 yarn. They called it jumbo?!? Lol it knitted awesome!!!! Then I scaled it down like you suggested to 29 pegs, to make my toddler one only change was length I stopped at 22cm but kept everything else in your instruction the same. Used 6 bulky yarn instead so it wouldn't be so heavy like the #7 yarn I wish I could post a photo so you can see it

    Hi Tuteate -
    I followed this video with great interest...and I think I can do it now! My one concern: I'm an adult male (and we have slightly larger heads) so I need to know what adjustments I can make to enlarge this design a little more. GREAT video! Thanks!

      Bähb Hudson hi! Thank you :) The distance between peg #1 and the last peg you use (you maybe will need 2 or 3 pegs more than we do) will be the height of your hood (the distance from the back of your neck to the top of your head). Then you will work as many rows as you want, they will be the width of a half of your hood (the distance from the back of your head to your cheek), and after that you could work the narrowest part in the same way). Hope this helps!

      Tuteate If I use more pegs for the height should I also increase the number of rows I do? (27cm) would become however many cm I would like or should I just stick with the 27cm

    Hi Erilene Lamprecht! This size is for adults, so maybe it will be too big for a kid. You could try to make the same but just using 29 pegs, for example, and knit them for less rows...

    I loved the video and read all the comments, one question I didn't see below:
    Is it possible to make the neck cowl longer? So instead of just going from the chin to the shoulder, it could go from the chin to cleavage/top of the bust area? We have very cold/windy winters here in Minnesota and wearing dress clothes daily doesn't really keep us warm. Thanks for taking the time to create and answer these questions.
    Kasey

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  10 років тому

      Kasey McMurdo hi! If you want to make it longer, you just need to use more than 33 pegs at the beginning. We used 33 pegs and we got the height you can see on the pictures. I think you could follow the rest of directions in the same way.

    I love the cast off on this. Does it have a stretch to it once it's completed? I made a Cowl scarf on the extra large round loom and the cast off had no give to it which made it smaller at one end than the other. I didn't like how that at on my neck

    What a brilliant video! So straight forward, I'm desperate to make one of these, I'll have to wait til I can get a circular loom. For a child's cowl, do you think a smaller loom would be sufficient? If not, how many pegs do you suggest I use? Thank you xx

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  10 років тому

      Jennifer Barnes hi! Thank you :) It's difficult to know how many pegs you would need for a child's cowl... We suggest you to start casting on just a fewer number of pegs (27?), knit some rows and check the width of your work. This width will be the height of the hood (from the neck to the top of the head) so you will see if that is enough for your child... Then, when you know the number of pegs you need (the height) you will need to knit rows until you have the desired length (from the back of the head to the chin) for a half of the hood. Hope this helps!

    If I didn't want to connect the pieces with buttons and just joined them should I decrease the row size? Just think there will not be that overlap from the joining pieces but not sure how big of a difference it will make.

    Awesome work! Can't wait to try this myself! But quick question, I gotta large noggin and a loooot of hair, would any of the math really change (or would it look ridiculous) if I were to do like 36 pegs per half?

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  10 років тому

      Sophie Mbogo hi! Thank you! :) I think you could use the same number of pegs (they determine the length from the shoulders to the top of your head). However, if you want to, you can knit more rows with them. For example, here we knitted each half for 27 cm (this will be the distance from the back of the head to our chin, more or less), so you maybe could knit for 30cm here, if you prefer that. I am sure you will get a nice hood :)

    Hello I am looking to make one of these awesome hooded cowls for my three year old cousin for the colder weather, and her baby sister as well! I just wanted to ask how many pegs I should use rather than 33, and 13 for sizing. I would like it to be a bit big and comfy but not too large. Please help me out it would be very appreciated!! Thank you -grace

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  10 років тому +2

      grace simpson hello! :) Ok, let’s see if this helps:1) The number of pegs casted on at the beginning will determine the height of the hooded cowl (the distance from the neck to the top of our head). We recommend you to first measure the distance you need for each of your cousins and then try to find how many pegs you need to get a knitted work with this “width”. For example, imagine you need the height of you hood to be 20cm, then try casting on 24 pegs and knit a few rows. If you see that your knitted work width (from peg #1 to #24) is 20cm, then you already found the number of pegs you need.2) Then, knit rows until you have a length equal to the distance from the back of their head to their cheek.3) Once there, we used just 13 pegs for the “height” of the cowl part (the distance from our shoulders to our chin). Measure which size you need for your cousins and take a look at your work (you will see “columns of stitches” coming out of your pegs, just choose how many of them you need to have this second “height”)Take a look at this picture: @wp-content/uploads/2014/01/primera_mitad-cuello-capucha-telar-circular.jpgWe started knitting from the leftest part (from the bottom to the top) using 33 pegs, then we knitted a few rows, until we decided they were enough to cover from the back of the head to the cheek, and then we just used 13 pegs and worked reductions (to get the cowl part). Hope this helps!

    • @Tuteate
      @Tuteate  9 років тому

      +soko Almajidia hi! Thank you :) You can use thinner yarn. If your yarn is too thin, then you will see your knitting comes out too loose. If that is your case, then try using 2 strands of your yarn at the same time, as if you had a double-thick one.

    Hola que lindo cuello con esa capota. Estoy de acuerdo con Maria Eugenia, todo el tiempo aprendemos mucho. Felicitaciones y mil y mil gracias por dedicarnos éste tiempo tan valioso. Tengo un pequeño inconveniente tengo un telar que mide 25 cm y tiene 32 postes y otro de 64 y mide 34 o 35 cm, si lo hago en alguno de estos me quedara mal? Le escribo desde Colombia. Hola Nohora Esperanza! Muchísimas gracias por tus palabras :) En el tutorial utilizamos 33 postes de nuestro telar, así que quizás podrías utilizar tu telar de 64 para trabajar sólo con 33 de los postes. Si prefirieras trabajar con el de 32 seguramente tampoco se notaría la diferencia... Un abrazo!
