Greetings, thanks for making this video. You said, "rent a commercial kitchen if you get a purchase order." How would you make a sale without providing samples? Where would you make those samples? Let me know what you think. Thank you
This is so helpful thank you! I opened my cottage food business almost a year ago and have had many shops want to sell my product so I am finally looking at commercial kitchens so I can sell at more spots than farmers markets. I need to do my nutritional labels and bar codes so thanks for the links!
You can actually get a nutritional label exemption from the FDA as long as your sales remain under a certain amount, can’t remember what that dollar amt is though.
So you mentioned not going to a commercial kitchen when first getting started if you don’t have orders yet, but if you’re making your label for your food product you will need to list where the food is manufactured. What address should you put? Because you stated that you need your product put together first before getting into the kitchen. Should I choose the kitchen address that I have in mind that I’m totally sure I’ll be using and add it to my label as the manufacturing address so that I at least have the label and packaging part out of the way?
Annie’s boxed macaroni and cheese is a; a revelation in the world of boxed macaroni and cheese. 35 boxes in the cupboard now. Costco trip. Awesome video too brother, thank you!!
Also I have my home address under the LLC should that I change it to the commercial kitchen address since my home address isn’t where I will be manufacturing my food product?
Hey there Mr. OK I’m taking in all of your information. But what if I have my own designer where can I find packaging. The link that you have for packaging they do the whole shebang but I have my own design and graphics person.
In my state , the food product i would like to produce does not fall into the "cottage law" category. So, is it wise to rent a commercial kitchen for a day, make product, and then pitch it to potential buyers?
What if you want to make the product in a commercial kitchen and then sell it online? Technically you wouldnt have a purchase order from a retailer but you would have to be in a licensed kitchen to sell it across state lines. What is your reccommendation?
What about canned or bottled drinks? It seems like the only options are commercial kitchens, which are pretty expensive, often with monthly minimums, and have a ton of stuff you're paying for that you'll never need for just bottling drinks, and co-packers, which have insane MOQ's. Is there something like a rentable bottling facility? Maybe ask some local microbrews that have small bottling facilities in house?

many food products within the cottage food laws can be started at home but the use of a commercial kitchen CAN be beneficial once you have a call for your product
@Marketing Food Online I wanted to start making beef patties though. From what I understood I can't sell meat products out of my home in California. How would I be able to entice people to buy a product that I could not legally make at home?
This is good information, but I am totally clueless. Where do I buy the food products to make a snack mix for a start? Don't I have to produce those foods on my own?
I am thinking about a new type of restaurants : eating-spots, in eating-spots, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate, this is opposed to current restaurants, thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are more powerful than restaurants, along with that, there is an app, people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days, menu is influenced by the live input of the people via an app

Thanks for the awesome info! So if I wanted to ship homemade sauce out of state, do I need a commercial kitchen, or am I okay to ship from home? (Northern Virginia) Would I need a Food Handlers permit or other permits licenses for each state I ship to? Appreciate the help
Oh yes yes yes. It’s not legal to do online sales outside one’s own state unless you have the correct permits and licenses from your city, county, state and FDA stuff. Sauce is also its own animal and he did a video on Sauce I saw but get business production food insurance. Also likely need a retail license possible from your state etc.

So if I made freeze dried candy in a rented Commercial kitchen and made three months of candy in advance while using said kitchen I could legally sell over state lines as well as having my city business, state tax ID and business insurance. It’s illegal to sell online over state lines but I understand if it’s done done and packaged in a Commercial kitchen it is legal. If any of this is incorrect please tell I would enjoy a consult with you. Please give me a yell. Thank you nice video. Beehive State 😊
Oh by the way I love you so much I could just kiss you! Smacked in the mouth LOL with a mask on of course 😜🤩 I was literally terrified when I decided I wanted to have my own business but every video you make it that much easier.

where does the co-packers come in if I use the commercial kitchen.
