  • We have some storms blowing in and our trampoline is at risk of blowing away. We are going to anchor the trampoline and figure out how to keep the trampoline from blowing away in the storm.
    Follow along as we explore and learn to build a homestead in middle Tennessee. In 2016 we packed up our three kids and decided to leave suburban life in order to rediscover our love of outdoors, and learn the necessary skills to build a homestead from scratch. Learn with us as we begin to grow a garden, raise chickens, hunt and forage for food and live life to its fullest.

    I was a bit concerned until you gave the straps the tug test and uttered the magic words "That's not going anywhere". 😂 Realistically, unless you have hurricane force winds, it'll probably stay put.

      Apparently they held up well. The storms blew through last night and we still have a trampoline in the place that we left it.

    Thanks so much for sharing this!! I’ve had to learn many things on UA-cam since losing my husband to cancer 5 years ago. We’ve had 2 trampolines blow away during storms. The first, my husband fished out of our pond and was able to straighten it back out and set up lol. But the net was destroyed so I bought a new one with the net. I think my daughters, now 10 & 6, the two youngest of our 4…got to jump on it only a month before a storm picked it up and twisted it like a pretzel. I made the mistake of securing the bars on the ground not thinking about how they come apart🤦🏻‍♀️So you gave me the best idea so far on securing and something I don’t have to hunt for help or pay someone. Thank you again😁

      Thanks Amy for the encouraging words. I hope your girls will be able to find enjoyment even after the fiercest storms blow through. I’m sure that with a strong and determined example like yourself in their life they will be able to.

      @@HurricaneHomestead we weren’t as badly impacted as initially projected - lots of debris and trees everywhere but luckily external damage is at a minimum. As of yet. I went with 10 sandbags on trampoline since it seemed everyone had the same idea with the method you demonstrated. I’ll be more prepared for next year. Thank you for checking and responding ! Lot of help needed in SWFL

    To help while doing this, ive always used a foot and a half steel bar to run through the handle of the ground anchor. This makes twisting it into the ground VERY EASY. Best wishes and happy upcoming holidays to all

    I used some earth anchors I got for trapping, so far so good with only two of them and winds currently gusting into the 40mph range

    I would have had at least four straps put down & possibly if I knew it was going to be gale force winds I would take the netting down on the sides.

    • @HurricaneHomestead
      @HurricaneHomestead  2 дні тому

      The netting has been a problem. It bent one of the support poles holding the net up in one storm. But the trampoline didn’t budge an inch.

    Hey All. Going to use the same anchors, but had another idea for bad storms since I can't take any chance of mine blowing around the neighborhood. What if I undid some of the springs on 2 "sides" to let wind through. Then just fold over the unsecured flaps of the jumping surface and wrap and secure with a few bungee cords so they're not whipping in the wind? Logical? Possibly effective? Time consuming, but want to stack the odds when wicked storms blow through.

    How long are your spiral anchors?

  • @DR-pi5wp
    @DR-pi5wp Рік тому +1

    What is the length of the ratchet straps that you used?

    • @HurricaneHomestead
      @HurricaneHomestead  Рік тому

      They were pretty short. Only about 8ft, but the great thing about ratchet straps, it doesn’t matter how long they are you can always pull them tight before you ratchet them down. Then cut the excess off if you need to.

    • @HurricaneHomestead

    Do you remove the net when the winds get high? To prevent the poles from bending?

    We have a hurricane coming to FL. You think this will keep a trampoline down during a hurricane?

    • @HurricaneHomestead
      @HurricaneHomestead  Рік тому +1

      It’s held ours in 60mph winds without a problem, but I think I might reenforce it a bit more and maybe take off the trampoline fabric before things get nasty. Y’all stay safe.

    Is the hidden Easter egg a 17 or 19

  • @KarasCyborg
    @KarasCyborg Рік тому +1

    Probably would have been stronger if you anchored the corners rather than the middle of the side span.

    • @HurricaneHomestead
      @HurricaneHomestead  Рік тому +3

      I walked around that thing 3 times, but still couldn’t see any corners. 😂 but really, there is an attachment joint right where the legs are and if I had anchored it there it could possibly come loose. Anchoring it between the legs like that actually put more pressure on both supports keeping them firmly on the ground. It’s held up very well even in the 60 mph winds we had the other day. The wind bent the poles holding up the netting, but the trampoline didn’t move an inch.

    • @KarasCyborg
      @KarasCyborg Рік тому

      @@HurricaneHomestead LOL. Looking at it again, it is a circle, so wouldn't have the same corners as mine being an octagonal. I think where the T's are that support the leg uprights would be the stoutest metal to attach to. Anytime you have 40mph + winds, it should be strapped down. So if your's survived the 60mph, you are good to go. We have 90mph gusts out in the South West where I live, and so I'm looking to do this too real soon.
