João do Amaral Gurgel foi um dos mais brilhantes engenheiros mecânicos do Brasil, fundando a principal indústria de automóveis 100% brasileira, que carregava seu sobrenome, a Gurgel Motors. Com veículos pequenos feitos com fibra de vidro, a marca foi pioneira no ano de 1975, na criação de veículo com propulsão 100% elétrica, lançando o Itaipu E150, nomeado em homenagem à Usina Hidrelétrica ainda em construção.
