Originally intended for San Marco in Venice, the two choirs had to "respond" each other. We know this phenomena today as: "Stereo effect". Simple as is, nobody did this in many many years; pity... but this Beatus Vir is indeed BEAUTIFUL! Thanks.
When I sang this piece in 1996, the chorus director was going to split the chorus into two groups, with one on stage and the other on the chips loft. But we could not fit the orchestra in the loft and conducting the second group with the chorus and the orchestra separated turned out to be a nightmare. At the end, we divided the group in two and performed entirely on stage. I often wonder how the piece would sound if part of us did perform from afar.
